Cleaner Dharamshala: Meet the Waste Warriors

Waste Warriors was founded by Jodie Underhill, a British traveler who fell in love with India in 2008. She was dismayed by the country's garbage problem and started a voluntary group called ‘Mountain Cleaners’ to clean up Triund, a remote mountain camp. In 2012, Jodie established Waste Warriors as a non-profit in Dehradun with the goal of cleaning up the entire country. Early leaders Tashi Pareek and Minakshi Pandey helped expand Waste Warriors' work to Dharamshala and Dehradun. Avinash joined as a volunteer in 2012, later becoming CEO in 2018. He played a key role in navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Waste Warriors now includes over 150 dedicated individuals working to tackle India's waste management crisis.
