Got my dads old Yamaha SR250 and I'm planning to get a motorcycle license this year. Just for fun I tried to start it, but it just hums and no running.

Hopefully you can get it started. If it hasn't run for a while it is best to change the fuel, sparkplugs, air filter,and the engine oil.

Here's a short story maybe you can help diagnose but I was riding to school and didn't have time to go to the gas station so my bike was near E on the gas gauge. After class was over, I went to the gas station and filled it to the full line. About 5 minutes later my bike shut off while riding on the road. I still had power. It cranks but won't start the engine. I went home and spent about a month trying to figure out the problem. It's not fuel related because I tested the fuel pressure at 43 psi and 10 seconds 400-500 mL of fuel comes out. In the manual 220 mL was the minimum. I change the fuel pump filter and gas is cleaned. I hooked up an external pump and that didn't solve the no start problem. I changed the fuel injectors filter (basket) and tested for spray. I changed the spark plugs and injectors. I see the spark plug has a spark when firing. That means the stator and crankshaft sensor is working? I heard about the low oil sensor which prevents engine starting so I changed the oil and oil filter. I have a battery charger I used to hook up so it's not battery related. Could it be a bad ECU? That cost about $500 for a used one and I don't got the money for that. Also I'm looking at camshaft sensor next and will use a multimeter to test that. I can crank the bike but it keeps cranking over and over again. The bike won't start but it sounds like it wants too.

If you have fuel and spark it should fire up. Check the air filter that it's clean and clear.
I have seen water in fuel before so maybe drain the tank and refill.
It's not a blocked fuel filter as you say the volume is correct.
Something could be shorting out to ground but still doesn't explain why you have spark, fuel, and air but its not starting. I'm leaning towards bad fuel.
The next best bet is take it to a motorcycle mechanic. They can plug in and detect any fault codes.

Hey man awesome vid my dad has a cfmoto 650nk a chinese bike i think, does not start but it turns on and its making a clicking noise which i would assume that its the spark plug working properly please help me my dad is out of town and i haven't informed him of the issue I just tried to start it as I had to go to my workplace.

Charge or replace the battery the clicking sound is usually the starter relay coming in and out due to low battery voltage.

Hey, have a bike that sat out for quite a while in florida while i was away, got towed, etc. I got it back and it's cranking but won't start, i drained gas and put oil in and replaced battery. The spark plug was changed before i left but that was years ago. I'm going to just get a new one in case, but any other ideas?

You said you put oil in it. I would drain the engine oil completely and refill just in case there is water in the engine oil.
Charge the battery fully even though it's new.
Check air filter that it's not blocked with bugs etc

How long will it run for after starting? It does sound like a fuel or spark issue. A blocked air filter will also cause that issue.

Hi I have an MT-125 2015, got a new battery (as old one was dying) and everything is working (bike turns on, indicators, headlight and back light work) however the display/dashboard is not working, just blank like it’s got no power, it was working with the old battery before we changed it however now it doesn’t work with the new or old one, any ideas please? Check the fuses for the display and you can always disconnect the ribbon cable for the display at the back to see if it is just a bad connection.
Make sure the battery is connected in the correct polarity.
Does the motorcycle start up?

Hi thankyou for your reply, yes the bike starts up, everything works apart from the dash, tested all the fuses and they’re working, not sure if it’s just the dash what has broken and it’s a coincidence it happened when the battery was changed thankyou

Possibly try charging the motorcycle battery full and see if there is still a problem with starting.

Charge the battery and see if that helps. See if it will push start in second gear.

I have a question. My bike isn't starting. When I turn the key, everything goes on, lights work. When I try to start the bike, the bike seems to reset and all the meters/check engine stuff does the same when I turn the key. Any ideas?

Yes it's the battery causing the bike to reset electrically.

These stock motorcycle batteries only tend to only last around 3 years.
After that it's a lucky dip when they begin to fail.

I turn the key over I hear the fuel pump priming and lights turn on , I took my bike apart and set my battery aside for 2 days on a shelf (wood) what could be the problem no ground?

Well ground is good as lights work. How far did you take the bike apart?
I would charge the battery and try to start the motorcycle again.
Check the usual suspects like not in gear, stop button not active, starter motor wired up. Fuses not blown

Flat battery charge or replace it. Could also be a faulty starter motor.

Bad fuel, clogged/dirty air filter, bad spark plugs, cracked head gasket, electrical short circuit.
Could also be a bad battery so replace that if it's over 3 years ild

I have that Grom clone. It was riding fine though I had stalled it a couple times, but the day after it wouldn't start and I charged the battery as well. I do not know if they have safety switches or anything.

Possible safety switch in the side stand. On off/key switch could be faulty.
If battery is over 3 years old replace it. Check spark plug, fuel and air filter

@@rvnsuki take the spark plug out and check if it is dirty or damaged.
An old trick is to leave the plug out and plug it into the electrical plug and let it touch a metal part of the engine. Turn the engine over and look/listen for a spark. Be careful

I just fixed a mates motorcycle that had water in the fuel tank due to all the rain. Had to drain it all then motorcycle ran fine again. Bad fuel tank seal

I need help
hey so I have a 2014 ninja 300 abs and it won’t start. Some backstory: the bike ran a little shaky but fine then i parked it and let it run for a little bit to see if there was a problem. The bike then died down and shut off but now wont start anymore.
I turn the key to on and lights and everything works.
I go to start the bike and it cranks and cranks and cranks but doesnt turn over and actually run.
I replaced the spark plugs and charged the battery but still nothing.
The starter relay was good after i tested it.
PS: the bike has been sitting for about 2 weeks outside in the cold and rain so idk if that has caused any more problems.
Any ideas on whats wrong with it?

I once had a old bike that got water into the fuel tank after it rained making it hard to start.
Drain the tank and try again, also check if you have spark.

That's very odd. Something must have come loose.
Check battery, stop switch, side stand switch, clutch leaver switch and maybe try to push start it.
Charge or replace the battery if over 3 years old.

Mine won't start today, this is the 2nd time in a short time.
When I jump started the bike first time, it started up immediately after that, now a week or 2 later it happened again.
Oil indicator lights up when I turn the key but when I wanna check the oil level of my mt07 I don't see anything, so either it's too full or empty?
This is infuriating, I barely ride in the rain, haven't even done wheelies yet and already have to deal with this stuff.

Probably 2x problems here. Best to identify the oil issue first.
Too much oil is bad just as too little oil. Lean the bike on the side and look at the oil window if it changes.

How old is the battery?
If older than 3 years then swap it out.
