I was talking to an oldtime driver one day he was telling me that he grease his truck every weekend, he said he had never had a u joint fail in all his years of truckin, 40 years i think. he said he bought a 93 international new drove it 1.6million miles before having a major failure, one of the rearends failed. it had a caterpiller engine and was the best truck he ever owed,
I have a 2023 Cascadia. I changed the filters at 37,000 miles. I didn't change the oil until I got 92,000 miles on it. If you do an oil analysis, you will know when the oil is breaking down. Then you can change it.
Damn. I followed the recommendation from Detroit which is every 50k miles last year. I try to do it around 45k miles. No problems so far. Truck has 705k miles on it. The engine oil is always jet black. But to me it always looks good and the truck runs fine. I would say that in the last 100k miles i probably changed the oil and oil filter and diesel filter 3 times. I used to do it every 12k miles but now that feels like too much.
I change my oil every 15k
Living in Chicago I run the surrounding states
Mostly flat land…. I believe 15k is a good mileage point for MY truck

If it gets over 7 mpg and uses either CK-4 or FA-4 spec oil Detroit says it’s good for 75000 miles. The only way you can know for sure if the oil is bad is take a lab sample. It’s probably fine.

Yes detroit recommends 50k on oil intervals however if u notice the fine print it also says with a oil sample program because oil looses viscosity and also gets acidic can also have fuel dilution I rather change oil at a mileage that the oil sample dictates on my truck its around 15k to 20k were the TBN is low and gets acidic. Every truck is different best way is they oil analysis then u get your number and aren't guessing.

Most guys changin your oil at 15k or less are spendning your money. Get the oil sampled, its way cheaper to sample than to do early oil changes on this modern and efficient engines.
If the sample comes back good, extend the oil channge a couple thousand miles, and so forth.
Im currently running 25k miles on oil changes with samples on a 2010 1.3mil mile dd15. Samples give you more data than your mechanical theories will.

How do you feel about bypass filters? I use the fs2500 bypass filter system, change my oil and all filters at 2500, and take a sample and change the bypass filter every 12500 miles. That's on a 2014 dd15.

you can compare your oil change to your car or pickup truck, most take 4 to 6 quarts so dd15 takes 11 gallons, close to 10 times more capacity, i change oil in my cars at 3000 miles times 10 = 30000miles, but you also have to consider the fact that your pulling heavy loads and idling some times, thats why i change mine at 20000miles and grease it every 10000miles, i notice when i take it to get the pm done ive had a hard time getting loves or ta to grease all my grease fittings, the drive shaft ujoints and slip yokes always get skipped over . so i bought a good grease gun and grease every fitting 10000 miles in between pms myself.

I do every 20k with every filters , and Dd13 505hp running strong 540 k miles no problems at all !

Put on an OPS bypass filter and test every 25k. Save lots of money and keep oil clean longer
I change my oil every 10,000 miles with Mobil Delvac to hell with what Detroit says. You can just look at color of the oil. When it's jet black you better change that and here's a tip when you have dirty engine oil the more the truck regens. When you have clean engine oil the less the truck regens.

Hola Francisco , tengo una duda ,tengo un camión con motor Cummins n14 celect plus ,cuando lo compre un mecánico me dijo que usará aceite 15w50y lo hice pero después de leer el manual me di cuenta que recomienda usar 15w40 ,puedo regresar a ese aceite después de seis meses de haber usado 15w50? Si lo puedes cambiar no hay problema te recomiendo semi sintético
Detroit says 75,ooo miles for efficient long haul, ( I assume that means mostly flat terrain and skirts on the trailer.) For regular long haul, they say 60,000 miles. So I think I would use a top synthetic and change @ 40,000 to be safe

Si lo agarrastes zero millas, asle el cambio a las 10mil. Todo motor nuevo suelta particulas finitas de los metales, asta que sienta bn el motor. Despues asle el 2do cambio a las 20mil, y sacale una muestra al aceite para que analisen el aceite en un labortario donde te diran que metales o liquidos encontraron en esa muestra que no devan estar alli. Metal en la muestra indica desgate en alguna parte del motor por falta de lubricion sea por cambio de aceite prolongado o falla mecanica. Antifreeze o disel en la muestra, indica un sello o empaque desgastado. Despues de cada muestra limpia, extiendele el cambio de aceite por 5k millas asta que llegues a un millaje donde creas tu que sea seguro mantener el aceite.

Do you mean the crank case filter?
I change.a fleet on dd15 every 10k miles. These are short trip about 300 miles round trip for this fleet. A lot of stop and go. Hwy trucks I would go 20k

My opinion is it's a waist, oil manufacturers of the good oils put the right amount of additives etc and would not risk not doing so, so on the newer ones I would not
@@rtrucking101 That’s right. Lucas isn’t fixing your engine it’s just covering up the problem and making it worse. I never run oil additives as long as you buy good oil it will keep the engine clean.
Lucas is a complete scam. I don’t use any of their products.
What are your thoughts about Castrol Gold 10W30 semi-synthetic engine oil? I have been using this on 25000 miles intervals.
I will say, 25k will be the max with synthetic oils. But also you have to calculate the idle time of the engine when the vehicle is stopped. Nevertheless, it can work fine. I used it and it works fine.
@@franciscoamayaYT my idling time is probably 7-10 % considering winter time right now, but mostly is just the amount of time the truck needs to warm up (15 minutes max) before each shift. which full synthetic engine oil would you recommend?

I have a 2014 Cascadia with a DD15 engine. I use Chevron synthetic Blend 10w30 and 2 gallons of Amsoil. How often should I change it with this oil?
Syn blend is between 10% to 30% full syn so that’s more like 3 gal of syn and 6 gal of conventional mixed together. Then add the 2 gal of Amsoil and you’re about 50/50. In that case you should change your oil between 20k and 30k for best protection.
For my Series 60 12.7L I get a oil change every 20k miles and grease the truck every 5k miles. I use original Detroit filters, 8 gallons of conventional Delvac, and 3 gallons of full synthetic Amsoil.

Why not just run a semi synthetic? I switched to Rotella T5, at 20k intervals.
@@haulingfuel4759 I didn’t want to pay for semi synthetic. It’s cheaper to use a commercial account for Amsoil to get better detergents and pricing for synthetic. The cheap conventional is there to fill up the oil pan.
I Have a DD15 & I change the Oil between 10k to 11k miles I use Delvac.
Thats what i do in my 2009 dd15 nd it to 1,455,000 miles almost million mf half..
On low milage engines you may get away with replacing the oil at 50 thousand, but you are pushing the viscosity stability to it's limits. I change all filters and oil at 20 thousand and I watch the idle oil pressure like a hawk. A high mileage DD engine also needs a rack adjust as scheduled or you risk damage to the engine over the long haul.

My truck puts money in my pocket. My oil starts showing any signs of stickiness or it feels off. Its changed usually around 25 > 30k no exceptions
