  • Hi! Thanks for a visit to the channel!
    In this video, I'm building and painting the Tamiya 1/350 HMS Prince of Wales of the Royal Navy in the Singapore Force Z Camouflage.
    The kit is considerably old, with the tooling from 1986, but the fit is exceptionally good, still. The detail, however, is a little crude at times.
    I wanted to adress the hull more than in usual videos, where i only painted them Hull Red and left it that way. Here, i did many layers of paint and then weathered it to fit some reference pictures i found on the net, but it will be a longer process to refine the results to get a realistic look, though.
    The music was taken from:

    Tamiya old ships are worthed to build. New kits from trumpeter and dragon are great but they have a lot of pe parts to build. If you like pe OK. Otherwise it's a hard job to build new kits. Look forward to your another ship build. I have just bought bismark and same to you, the wooden deck. Hope I will finish it like you, happy modelling.

    You Sir are a genius.!.I’m new to boat building and just want to build a few ships that I’ve always had my eye on.Prince of Wales is one of these ships.I normally build 1/48 WW2 and want to give ships a go.Now seeing your excellent build I’m ordering right after.!Thank you and please stay safe.!👍🌎🌍🌏❤️

    My favorite part about Tamiya is that they give a one piece hull, it just makes everything so much easier

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 роки тому

      This is really good - two piece hulls don't end up as well as those readily molded hulls and you have to sand quite long to remove all the seam lines - or leave them on the bottom where noone will ever see them!

    I have just got this kit come through the post today. Looking forward to build her. I am waiting for a wooden deck set to come. Eduard do 3 separate Photo Etch sets for this model. A general Prince of Wales set. A Lifeboat set and a Cranes & Railings set. I have just got the Cranes & Railings set, and that set me back about £25. Not cheap, but I think it will make the model look so much better. Especially the cranes. I think I am going to chicken out though, and just do the Battle of Denmark Straights easy camo scheme lol.

      Then you have quite some work before you! Im sure it will be great! The grey camouflage is beautiful as well because it looks so majestic.
      All those parts from grid structure like cranes of radar things are really great to have from PE, much better than those solid plastic blocks

    On the Model Warships forum there is a 38-page, 9 year long thread on what exact colors, and what were the exact placement of those colors on PoW when she was sunk. In 9 years they have not managed to come to a definitive solution yet. This one looks great, nicely weathered and well built with a very good camo scheme and hull tones. I have a 1/700 PoW (from Flyhawk) in my collection, but done in the (boring) Denmark Strait paint scheme.Have been too chicken to try this one. Well done!

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the recommendation! i could have used that instead of the camo on the box, where the colours were already a little faded! In 1/700 it would be even harder to do a complicated camo, i guess, so there is no shame in making a grey ship, with light grey ship hulls, you can have great weathering and make it even more interesting, some camouflages hide most of the weathering, sadly

    Morning .
    Just watched this build video and as usaual another fine job.
    Nor being contentious I, m the opposite to when it comes to paint schemes.
    I;m a bit romantic when it comes to the sea and the Royal Navy.
    I like to see a ship in dress uniform (clean) I like to see the ship at its finest ,I like to see the lines,detail and uniformity if that makes sense?
    However maybe one day I might paint a ship in its battle
    fatigues.
    Question do you know if the capital builds had prefix numbers like the smaller escorts f(rigates, destroyers and corvettes)
    I could Google it but I do.like interaction with others lol.
    Regards
    Anthony

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Anthony! Ships definitely look majestic and awesome in a clean, light grey coat, they have such a powerful expression that way, i think, some camouflages just take that away. I also like clean ships, but sometimes, weathering a ship is also fun!
      I think the British capital ships have prefix numbers, but mostly for identification and not so much like the American ships that are much more often identified by their number and name, BB-62 New Jersey eg. For example, the modern British aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth has the pennant number R08, but it is rarely mentioned. i guess it is for clearly identifying her as the aircraft carrier and not as the older battleships or other ships of that name

      Do you have an airbrush? it makes painting a lot easier compared to brush painting, but it takes time to get into, i have clogged my airbrush so many times when i started. It's all practice. You could also use spray cans for an even and homogenous base layer and then use brushes for camouflage painting, that would also be a good way. The hardest part with only brush painting is getting a good base layer on the model that does not fill or hide any details but gives the following colours a good adhesion
