Damn DB...this gave me flashbacks of all our nonstop conversations in hotels...but as for Exile...you probably don't remember...but a dirty, snowy, cold ass night in Detroit many winters ago....you pulled out a guitar, sat on the bed, and started playing every song on it...saying ''watch what happens..." and sure enough by end of side 1 every person on the tour was in the room, guitars out, phone book drums out, and we sang and played the whole damn thang. Rock n Roll was on the road agin...cheers mate god bless ya's
I have an episode of my podcast about you coming out in 2 weeks. Would love to have a few minutes of your time to chat and add it to the show. :) Hope you and your family are well.
Otis Gibbs led me here. This guy is the real deal. He gets it...we approach music in the same way. Especially in a 2 guitar setting. Don't play the same thing as the other guy and it's ok to NOT play if it will sound cluttered.
Otis' channel s the BEST.. And this advice about playing in a two guitar band, its perfect... Its nice to have a 'spread' between you- And Less is more.
Great interview,,,loved it. Glad he mentioned Brian Henneman of the BOTTLE ROCKETS! Thousand Dollar Car! Saw them open for John Fogerty on his 1997 Blue Moon tour. Great live band!
Amazing interview. Dan is simultaneously the epitome of talent, fun, and unfiltered truth, yet he is so humble and real. I have been listening to him play since I was in high school. This interview could have been days long; I dig it.
@EveryoneLovesGuitar thanks for this, love Dan.. Hopefully over time I will listen all the way thru.. And I know you didn't want to dig too deep into the Sats stuff (unfortunately), but did you ever touch on them getting together at some point If not a full scale "reunion", maybe some one-offs.. etc? Would be a shame If they didn't ever play together again, for the fans, etc
I could listen to Dan Baird opine ALL day...in fact I just did! Wow, love that dude, Sats fan from way back & loved those solo records...a national treasure. Cheers Dan!
Yes Dan! I was at the Barrowlands in Glasgow. Got Mauro's drumstick and shook your hand. Thank you so much. Thrilled to hear. Just thrilled to hear that gig was as memorable for you as it was for us fans.
Wow ,what an interview Dan. I love the way you played your music, just a pity we wont get to hear it live again..Stay safe and healthy, love from Belfast
Forgot to add, saw Homemade Sin at a tiny pub gig in Evesham, Worcestershire here in the UK and despite just have come off stage, dripping with perspiration, totally knackered after a long, triumphant set, he still had the good grace to let me take a selfie with him. Made a very old man happy.
Had to ingest this in segments, but as a fan who has met and spoken with Dan on multiple occasions, this brings a big smile to my face. He's just a genuinely unassuming person (despite his achievements) who treats everyone with respect and honesty. Miss you on the road, Dan, but thankful you are still keeping rock'n'roll alive.
58:45 I’m an NRBQ fanatic now too. That band is just incredible. So much love of music in their music. Just joy and killer players with lots of spirit and taste
Wauw man! What a treat. It took me 3 days, but it was worth it. As everything else involving Dan Baird is😊. I’ve seen Dan live more than 40 times, and my heart broke when I got to know that the touring was stopped. Proud that he consider Denmark one of his favourite places to play. No Younger Face will ever take his place in my heart. Being at Dans gigs was the place to be. Craig, thanks for an amazing interview. Best regards from Denmark. Keep smiling. Hans P.S. just Got The word that The Chefs album has been dispatched😊
Dan, if you are reading this,SC loves you. Damn it, I have seen Y'all several times. I'm a die hard southerner who ain't gonna move. I lived through Hugo in 1989.. I'd like to talk to you. I used to sneak into a local dive bar to see a band that played Judas Priest perfectly. A rebel rocker... I wrote my senior term paper on the difference between hard rock and heavy metal and scored the best grade in the class. I'm 59, so I've been there, done that. Now, it's me and my 6th mini-schauzer, Prince Sir Bugselot Boogerbutt, Bugsy. I would lie down and die for him. He's beautiful 😍.
Any aspiring professional musician would do well to pay close attention to this interview. I am not one but payed close attention anyway and came away enlightened and entertained. Well done both of you gents.
I seen Dan and homemade sin 2 or 3 times at Tante Olga in Randers in Denmark and once at a bike meet in Odense in Denmark at Fraugde MC, they were sooo good and some of the kindest mucisians i have ever met, i really hope they will be back again some day ❤️ i even have Dan’s autograf on my wallet to this day even thou it is about 12 years ago when he signed it 😉
I have been waiting for an in depth Dan Baird interview forever! This fantastic. Dan is rock and roll personified. Look up rock and roll in the dictionary and there should just be a photo of Chuck, Keef and Dan. Can't wait for The Chefs record with Stan Lynch!
Dan is a smart guy. Fun to listen to him talk. Clear eyed. A wise, honest man and a wise guy. :) Seriously, this guy could teach philosophy and make it stick. :)
I saw them at the Rupp Arena back in the 80s and they opened for Hank Jr and boy they killed it . We were late getting there but we still caught some of their Jam .
Fantastic conversation . Always been a fan of Dan’s music and thanks to you I feel I know so much more about the personality behind the lyrics . Such a positive attitude and genuine honesty . Thanks for sharing the full video instead of edited clips .
Thanks very much, Craig , for this great, both inspired and inspiring interview! So much to take notes about! I'll have to listen to it several other times. Dan Baird is a musical hero of mine - along with all the guys from the Sats/Scorchers/Yayhoos/Bluefields etc. brotherhood. I enjoyed immensely Jason's interview that I watched about 3 weeks ago. Now, Warner Hodges, Joe Blanton, Eric Ambel are on the list... It's going to be fantastic. Thank you again, Craig. I'm enjoying your programs very much from the distant land of Mongolia. Andre
As a born an bred Ga boy from Atlanta I was lucky enough to to see the. Satellites a few times last time was at the Earl in Atlanta man they were a force to be reckoned with. Great interview
This is the interview you want your band to watch multiple times - even if they have to be tied up in a basement to make sure they hear every word. Dan Baird has more Rock n Roll wisdom and solid philosophy in his little finger than…
Just found this - superb. Great wisdom here on playing. Our band plays "Hands" and "All Over But the Crying" always goes over great. We have a blast and the (small) crowd loves it. Homemade Sin gigs were always our band Christmas party in London every year - I remember saying to a friend that it takes years of playing to make it look as easy as Dan does !!!!
I totally agree about the Dead. My favorite era is 69 through Europe 72. They passed through a lot of universes in those four years. After Pigpen died, it was just a long and slow decline.
@@seanhennessey9869 They definitely had a lot of great music left in them after 1972. I know that some people consider the mid to late 70s their best era, so we all like what we like. For me, the Europe '72 tour was the peak they never equalled. Blues for Allah is a bad-ass record though.

Interesting that DB referenced 'Salt of the Earth' - as he is. To paraphrase Col. Kilgore (Robert Duval) in Apocalypse Now = 'outstanding, red team, get you a case of beer for that one.'
