  • Water leaks can cause catastrophic damage to a structure. The Flo by Moen acts as a sort of "electrical circuit breaker." It senses water flow and can turn off the water supply to a home in case of a leak. This unit can be used during construction, which is very cool.

You had to walk the plumber through where the main shut off was? Wow you're a great educator! 👊

It's interesting how much training is needed now. Just had an issue with some insulators

I came on here looking for someone who’d installed this with a bypass, in case the smart valve fails.

I’ve had a Flo by Moen for just under 2 years. Mine stopped working because the tiny magnets in the plastic turbine corroded. I was shocked to learn that no replacement parts are available. I complained and Moen ultimately replaced my unit in a “one-time offer”. Other users have also experienced this failure mode. The plastic turbine is a small inexpensive (I think) part. Why Moen doesn’t sell a replacement part is a mystery. I’m very disappointed and cannot recommend the Flo valve.

Moen came out with a replacement turbine that you can buy for I believe $80. So if you can replace the turbine when it gets corroded, would you buy it? Or would you get Phym plus that has no turbine?

    • @brainslink

@@devilsmetsfan6393 80 bucks is steep. If you're not handy and need to call a plumber to install the new turbine, now you're out over $200. Mine corroded after two years. Not worth the hassle or cost. I'd buy Phyn next time.

the pricing comment is not accurate. Part 935-016 is the 3/4" or 1" Flo turbine at $9.95 or part 935-017 is the 1-1/4" Flo turbine$11.15 as of 1/3/24

This was a long time ago. The main thing is to make sure your valves can be turned all the way.

If I were a betting person I would have put money that the tub and sink were going more than 5 gpm, and a 10 second shutoff was what I was expecting. I don’t think I’ll be the only one who watches the test with a stopwatch (or resetting the video back to when you turned it on) and then cheers when it shuts off.
This is such useful technology and one that isn’t used nearly enough. Thanks for walking us through!
You are very thoughtful thinking of the next homeowner and plumber by putting the bypass and valves around Flo as opposed to just handing them the Flo installation spacer. I’m not a plumber either, but I’d assume once you put the bypass in, code probably requires a single shutoff on the house side of the supply line.
Local mode is a great safety measure, but one that all trades have to know about when they use water at the house. Have you encountered any problems with trades while leaving Flo in High mode?

    • @PioneerBuildersInc

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. It is pretty cool to be at the front end of this.
The only history we have is that it kept trimming when the plumber installed it. I think he should have charged the system, having someone checking all the fixtures/fittings, then turned on the Flo and run the leak test with the Flo. If you turn on the Flo with all the street pressure flowing through it, it'll keep tripping.
At least, that's my theory. We'll see as time goes on what we learn.

My Flo keeps shutting off after about an hour of my irrigation system running. This is annoying because sometimes it’s scheduled to run for several hours. I have irrigation system in the settings. How can I prevent Flo from shutting off during irrigation?

    • @NoMoreLeaks
      @NoMoreLeaks Рік тому +2

@@RobertLeBlancPhoto Springtime, when irrigation systems are turned back on, is hard for all these water detectors. Have you tried putting in a manual override? In your device settings under Advanced Features you can add a manual override for a certain period of time (along with other parameters) in FloSense. I walked through it here: ua-cam.com/video/2bs_WGqvDd8/v-deo.html 🤞that helps!

While I don't have firsthand experience, once the unit is connected through wifi to the app, I think you can "train" it for actual consumption. My Sense that I have uses machine learning to identify electrical devices, but it still requires some user attention for proper identification. For me, this is chiefly an in construction device. But given the avoidance of a major water event and possible lower homeowners insurance, it seems like a good decision for an owner. Nice to hear from you. 🤓

    • @shamrock007CA

It addresses larger (and smaller homes) once occupied by working through a "learning period". The video shown here shows how the product works in "LOCAL MODE" while the home under construction or fully constructed, but not occupied. Local Mode protects the builder and the future owner in case a pipe bursts, leaks or there is vandalism. Once the home is occupied, the homeowner has wi-fi installed, and installs the Moen Flo APP on their phone(s) the device is registered and sync'd to the APP. It then runs through a 'learning period' to understand the occupied homes typical usage. It's important this is done AFTER move-in when the homeowner water consumption is normal. The device learns the water consumption of the occupants and will notify the the homeowner through text, call or email if it detects usage it believes is suspect/out of the norm. Through the APP the homeowner can open/close the Flo device, put the device into "SLEEP MODE" if the homeowner knows there will be unusually high usage - big house party, filling a pool, car or pressure washing, etc or "AWAY MODE" if the homeowner knows they will be away for a period of time and no water will be used and wants the water automatically shut off if any water is used. (this is a nice feature for second/vacation homes when they are unoccupied)
