If you can get 125.00 per quarter cord, MORE POWER TO YOU! We can't get (or sell it) for that number here in the U.P. as there are too many low Ballers out there willing to give their processed firewood away. But I think the end cost SHOULD be right about at where you're at. Shoot, I just paid 140.00 per cord for two quad axle log trucks for 20 cords of logs. If I have to pay that much to buy the raw materials, I feel that I should absolutely be getting more than the 320.00 per cord that I'm charging to sell it. And I'm one of the highest priced people around. Some are selling a processed cord for 260.00-280.00. It doesn't even pay to get out of bed for those numbers.
Great strategy Adam. The logs are very appealing to the weekend firewood cutter who does it because he enjoys it (come to think of it, that's why most of us do it also!). Not a huge savings for that person, but the exercise, outdoors time, and therapy are priceless. Hope to get some time to talk to you at Bunyan!
I love the growth and experimentation with other “products”. Maybe $4-5 marshmallow sticks in a barrel too? (I kinda like that idea!!) - Cheers, J.Andre. / Old Iron Acres
In a recent video you suggested to check out Dave Ramsey. Thanks!! Hooked on that show now! As an European (Netherlands) I’m amazed by the American credit system.
I wish you the best Adam. This day and time it's getting hard to find a person that will put in the amount of work it takes to work up 1 1/2 cords of wood. An update will be interesting.
Good video Adam, you know your area and the prices of your area. Seems like a good deal to me for the people who don’t have the equipment of getting that wood. The value I see in this is that the person who buys the trailer load can have you drop it in there yard and start cutting, splitting, and stacking right in their yard. Value in that as well. Keep us posted.
I follow several different firewood websites and I currently use several of your tips of advice on selling firewood. I just may put these new ways into practice. Thank you
Thought I recognized your area....I was born near where you live....of course I remember THAT!! Anyway....love your videos, Adam....I'm inspired to, when I retire, find a wooded property and just live the life. Thanks for all you share!!
It's always good to have options for the consumer. Also long standing customers as we age might not want to cut and split and buy now. You have a price point for every age and ability.👍👍
Fair price for the load of logs. I live in Ontario and I buy it already blocked the trailer is6x12x6 high for 300 and get alot of wood from it atlest 9 face cord just have to spilt and pile
I own a Tree Service business in North Dakota. We deliver dump trailer loads of logs to people for free whenever we can just to avoid handling it further. Very different industry though. I hope it goes well for you. Love the content.
Great job on thinking outside the box and giving your firewood customers options to buy firewood. I’ll bet that load of firewood logs will sell quickly and it is very fairly priced.
I would be that guy to take a load of uncut logs, I think you will have no problem finding that customer. Having it delivered would be a huge benefit. Most guys rely on "Chip Drop" services and you normally dont get what you want or it is more hassle than going out to get it yourself.. I have been there!!! The only concern I would have and is your trailer us not in use until that load sells. Hopefully it will be a quick sale.
Good day, I am in Canada just north of Toronto. We have been heat with wood for 20years and always by loads if logs and do it ourselves. Struggling with the cost now. It is almost as expensive to heat with wood as anything else. $900 for a tri axel of logs years ago now its $1600. That gets a thru 1 winter with a little left over now I look for large loads of just what u put in your trailer. My last load of junk wood was $1100 for a 40 yard bin. Love your videos
GOOOOOOOOOD SATURDAY MORNING EVERYONE!!!…. From another overcast & drizzly day in Virginia Beach…Smaaaaaht decision on your part. Hoping it works out well for you. Keep up the great work. Love the drone footage! Have a day!
Hey Adam, I saw your ad on Marketplace after watching this video. I’d say you’re priced fair and I’d be tempted to get a load, but I have too much on hand as it is! Best of luck, bud.
Nice changes adding options to attract new customers (and using your mom's signmaking skills). All your justification numbers make total sense to me (sad that inflation has become a top factor). My only reservation is exactly how much firewood can be processed from that trailer-load of logs. I'm thinking you would get closer to a cord than 1.5 cords. That would clearly impact your calculus. But yes, measuring it as you suggest would be wise. You always have the option of adjusting your price if you need to based on demand.
@@BS.-.- In my market, that'd be roughly half price of what buying split wood costs you. Not terrible for someone that wants to save money and do the work themselves.
12:50 at $500 a cord of firewood is equivalent to 155G of heating oil or $600 delivered at today's prices. The convenience and storage of burning oil is likely the better bargain unless you are someone who loves stoking a fire day and night.
Processed wood is 500+ a cord from the big guys up here - I wish I could pay your prices and get hardwood instead of softwood too. Will be interesting to see how well your idea works out.
For reference, I typically get a slightly larger load from a guy with a goose-neck trailer. A "heavy" 2 cord load. All oak, $250. So you're certainly in the right price range. Fuel has gone up a bit so he may be charging a little more. (This is upstate NY)
Good luck selling those logs. In the area i live in, you would be hard pressed to sell that trailer load of wood for 50 dollars. So many people sell wood here it's crazy. There is always plenty of wood on market place for free.
It’s so interesting, you can buy cords of wood in North NJ for $200-250 all day long. 2 cords delivered is $400-450.00. I don’t deliver and get $100. for a 4’ x 8’ rack that is about 18” long wood. I need a road side stand. Maybe once all the dead ash trees are gone, prices will improve.
Adam, I think you are in touch with what the market will tolerate. You have good selection that will appeal and provide value added home grown products to your customers. Your thinking outside the box and adding to your market share, while increasing your productivity focusing on what get you the most value for time well spent. 😀👍👍👍
You also have to take into consideration your location, I’m in upstate New York our tri-axle load of logs is around $850 and I sell firewood for $255 per cord, and I am on the higher end of this area not counting delivery fees
A full cord around here is up to about $300 cut, split, not seasoned. This is the Catskills in upstate NY. Not too far. That is about what those logs will produce, so not economical to buy the logs at that price. Better to buy the green split wood. Things may be more there, though. A load of logs, the logging truck without a trailer, is about $800 delivered from nearby for comparison. A cord and a half against $1,000 for a tri axle might be a tipping point, though.
Hey Adam, pulpwood prices are currently very low compared to historical prices indicating supply is exceeding demand. This is a little different than your firewood price however. My reaction is 300 for the trailer is too high considering I would have to cut and split. It is also the undesirable logs that you don’t wanna split… price it to sell at 200 or 175! Love the idea good luck
Well not to be a party pooper... most people that cut and split wood (especially for heat) know that wood has very little value till it is processed. As far as I'm concerned wood is near free, the buck split and season is the value. Good luck selling the logs and keep us updated, but i would not pay more than fuel cost for delivery.
Up here the the Pacific Northwest (redwoods) . You can get a mixed load(cord) of madrone &oak or fir seasoned split and delivered for about $375. You never said if the logs your selling was seasoned ready to be bucked ,split and ready to burn? You’d never get $300 for that trailer load up here at this time. Last April I bought a 5yd dump truck load of alder and spruce logs for $100😊 that being said good luck back in your area.
I enjoy the process of bucking/splitting, have a splitter but usually use a maul instead for the exercise. This would be a great deal for someone in a similar situation. I'm way too far away but hope you find takers in your area!
Depending on how long your trailer is sitting there full of logs. Your price could change. If you need your wagon bad enough. Also, when cash is at hand. You price to sell. Good video.
Glad to see you're making progress on your timber situation. Your neighbor Doug mentioned either on Back 40 or Firewood at the Furnace's live stream the other day that you should have a fellowship gathering like Brad's to help you get it done. By the way, what is the length of your bar on your Stihl?
Depends on what type of wood. Black Oak is i think the best here in the West and sells for the most. It's slow hot burning but some people like Madrone but it makes more ash. What type of fire wood are you selling?
Curious if you've considered getting a wood fired boiler for heat/hot water or setting-up a wood gas generator to create electricity. Good way to use such heaps of junk wood and scraps.
Great idea and price per trailer load...I was wondering how you would get into that stockpile.......Just a thought....While at Bunyan, in addition to networking to selling your different offerings of firewood, perhaps you could talk to reasonably local guys (to you) who have splitters, trailers etc....If you're open to having others working on your property, you could make some sort of bartering arrangement....Ex: For every half or full cord of crooked wood splitter A does (for free), they have have to split a few baskets or equal amount for you. As I see it, if he's up to it, you could have neighbor Doug on the excavator moving/stacking logs for you and splitter A while you're chainsawing logs for your splitter. Afterwards, you would have already split and ready to season firewood (with no direct time investment) plus a huge stockpile of ready to be processed logs you can do as time permits. I hope this helps....Having a huge stockpile of ready to be processed logs near your splitter could be beneficial when it's sloppy in the log yard and you don't want to make it worse running the excavator around...This would erase sloppy day downtime.
Great idea selling the logs Adam. By the way, Mike Morgan says that the baskets hold about one-third of a cord. Are you using smaller baskets than Mike? I know there are two different sizes. Also, I hope you have some type of locking mechanism for the hitch on the trailer. The way things are in this day and age you can't take anything for granted. Anyway, stay safe and healthy. Bill H from Cranberry Township
I'd buy a trailer of logs like that. I like cutting and splitting, but don't have access to trees. I think you'd probably be surprised on how many people would like that option.
Hey Adam, good idea offering more options! My math has your trailer a little over a cord if it's stacked 2.5' high, kinda hard to tell from the video. I find logs take up more space than split/stacked wood, but even if it's just over a cord to me $200 "savings" seems about right. I sent my son my spreadsheet on my costs and he said "you'll work for $15/hr, you're hired!" I told him no....I get paid $15/hr to go to the gym and clean up my bush!😜 Mine is a very small hobby operation...
I agree. 500 seems really steep. I am from Western Pa as well and sell a cord for 240. Not saying with all of the work and expense that it isn't worth 500 but I certainly can't sell any at that rate. wouldn't surprise me if he sells it though. I know another youtuber in my area that is able to pull in more $$ for his as well.
@DanKlein_1 outside with Schibe? (I butchered that) Those wire cages are about $75 here also I sell trucks loads for $80 (Nissan frontier) it's just under a 1/3
Maybe you could host a Westernmade Acess day with a few people in your area? Supply fuel and do a BBQ, and I am willing to guess that at least 2 individuals would be willing to help! You keep the wood though...
I think you'll find the opposite is true when you cut, split and stack processed firewood it takes up less room. Just look at all of the air space between those logs in the trailer. I could be wrong. It'll be interesting to see when you process a load.
Adam your very trusting leaving your out the front? I think if you firstly seperate the better wood for the processor and keep it of the ground as you started that’s a great start, you should be able to do the same thing with the less desirable sized wood that you could come back to when supplies are low. You can always offer a budget offer of wooden logs as an alternative.
Can you give me a rough quote for trailer load delivered to N. Ireland 🇮🇪 😅. Great idea hope it sells for you Adam . Advertise locally, if theres any tool shops near you selling chain saws etc, ask if you can put a small advert up for full logs for sale 😉
I’d love to see you split the trailer and see where your at. I’m thinking more like 6 loads to = a log truck. At $200 I’d have you bring me a load but I’m hesitant at $300 and may just go for the log truck at $850-$1000. Would you deliver to Fairview township 16124? I’ll be on the lookout for the video of you splitting the trailer load!
Aggghhh, I do not like hearing that word, "anyways"!! It means a great video is over!! 😢 You are just brilliant with putting different choices out there for people!! Your signs just make it all look so classy! Good job, Mom!! ❤ We're still in the 90's, which isn't normal, even for South Louisiana!! Anyways, 😉 God bless y'all! 👍❤️🙏👍
Quality small spilt dry wood ready to burn is well worth 125$ a basket. Fire wood has been sold WAY to cheap for the effort to produce it. You’ll sell it all !
I prefer even cooler weather, 30-50 degrees, for firewood work, but will do it any time. Good way to reduce labor and move the wood selling logs. Sure it’s a lower price, but your input is a lot less too. Prices on everything are going nuts now. Firewood is energy, so it goes up as energy goes up. $500 for a cord of seasoned wood when purchased in 1/4 cord increments isn’t bad - seems to agree with the market by me, although I don’t buy or sell firewood. I just take care of me and my parents from our land. I work with mostly gnarly stuff because we try to keep and enhance the growing environment for nice straight trees for lumber value.
I would keep the trailer load of logs priced at $300. You can always lower the price, if needed. What are your thoughts on that price now, after 5 weeks have passed? How many trailer loads sold?
For a guy who actually uses trailers you should invest in a better ball hitch. Also look into sumo springs so the truck doesn't squat as much. It's a hard form that replaces your bump stock
My only thought is your a bit high on the trailer load. .. $250 is about the fair going rate if you shop around .. I would always start around the 250 and see how supply and demand goes.
$500 a cord is why i get grapple loads and do this myself…I’m not knocking the price tag, i know it’s a fair price, but just another reason folks need to not be afraid of some manual labor…save yourself a significant amount of money and get in shape while doing it :D
I think this is a great idea, and I'm the type of guy who would be your customer (chainsaw/splitter guy, with a firewood side hustle) However,,,, in my area it is fairly common to be able to get comparable wood to this for free from tree services (they have to pay to get rid of it) I'd be willing to buy a trailer load like this, but not for more than $50-$100. Just honest feedback
Hi Adam, for interest I checked firewood local to me in the Cotswolds, for a 2 cubic meter crate delivered the best cost is £325, £1 is currently $1.25, I think 2 cubic meters is 70 cubic feet, so to me your wood looks like a bargain! In comparison we buy bundle firewood for £8 a bag, about 1 of yours
Your accounting skills sure come in handy. I would buy that load for $300 - easy! Just curious, I have always wondered - what is the purpose for those other structures near the road side stand. Just curious.
Yes , i pay 15 pounds for a twenty kilo bag of coal nuts(smokeless) thats just over 18 US dollars. And i have to pick up the bags myself. I wish i could buy some of that wood but it’s a bit far away from England. Some kid could log up a trailer full and sell it on the road side to the townies or horsey set that pass by for a profit.

I find logs take up more space than split/stacked wood, but even if it's just over a cord to me $200 "savings" seems about right. I sent my son my spreadsheet on my costs and he said "you'll work for $15/hr, you're hired!" I told him no....I get paid $15/hr to go to the gym and clean up my bush!😜 Mine is a very small hobby operation...
doin' a little "man-scaping," eh?
In northeast PA, wood prices are all over the place, a triaxle runs $500 (but delivery is $300)
Cords are from $170 -$250ish
(I butchered that)
Those wire cages are about $75 here also
I sell trucks loads for $80 (Nissan frontier) it's just under a 1/3
Maybe you could host a Westernmade Acess day with a few people in your area?
Supply fuel and do a BBQ, and I am willing to guess that at least 2 individuals would be willing to help!
You keep the wood though...
Your pricing seems to be reasonable but yeah I'd like to see you process a trailer load to see how much it is when processed
Processing a load will make a good video. One stacked compared to thrown in? Pond update?
I'd be very interested in the logs if it were around the 100.00/load price and loaded with 3-4 more logs.
my 6x14 trailer will hold a full cord loosely thrown in, it has 2 1/2 foot sides and it is over full.
Consider setting a loaded basket in front of the trailer to help prevent someone from stealing it.
Maybe you could sell for outdoor boiler wood. I think those take 3 or 4 foot bolts of wood for some.
It would make a great video to determine the volume of wood is in the trailer. It would also justify your pricing. Let’s get going.
Prices are reasonable. I wouldn't be shocked if you get some people who ask about wheeling their own trailers in to try forgo delivery fees.
I wish someone sold logs like this in my area. It costs a lot for gas and renting the trailer.
Plenty of types of wood go for $500/cord in Alberta/NWT.
That's pretty steep compared to mn prices. We pay 80 to 110 a cord for red oak logs delivered.
that cherry is worth some to someone that has a smoker. hope you jave a lock for your hitch
I think this is a great idea, and I'm the type of guy who would be your customer (chainsaw/splitter guy, with a firewood side hustle)
However,,,, in my area it is fairly common to be able to get comparable wood to this for free from tree services (they have to pay to get rid of it)
I'd be willing to buy a trailer load like this, but not for more than $50-$100.
Just honest feedback
Good stuff Adam.... choices open new avenues for revenue...
You might add to the sign "Dump trailer not included".
You are thinking outside the box. If the log sale doesn’t work you can cut the squirrely ones shorter and run them through
Your accounting skills sure come in handy.
If you’d pay $300 for that, I have a bridge for sale
