I'd argue double dash was the most innovative entry of the entire series and still stands as the most unique thanks to the dual character mechanic and special items.

Dashie! You can unlock karts, characters & courses the more you win the first place trophy! Once you get all characters, try different combinations to see which pair (& their special items) work best for you. Also, it’s suggested that you pick the kart that goes with either of the two characters you select. There’s no clear proof but it’s recommended. Lighter karts tend to have a quick start but eventually slow too speed. Medium karts are pretty even all out. Heavy karts start real slow but have higher top speeds. The heavier karts can push around other karts lighter than it. For example: Bowser’s kart can bully Yoshi’s kart or lower. Yoshi cannot bully the heavier karts but can bully the karts lighter than it, like Baby Mario’s. I love this game so much, I miss playing it. I’m hoping you do more on these every now & then!
