Forgot to mention that in order to use the QR code you must use the barcode scanner in the App! Also, you can import your Discogs collection by writing them at contact@recordscanner.com and they will do it manually. This feature will come out in the future.

I installed the app and it works fine, if you want to add more than 30 records you need to pay for subscription, which I don't want. I rather pay once for the app itself.

Ciao

It's a good start, but for vinyl the story is in the deadwax. You can have different pressings, but the same barcode. Meaning the price "they" suggest may not be that accurate. But good to get you in the right direction like others said while digging the bins.

I downloaded this app and have been using it to inventory my cd's, vinyl and shellac. It has not found everything but has been a great tool for organization purposes alone. I knew nothing about these apps, so, Thank you very much. The app is very cool. Thank you for promoting vintage gear, as well as some new stuff. Too many folks only talk about new gear. I have old Nakamichi gear from the 80's and have had it since new. It is fantastic and sounds excellent. More people should know about old hifi gear. It is an easy way to get into great sound at an affordable price. Have you ever considered doing a user system at the end of your videos? Similar to Steve Guttenberg? you could do it in a unique way and I'm sure many of your viewers have great vintage systems. Could be fun. Just an idea. Thank you and keep up the GREAT WORK.

What horrible thoughts Natan! 😕 I find myself thinking the same after that most of my family has died of cancer but we must think positive! The value indicated is approximative. It's a good starting point but if you have very expensive records I would edit the price so that is solid and it will remain in your collection.

Gents, I'm also not feeling well today but let's cheer up! We heard that in USA people use collections stored in Record Scanner as a some sort of proof for insurance companies - to secure them if something unexpected happens. Like Guido mentioned - it's worth to update the price if the app gives a prediction which is off. So it should work in such case but let's assume there will be no need for that Natan!

Great telling us of that App. Of course there is always the concern of the honesty of sites like Discogs, Record Price Guides and the like. Anyone can say a record got $2,000, but did it really? And if it really did, will you ever likely find anyone that will give you that much for it? Everybody knows that the Record Price Guides you would see in bookstores, (are they still around?), always had prices that were way more than the actual price of lps in your local record store. Often 3x higher. They were obviously not just a price guide, but were hoping to escalate the perceived value of vinyl. In the days when cds were king and loads of people were dumping their vinyl in favor of cds, it created a scenario of not nearly as much demand and much more supply. Did the prices of vinyl in the pages of those so called Price Guides realistically drop, like they did in reality? No. In fact the prices kept going up in the newer revised editions they'd come out with every few years. If Price Guides in book form purposely give you unrealistic prices estimates on vinyl, what makes you think that anyone deeply divested in vinyl, wouldn't be doing the same thing? When you see a bid on ebay, that means that one person out there who saw it is willing to pay a certain price. If there are lots of bids on it and it gets a high price, assuming the bidders are legitimate, ( I know of at least 1 time, it was the sneaky seller who I was bidding against), if all those bidders are legitimate it means the record has some demand and the final auction price is real. Really what some people will pay, around.
It seems like within every 25 years , some brand new format comes out. In 1957 stereo lps came out. 25 years later in 1982, cds came out. 17 years later in 1999, SACD came out. It's 2022, nearly 24 years later. We're due for a new format. Maybe one so good that it will make lps and cds obsolete. Actually it could be more than one. There are a few things in the works right now. One of them uses advanced ION technology, and should be just around the bend. Expensive outrageously priced vinyl buying is not only questionable, it might be downright risky.

      @daTroll Рік тому

@@anadialog ...but it is not! Recordscanner keeps the data of your scanned albums in a proprietary and locked format. The data you store in Discogs is open and there is a handy feature for you to simply export your collection in CSV format. You can then edit the data and re-upload it to Discogs. That's VERY nice! If Recordscanner was attached directly to your Discogs account, and/or allowed some kind of synchronisation or export, I would agree with you. However, as it is, I really don't see the utility of the Recordscanner tool. The only small advantage they have is that the app can help you identify an album based on an image of the front cover. But their subscription fee is too high and the downside (proprietary & locked-in database format) is way too severe. No thanks! EDIT: some kind of import/export features of RecordScanner are referred to in other comments here, but still now (5 months later) those are only vapourware. I need to build my catalog now (because I'm moving house soon and need to have an accurate inventory over my collection), and I don't dare to spend my time on recording my data into a proprietary format. Discogs it is.

    Hey Guido.
Maybe it's in there and you just didn't demonstrate it, but I want more info on the records scanned. I don't want a list over the different releases of an album, and have to figure out which one it is - I want info about the specific record/album I have scanned. I wanna know if it is a first edition or a re-release, and if it is a re-release I wanna know if the quality is as good as the first edition. I also want to know if the source is digital or analog, if it is a bad pressing etc.
You have talked about fake limited editions, poor quality releases, scams etc etc. An app that reveals that BEFORE you buy - THAT's what I want, and that's what the vinyl community needs. An app like that could/would put a stop to all the scams the industry pulls on the consumers. Wish lists, organizers etc. I have no need for.
If you can pass that on to the people behind the app it would be awesome. It would make the app a true succes.
    Stay cool Mate.
    Best wishes from Denmark.

The video is already too long. Couldn't put everything. The scan delivers lots of info, not just a list. There is also space to add info. Check-it out and explore it's free and no hidden expenses! Apart from that, a guy from France created a site for the share the source of records and I helped him to promote it. That is something very hard to do. Not enough people participated and it failed. We can't only ask, must be a community thing and actively create it: ua-cam.com/video/HodnWqRLIh4/v-deo.html

      Hey Mate.
First of all your videos can never be too long. We enjoy every second.
Second, a lot of water has run under the bridge since then, and many more people has been grabbed by the ass by the record industry. A similar thing as the french guy made back then could be added to the app. I bet more would be interested now and besides that, being a part of an already existing app the rest of it could easily carry it even if it turns out to be less successful than I believe it will be. It could be worth a shot. It would be a great weapon against the scammers, and as mentioned just what the community needs. Your channel has grown quite a bit since then and you could offer them to help getting the word out to more people. If you talk to them again, I hope you will suggest it.
      Have a great weekend.

@@recordscanner That sounds truly awesome. Thanks a lot for considering it.
As a suggestion for a way it can be made is to put an option in the app where users can fill out a formula and the info pops up when others search for a release of that specific record, so they can take the warning into account before buying. Of course it won't cover the entire marked either, but it would be a good start.
Once again thank you for considering it and for your response.

This looks like a really useful practical app with lots of functionality that automates a lot of the mind numbing laborious tasks that require laser focussed concentration. It all sounded so fantastic until you mentioned 30 free scans per month. I have a collection of over 10,000 CDs & vinyl. A monthly subscription of £30? FORGET IT- Far too expensive. I already have NETFLIX, AMAZON PRIME, APPLE TV , APPLE MUSIC & QUOBUZ ( I just cancelled ROON) which totals approx £60. There comes a point where all of these services competing in such a crowded market place during a world wide economic depression are going to struggle. If they offered a lifetime subscription then that pricing model might be a more attractive proposition.

Molto valida l'applicazione. Però mi permetto di dire che non suggerirei mai un software che preveda solo l'acquisto di licenza. So che ormai l'andazzo è questo, ma incoraggiarlo proprio no... (Madworld57)

Stupid me. When I saw the word Record Scanner, I thought it would be an app you could point directly at the vinyl and it would tell you whether it was Near Mint, Very Good, Good, etc. 🤣

Are the values and other pictures taken from Discogs/Ebay? If so, how can they use their intellectual property. Another poster did a video on Nasdisc who clearly takes the pictures and descriptions from Discogs. There is a possibility of licensing but why would Discogs grant a license to a start-up company that does an aspect of what Discogs already does. Now, the other youtube channel deleted my comment. Hopefully, your channel realizes the sheer amount of information used on these apps and sites can't be created from scratch.

In the video I clearly stated that the data is sourced by Discogs. Discogs is a creative commons 0. Anybody can use their data even for commercial purposes. The data comes from the community so it is pretty obvious that it belongs to nobody and everybody!

@@anadialog You didn't say sourced but said "based on." So, with that logic I could scrape their website by using bots and set up a similar marketplace for profit that looks just like Discogs. Nobody and everybody doesn't own sites that have contributions from the general public like Ebay, Discogs, and Wikipedia. You need a license (of which there is usually a fee involved) if the company agrees. Discogs most likely wouldn't agree because they have a similar app. You have no respect for intellectual property.
According to Discogs license and site access agreement, "We grant You a limited license to access and make personal use of the Service and not to download (other than page caching) or modify it, or any portion of it, except with Our express written consent. This license does not include any resale or commercial use of the Service, including its contents; any collection and use of any product listings, descriptions, or prices; any derivative use of the Service, including its contents; any downloading or copying of account information for the benefit of another merchant; or any use of data mining, robots, or similar data gathering and extraction tools. The Service, including the content therein, may not be reproduced, duplicated, copied, sold, resold, visited, or otherwise exploited for any commercial purpose without Our express written consent."

That's a valid concern Autumn Aarilyn , a subject we are familiar with from the very beginning. We read, respect and follow the terms of any 3rd party we are using - there's no other way if you want to build something that will last long. And it's a shame that so few people are aware about intellectual property. In the developers world the majority of the people think that scraping is just fine, and then are very surprised when they hear it's actually illegal. From the other side the Internet is supposed to be an open network by definition. But now the situation is different and we agree with that. What you pasted is part of general Discogs Terms of Service. What applies more in our case is Discogs API Terms of Use. Our pricing mechanism is not built on scraping or crawling, that's why we are happy with exposing it to a wider audience. We have our own solution which we have to keep secret as it's quite innovative! Thanks for your comments and we don't understand why your other, similar comment was deleted!
