Please, excuse my face, voice, cough, etc.. I was sick in the beginning of this build, now I've got a gnarly sinus infection from my wisdom teeth coming in. I have surgery scheduled for 1/15/2020 @ 8:00AM. Fingers crossed all goes well! I leave for Vegas just 3 short days after surgery..

How do u get that v cut at the bottom of your valley
I don’t know about you but that valley cut out was satisfying
A video on work efficiency would be really cool! Like a compilation of random tricks and tips with saws, tapes, chalk lines, scribing, finding angles, like how the fuck do I get accurate vertical measurements with my tape up against a ceiling or window well etc.. I always have to make it a little long then trim it to get that perfect fit... you look like you just eyeball everything perfect... skills...
Man this build has been a blast to watch go up. Almost sad to see it end.
Why do your tails sit below your facia top edge?
Probably for the sheathing to run over everything. Hard to tell
Because the tails and facia is at a plumb cut , plywood will terminate on the valley board and end of facia

Dentist will go smooth, they made me sign a disclosure saying I wouldn't film or record audio in the surgery room. I'll definitely have cameras rolling as soon as i'm out! LOL

Just a question, I've always been taught take your line hip cut and then another line 13/4 back on a 2x so that way it's just cut from one direction then cut from the other. Is there a reason your not doing this? I can see it's not a 2x but still the same concept would work just wondering

You just said the same thing that I was always told on cutting hips and valleys the only time you use hip and valley is when you’re cutting a hip or a valley
It’s stuck in my head! Can’t tell you how many times I see guys cut stuff on a hip/valley and it’s meant to be a common.
Too simple of a mistake to make! Once you know, it’s like riding a bike. 😊

Excellent video as usual. Thanks. A question: It looks like your starter board is 2x and sheeting is 5/8. How do you address the difference in thickness or does that matter in this case?
All of our lookouts, corbels, etc were dropped 1-1/8” to make the T&G flush out with trusses. That way sheathing goes right over the top smoothly.

Never seen a carpenter use electric tools especially big guns for holding wood. Maybe I'm old school
They never really made good ones til this hitachi/metabo. I mean paslode was good but always would run out of gas when you were in a bind, the dewalt jammed like crazy and had to ramp up and the Milwaukee really wasn't up to par much either but this hitachi/metabo is just killing it. There's room for improvement but it does the job and truly does it well.

I note you always leave the heel of the saw up when you start your cuts. Is that for better control or to put less stress on the saw when cutting?
So it won't jerk his cut/blade when ever the heel settles and ending up with a crooked cut.

That T&G has me thinking of changing my soffit detail on my own house I am drawing up. Are you going to be able to hide roofing fasteners from showing on the underside?
It looks like he dropped the rafters on the overhang just about 3/4" (if that's the thickness of the t&g ) and then sheeted over the t&g with plywood(or osb) typically about 1/2" ... so if you use 1" roofing nails on shingles they wouldn't penetrate the underside of the t&g nor would the appropriate length fastener if using other roof materials

I’d say my diamondback holster hooks and my hammer flies out more than his.
I’d say I’ve seen his hammer fall out once, maybe twice.. In years! I have no idea how it stays in there, I really don’t have a clue.. It does somehow!

That angle was odd, saw was very far away from the body! Nowhere near the leg, I saw it when I edited it, looked close.
@@MattBangsWood I was referring to the close up view of the out of focus hornet flying right in front of the lens. For some reason hornets like the smell of sawdust.

I’ve been a residential carpenter for about six years now doing exterior/interior remodeling but really wanna make the jump to to building/framing most ppl kinda make a sour face when I voice this any advice would appreciated
That's backwards in my opinion. I framed houses for many years, now I remodel and paint, I dont miss it.
