    Thank you I would like to see a couple of weatherstripping that are recommended to use for a C-4. I have a 96.

    Well its not that complicated of a job. Put adhesive on and put the weatherstrip on top :). Secondly I can't hold the camera in one hand and install weatherstrip with another hand, and there is nowhere else to put the tripod, and I don't have a video crew to follow me around. Welcome to amateur video my good man! I will try for a better angle in future videos.

    The proper way to put weather stripping on is not to apply a bead, but to apply a thin layer to both the vehicle and weather stripping, and allow it to get tacky before mating the two surfaces.

    What kind of weatherstrips did you use? Aftermarket or stock? I used aftermarket and have a problem closing the driver's door and can hear the wind whistling at speeds higher than 40 mph. I was trying to adjust the window but no change.

      For the doors I had the same problem as you, I used Metro Moulded brand. For the roof I used CRC...Corvette Rubber Company...its great stuff. I would only use CRC for everything if I could go back in time.

    Did you purchase the weatherstrip from CRC or through another vender, also how did your door windows seal at the back with them up and the targa in place. I got mine from a vender and CRC is molded in the rubber, everything fits real good except the back of the door glass there wit the windows up and the targa in place or not in place there is a 1/4 inch gap. I adjusted the windows in as much as they would go.

      I bought it from a vendor. I think the CRC stripping is the only stripping that did NOT have a gap for me.

    Where did you order your stripping

    my 2002 Grand Marquis leaks when there is a heavy rain. I'm thinking it's the weather stripping. Is this something easy that I can do myself

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  7 років тому

      If it's the sunroof it might be a little complicated because you may have to take the roof panel off, but the doors should be pretty easy as you most likely won't have to remove any parts other than the weatherstripping. A tool like this: amzn.to/2oNaRC8 , the weatherstripping, and some adhesive amzn.to/2oNlTYp should be all you need

    I have a question for you since you seem to know how to do a lot of things.
    Recently I purchased a 2013 Infiniti G37 convertible from Carmax. I took it for a bath one week after buying it and the weatherstripping on the passenger door leaked. I took it back to Carmax since it was still in the 30 day warranty. The first response from them was, they couldn't duplicate the leak but would give me a 6 month warranty on great! They give me the keys and I leave. Except it's not my car. It's a 4 door g37 coupe. Same color but total different car. I go back in to tell them it's not my car. The guy proceeds to swear up and down that he tested my car for leak but guy just grabbed wrong car...ok. Then they can't find my car keys. 3 days it sat on the lot (supposedly), then they called to say the found the keys and "it finally duplicated the leak". Fast forward 3 weeks. The part they ordered came in but it's the wrong part so now they are going to order the part directly from Infiniti. Fast

      Forward another week and now they are saying the piece doesn't match and they have to have the body shop paint it. What part could possibly need to be painted if you are replacing out weatherstripping? They won't let me see the car and I can't help but feel they are buying time because they may have given my car to the unhappy customer that had the coupe. Hoping you can ease my mind and may be able to tell me a part on a seal that might need painting.

      +NaomiShops Wow that's amazing. I can't imagine too many things that have to do with weatherstripping that would need to be painted. Even if something did need to be painted, it would be small and shouldn't take more than an hour to paint, of course I don't know how long it would take them to acquire the actual paint. It's very weird that they gave you the wrong car. With the way registration, titling, and insurance works; I don't think it would be legal for them to give you a random car and give your car to someone else after you bought it. I'm not a sue-happy type of person but if they've had your car for four weeks just for weatherstripping, and won't let you see it, I'd call a lawyer.

      a DIY Car Guy well it seems they did give my car to someone else. After I took it to the B.A.R. They looked it over and it turns out something happened to the front bumper. They had it re-painted. After a lot of back and forth Carmax said they would refund me back the money for the car. I didn't really want to do that, but I also didn't want to have a car that was in an accident. The BAR went out and met with them since they didn't follow state law on the whole thing. They were able to review film of the parking lot and one of the employees parked the car in the wrong place which was the confusion with giving me the wrong car. Turns out the same guy went to bring it up to the right lot but ran over one of the parking stop blocks and tore of the front of my bumper. Which also caused the bumper to scratch my paint. Long story short I was able to work out something and they gave me an extended warranty on my car and $5,000 cash back on my car. They also got a hefty fine from the bureau. I'm not one to sue, but I did wanted them investigated to protect future buyers. I'm happy with the end outcome 😁

    You are not using the adhesive as recommended by 3M?

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  8 років тому

      You mean as per the directions on the package?

    • @YZFoFittie
      @YZFoFittie 8 років тому

      Correct. The old instructions were to thin coat the car and the part and let dry. Then reapply thin coat to one part and press together. Now they just say thin coat each part, let get tacky, then stick together.

      The new instructions were on the tube I had, but nope I didn't really follow them.

    good videos. these damn weatherstripping peices are a dumb b*tch to deal with (while rotted). I just drove 9 hours straight in my 89 and all the stripping is bad. Good thing I had my in ear headphones. lol. what was your total cost?

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  8 років тому

      +joefabuloso r Thanks! Yea the old stripping is a mess. That sounds like a fun trip...the most I ever did was 4 hours with no AC on the hottest day of summer...I fixed the AC before I drove home lol. I don't remember the cost but it was probably in the mid 200's. The hatch seal came with the car so that was a big savings. I didn't replace all the seals either so to do everything would cost a bit more. I think I skipped the seal over the windshield, the front wheel well seals, and possibly the lower door seals if there is such a thing; I'm just recalling from memory here lol.

      +a DIY Car Guy MY blower motor is out so I drove with no shirt for the first half of the trip. Clear across Texas. Luckily it was great weather. no window tint I might add. The car had been rotting in my Dad's backyard in Odessa for 3 yrs. changed the Fuel sender and pump....pulled an old battery out of a truck....changed serp.belt and filled her up... Bam. lol. poor car got a rude awakening. This car is gonna cost about 5k to get where I want it. Only reason I'm investing so much is cause my Dad gave it to me and asked me never to sell. Money pit or not...it'll be fun and memorable. cheers
