Albino u know war the problem is
im done with Sony entertainment
I own a ps5 fat model and my son has a slim and we always lay them down never have had an issue .all you have to do is take care of them and keep them in an area where they are properly ventilated and they work fine..we have each gamed on them for hours on hours daily and never had an issue..you pay a good amount of money for these machines use common sense and take care of them..its not rocket science
Great info again, thanks. There is one thing I don't understand about the PS5 vertical stand, it seems to me that it is blocking the vent on the bottom. I am assuming that is a vent at the bottom? So wouldn't the stand possibly cause overheating too, or obstruct airflow?
Exactly my thoughts as why I lay it down
No don't worry, it was debunked. Warning was based on one erroneous post or something, I forget.
@@RebornThroughHate I don't know what was ever said about it, my concern is based on my own observation. Thanks for your reply and good to know that there is nothing to worry about but why? What are the vents at the bottom of the PS5 consoles for? They must be there for a reason but what is the reason, if they are not vents? If they are vents, why would they make a stand that covers them? Many questions, that I am sure there are answers to, I just like to find those answers :)
The bottom holes don't contribute much to overall airflow. No risk with them being blocked or not.
@@GearsAndTech Thanks, so I am guessing they are just surplus vents, makes sense because it wouldn't make sense to for PS to sell a stand covering the holes, otherwise.
Never had a Problem with overheating with my fat Ps5 since 3 years in vertical position. Now i have the Pro and also absolutely no issues.
Good to hear
Well your lucky cos my ps5 fat is only 2 years old and I've had it I've the vertical position and I'vegas if switched on for 12 hours aday either watching UA-cam or playing games and I've just been playing dying light 2 that's my most recent game and have put 185 hours into and now I got to the very end of the game dun all side missions and main and pissed about alot on it and now it's killed my ps5 Well it over heats within 5 mins of starting the game and fan makes a loud noise and tv says to turn it off as it's overheated so I turn it straight off but it's only that game and I'm right at the very end and want to finish it it's my favourite game I was play it again over and over if I cud but now I've put the last of us part 2 on and that plays fine the fan noise is very low unlike wen I put dying light 2 on so why's that anyway I've just dun what this guy says and I've turned it upside down for abit then I'll have to have it horizontally if I can find somewere in my room I can do that which I doubt I will be able to so it will probably have to stay vertical on the little shelf it's on
Just bought a slim version and 1 minute into the astro bot playground it crashed because of overheating. Putting it vertical in the other direction or horizontal indeed kept it from crashing. Amazing that they keep selling those consoles, being aware of the flaw..... 😕
Wow, thanks for sharing. If possible I would send it back being so new. It'll get worse
@@GearsAndTech Thanks for the advice. I sent it straight back to the store this morning. My new one arrives tomorrow. Fingers crossed that it will not show the same symptoms. Regardless I'll position the new one horizontal always.😅
I own ps5 pro. It disbalansa on my tv stand in horizontal position. No overheating, silent as f@€k. I cant tell if fans are on. No problem here
Good to hear
You need to switch it on, dude!
For me also. I love the pro. It really is an upgrade
@@mikerochburns4104 Haha this made my day! :D
I agree with that logic. Sony's developers made a change in heat sink design because they believed the previous design had a flaw.
Exactly
I have the PS5 slim since dec 2023, I've been getting the overheating screen circa September 2024 while playing warzone and then it shuts down. Sometimes i get the overheating message while playing Fortnite or GTAV.
I found in reddit that there's more people havung the same issue and notice taht the cause was playing ps5 versions of games.
I changed to ps4 versions and no i haven't had any overheating issues, so i think it night be a software problem.
so the safe solution for the old models (if you do not want to open your system and add the liquid metal) is to have your system positioned horizontally when playing. I hope I understood that one correctly.
Yes
I find the way the PS5 PRO handles ventilation, well... suspicious at best. It draws air in through the top of the console and expels it out the back with fins directing it downward, completely contradicting the laws of thermodynamics, where cold air sinks and hot air rises. I bought my Pro and mounted it on a wall bracket so that it faces downward, drawing air from the side and the 'bottom' while expelling the hot air upward. I ran some tests beforehand, and this setup improves the temperature by approximately 5 degrees.
Now, my concern lies with the liquid metal used as a conductor in the APU-it really worries me that it might 'leak.' So far, I haven’t had any issues. I did the same with my PS5 and used it for 4 years without ever getting a single overheating warning, even though I live in a tropical climate.
It won't leak. Don't worry
But I think it pulls air from the front and pushes it out the back.
These things have great airflow
My PS5 Pro blows out hot air? Only had it a few weeks? Is this a problem?
It's normal
I removed all the liquid metal from my ps5! I replaced it with thermal paste right after I bought it in 2021. I havent had any heating issues. You dont have to use liquid metal people! 😁😃😀
Yeah, it runs a little hotter, but not much
@GearsAndTech Right! It is only hotter by a few degrees. No risk of liquid metal spilling and killing the motherboard. I can accept a few degrees hotter!😁😁
people have tested it and shown average higher temperatures with thermal paste. you're quite literally making your ps5 throttle.
@@hollyc5417 I have had it since 2021. I haven't noticed any problems. Xbox series X uses thermal paste also. The SOC in it is similar to the PS5. You don't have to use liquid metal. Use what you want, I am just trying to show that other options are available.
Why for a ps5 lmao.
Mine has never overheated, and I've played for 12 hours straight on graphic demanding games.
Lucky guy
I see that you're running an exhaust fan on your PS5. Is there a perticular one you would recommend to use?
This is the one I'm using. It fits perfect even though it's made for the slim
ua-cam.com/video/pOADfJwLb6A/v-deo.html
Fake news. I've had my launch fat vertical for close to 4 years and thousands of hours of gameplay. Still runs perfectly quiet.
That's lucky
Yea mine is not loud like people was saying
Mine ja loud and i Just got it
Also have OG fat one from day one and it stands vertically and never had an issue
“My car hasn’t broke down yet from common model issues, so that means it never will” mindset..
For my launch ps5, I got lucky with no overheating from that issue. Other reason for over-heating is the heatsink and PSU can get clogged with dust!! I would try to spray those area's out before ripping your ps5 apart
Yes, dust isn't the systems friend
I used my fat ps5 vertically for hundreds of hours without EVER hearing a fan or feeling heat or anything.
I now have a pro with a vertical stand. I’ve been playing for dozens of hours, and have never ONCE heard a fan, or felt heat, or anything. Ever.
It’s incredible that you say “all models” of the fat are affected. I mean for crap sake bro, HUNDREDS of hours vertically on a fat, without ANY ANY ANY ANY ANY heat issues EVERRRRRR.
The thing feels lukewarm ALWAYS. The fan works, but I mean it NEVER needs to increase itself.
Guess some people just desperately need content though, huh.
I’ll be selling my fat, which has always been vertical for years, as in “excellent” condition. And it IS. NOBODY is going to have a problem with the old boy. Nobody will.
I just bought a ps5 pro, during the first 2 hours of playing astrobot, a game that comes standard with any ps5, the console suddebly made a noise and gave a green screen on my tv and then crashed...
That's weird. Did it work after
LOL! I have 3 versions of the PS5 and none over heat. 😂
Me too.
All mine lay down
so if i own a ps5 fat and a slim (a new one) whats the fix for this to keep it horizontally right ? , and is there anything for xbox series X
I appreciate your video and content, and I agree that running it horizontally is your best bet, but to say that the grooves on the Pro is proof of an overheating problem is a stretch. Hardware manufacturers are always looking for ways to improve efficiency, so the design change COULD be a reaction to the overheating issue, OR it’s simply a newer method they’re testing out, or have found to be superior. Also the slim model is a good counter point because they shrunk down the heat sink and still run the console at lower temps. Why would they do that if they knew there was an overheating problem? Wouldn’t they have kept it the same size.
Also wonder how many people are leaving their consoles vertical and in sleep mode? I saw Sony recommended to put it in sleep mode when not in use. I wonder if that keeps the liquid metal warm enough to prevent dry spots.
I agree with what you're saying, but the grooves serve one of 2 purposes
1 to hold the liquid metal in place
2 to add surface area to help remove heat
I tend to think it's not because of point 2.the reason I think so is because they shrunk the cooling fins on each successive unit. If heat was a concern why would they shrink them only to increase the block surface area?
This makes me think it's to keep that pesky liquid metal in place
Just to be safe I have my PS5 diagonal 🙂
Sounds like a great idea. Best of both worlds
seriously dont get the point of people commenting "I've never had this problem" thanks for the video though as assurion takes forever for something that doesnt seem like it would take that long to fix
Me too
Keep them clean and in an open space. SURPRISE! They won’t over heat. Two launch day PS5’s disc models and one PS5 Pro launch day with disc drive. They are perfectly fine.
The fix is to have the ps5 console in horizontal and NOT Vertical orientation. For people who have their system in vertical orientation you will have a super hot spot on APU chip on top of the chip after a few months and the life span of the chip will drastically reduce. Keep it in vertical stand and exp a lot of technical issues just educate yourself on how the cooling system for a console is made. For xbox series x this won’t be an issue as it uses vapour chamber and no liquid metal. Also room or ambient temp where u have your console located and amount of air flow all around the console all play a role in keeping the system from overheating🎉
It's amazing how many people jump on here and say this is fake news. They have no idea.
Thanks for confirming
@@GearsAndTechSony will likely have over 70 million PS5s sold after the holidays. All with the same design. The vast vast majority sitting vertically as the console was designed to do. Can what you’re saying happen? Probably in certain situations, but if this was the massive problem you’re making it out to be, then places like Reddit would be on fire with it. We just had the PS year-end summary, and people on Reddit were posting 3-5k hours of gaming in the year. I don’t think that type of usage would be possible for years on end with massive dry spots on the APU.
had my ps5 since 2020 in the vertical and never had issues personally. i did had lm on a delidded cpu and it was always pooling no matter what i did, pita...not worth the temp difference vs good paste really. so i switched to graphene thermal pads on both gpu and cpu...something i'd be tempted to throw on the ps5, if it ever overheats.
Yes
I have my digital launch ps5, and I've never had it overheat, but I'm thinking of doing the flip upside-down and then just using it horizontally from here on.
Worth a try
I’m glad I went straight to PS5 Pro now. 😂
Yes, suddenly the pro is worth the upgrade!
Depends if you guys play in well air conned rooms or you guys like playing the console in a room like saharah like desert temps
Yes. Ambient temps matter for system temp
My launch edition PS five would get hot and go blank screen on and off from day one just bought the pro on day one it did the same thing I added USB cabinet fans into the entertainment center, but it still happens randomly. I haven’t even installed the Samsung 990 4 TB SSD with heat sync yet. My consoles are always flat not vertical. But are in tight space. But I tried vertical on top of cabinet and it still went black screen
Pop the back out of the cabinet to let airflow behind
I had the overheating until I put it horizontal.
Thanks for sharing.
It's crazy how many people say this is bs
Thanx
No problem
If you own one of the first ps5 that came out hold on to it because they have the most copper heatsink in them...the newer ones Sony removed alot of the copper from the systems thats why they are over heating.
Gonna put my Pro horizontal now. Didnt know anything about this.
Happy to help
My pros fan literally goes crazy With in seconds and it
Shuts down immediately..
When in verticle or all the time?
My pro was still overheating vertically so I got it replaced now works perfectly
Good to hear
Is there cooling fan for ps5 pro, like what you have in video
Yes. The one for the slim fits on pro.
@GearsAndTech , I thought so but thanks for confirming, does it make much difference in heat?
If the ps5 slim is affected by the liquid metal thing, then why does sony literally sell a stand for it then?
@@SpidermanDude07 this guy is and idiot
Sony sold faulty fat ps3s they knew had issues and never addressed it why do u think this will be different? Also I had it happen on my day one ps5 it's a company don't trust everything they say
Sony assumes no liability if you use a stand and wreck it. Why do you think it's a paid extra and not pack in anymore?
@@GearsAndTech I went to Sony support and they said the console is designed to either be put vertically or horizontally.
It's defective if the liquid metal shorts your console. Yes, they are made by machines, but humans also. There is not an issue with it being vertical as it has better airflow. It has worse airflow laying on it's side. The liquid metal can be replaced, and yes it can leak, but that's REALLY rare. It's basically the odds of an airplane crashing or a roller-coaster actually malfunctioning.
I have had this issue happen on my day one ps5 fat cfi1000 half of the apu wasn't covered in liquid metal and i had to sell it as faulty and buy another
That sucks
Cap why would you sell it faulty if you could return it
@@IlLAD3LPH1A215 because it's fairy tales.
@@apTimON I know I just want to know why these people pathologically lie for no reason. It’s so weird
If Sony knew that it was overheating all the time, why didn't they first do it right? The first time instead of just letting you go out and over heating because it's all about money. That's all it is that's sad
They wouldn't have known it would be an issue.
@GearsAndTech Well I was just asking a question about and I thought maybe they knew something that we didn't know
We have 5 PS5 in our household 3 OG one Slim and a Pro never had a problem with any of them standing up.
Glad to hear
I never had any problems with my PS5 over heating i keep it laying down it stays nice and cool when I have it vertical it gets hot as hell
Already debunked. People have been using p5s for years. You should delete this video.
Hasn't been debunked.
@@GearsAndTech It has. I saw it mentioned in several videos a while ago. The whole thing was apparently based on a post from somebody that was later shown to be false. I think you're months late with this anyway. If it was real, there'd have been plenty of lawsuits anyway.
@@GearsAndTechyes it has. Crap video.
@@RebornThroughHatedude out here hustling for UA-cam money 😂
Yes, years 2-4 years how do you know ps5 can't be like PS4 Fat later (Sony airlines)
I own an original digital ps5, a god of war bundle ps5, and a ps5 pro I haven’t had any of them overheat. I think it comes down to how well you take care of your systems.
if they arent standing up it makes the biggest difference
Not sure why this is on my list but the PS5 FAT that I bought when it initially released still works n this day and never overheated even once… 😂
That's good to hear. Ours is going strong too.
I also use a really good aftermarket horizontal stand that works great and properly sits the ps5 horizontal so air flows all around it..there cheaper then the sony vertical stands and work 10 times better.
My slim over heated on silent hill 2 i upgraded to pro and sold my slim
Good idea
I pay to eliminate ALL ADS!.
Cool
Why i like all that copper in the og fat
I'm sure in 2 years they will do that to the ps6 no need to buy a ps5 pro. Tho I have the fat and pro.
I agree
Sounds like a straight rip-off like nobody has any sense that the console overheats since the PS3 and they still haven't fixed the problem

It's not a myth it's gravity if you leave your ps5 vertical over time GRAVITY will pull the liquid metal to the bottom of the APU creating a dry spot at the top of the APU thus it over heats the easiest fix just leave it horizontal problem solved

Any small fan pointed towards the bottom to just move the hot air away works totally. Once in a blue moon it will just shut off out of nowhere
I own 4 new PS5 Slim's w/Disc Drives, but always use it in a horizontal position ...however I decided not to purchase a PS5 Pro for the said possiblity of a over-heating problem. Instead, my money is going to be spent on the upcoming PS6 Console. 👍
I think you missed one crucial point, the PS5 Pro has the grooves in the heatsink to prevent the overheating. All your Slims are in potential danger

The last true console imo needed no hard drive or ssd, or had no internal storage option. Probably the Wii. The future of consoles already exists. They are streaming apps such as geforce now, downloadable on some smart tv, and you just connect a wireless gamepad. The only thing that isn't present yet is probably a launcher app such as steam, gog or epic for obtaining games directly on that tv
That is the future yes
@@GearsAndTech Streaming companies still have to renew accessibility to stream anything, no different to netflix. Unless they become both publisher and streamer. Perhaps even developer. I can't see consoles staying around unless there is a want for more control over what you purchase and a new physical disc or cartridge technology emerges.
