Chromatic Mediant and Slip modulation is a great way to nail an Epic Harmony sound. What's that sound like in an easy orchestration?

I love the subtle polyrhythms in the 2nd example.
Chris you are an angel sent to Earth. This is exactly what I needed.
Thank you so much, a hug!
I spent free time last week doing exactly this. I also had a violin line wavering between two semi-tones. Thanks for the inspiration and follow-up!
Awesome
Thank you Chris, that was fantastic. My constant companion has been Alfred Blatter's orchestration textbook, which gives great modern (ish) overviews of each instrument.
Oh Yeah thats it! Helped me a lot, thanks
Glad to hear it!
I'd love to have the MIDI files for this available for download... great instructive tool for such orchestration. You could name the files with the instruments that were on the tracks.
why do you call it a Ab - not a G#? I know they are enharmonic, but - how do you choose?
Good question. I make those choices based on tone function, with a dash of “what’s easier to read quickly “ thrown in. For instance G# is the third of E Major, so instead of spelling Ab, it’s G. I’ve done a long video on spelling in my Getting Started series, if I recall.
@@ImpliedMusic tnx - my tactic in such cases is, if I'm coming from E - then I call it G#, if I'm coming form Eb - then it's Ab. Maybe that's because I'm an accordionist and I have my basses buttons divided on sharps and flats in the Stradella bass system :)
But I your case E is a mediant - I understand it can go either way ...
Thank you did Shostakovich also used often mediant progression with his own scales they have not so clear dominant tonic sound .
