Thank you SO much for filming this! I noticed a tear in my power steering belt and want to try to replace it myself
Thanks fitztastico! I try to get pics I wish I had when doing these jobs
oops i replied from my other channel
BTW Nick Vogel Noticed the label on Nissan Belt in the video is not for the Alt belt.
great video...had almost identical problem as you. took my truck to a mechanic to stop squealing belts and they tightened them so much that the tension bolts broke. they never mentioned the possibility of needing new belts. after watching this video i was able to replace all three belts myself and the squeal is now gone..thanks again
Right on my friend. So many lame car repair places! Well done!
Thanks for making this video❤. I have a Nissan Xterra. And I hope it's this easy
Great Video! I’m going to replace all these on my moms truck tomorrow. This videos is going to save me some time. Thanks again!!
Glad it helped. Hope the job went well. Would like to hear about how it went. Stay well!
Thanks Boot for the informative video. Belt operating my water pump broke, so this is VERY, VERY helpful.
Glad to help! Please consider subscribing for more frontier vids coming soon!
Thank you so much for the cool simple and well explained video. I know with this video I can do it myself too. It's been stealing for a good while.
Glad it helped! Yes, mine still chirps on startup in hot weather but before it was really bad all the time. Best of luck!
Good video bro! F.Y.I. If the second belt won’t go on easy . You need to take apart the alternator bolt, at the bottom and loosen the tensioner all the way off so it’s nice an easy.
Thanks for the tip RO! Please consider subscribing for more videos coming soon....
Can I run without an AC belt?
My AC died a loooong time ago, and I have no intention of fixing it for a 2002 truck.
Thanks for the video. My alternator also will not pivot. Where is the mounting bolt that it pivots on in relation to the tensioner? Thanks!
Let me get a pic for you. Get back to u In a bit
ua-cam.com/video/3LUXG_NKxEo/v-deo.html . Nick here is pics from shop manual. Be sure to retighten when done. I forgot & bolt fell out a few days after video was done. a miracle alternator & belt didnt fall out onto the road....
@@bootlegcustomshop4129 definitely thanks. I surprised bolt fell out. Did you take that weird lock nut off when you loosened? Or did you just use a wrench to turn crack the seal on the bolt end?
@@nickvogel5656 Weird nut was gone, lucky I found bolt. I got a normal nut, lock washer & all is well.
this video got messed up go to description for new video with all specs
The Nissan dealer lost or broke my alternator tensioning bolt and the piece it goes through. Never told me. After the second time I got left stranded from a dead battery, I found out that it was missing and the alternator would get loose and not recharge the battery. Also, the belts would squeal.
so many dealers are scum i cant believe it. my truck has been doin wierd stuff lately but ill be damned if ill bring it to the dealer.
yes i agree with you 2. why do dealers think people with any repair knowledge would go to them is a mystery....
Well worth a subscription. Thank you sir
Thanks Chuck!! You are the man! Havent made any new Nissan Videos lately but that truck is running great! even at 20 yrs old.
USE OEM Belts, and your problem will go away! Aftermarket belts are slightly too wide, and the v groove is not correct for our pulleys. Using OEM belts fixed my issues. Plus, ensure you tighten them up properly. Too tight or too loose can cause these belts to make noise. I re-check the tension whenever I change the oil.
Thank you sir! Wish you were there when I made this vid. Thought I Was loosin my mind when that 2nd belt wouldnt go on....not a great loss tho.
@@bootlegcustomshop4129 Yes, I love my truck. Been very good to me for 16 years now. Guess we learn some things along the way. Did not have a way to record mine back then. We learn as we go. Take care, and God bles!

How do yo know the perfect tension or tightness for the tensioners? Thanks
@@nickvogel5656 manual sez different things for different belts. If you subscribe I can email you the chart
I'll say this, the damn power steering pump belts from advance, Napa, and Oreilys are all way too loose. You can't tighten the tensioner up tight enough. So dude is definitely right, find Nissan belts.. they may be higher, but ull know ur getting something that works as it should. Good on ya for mentioning that.
Yea, you get what you pay for. Tks DR
So are you saying we have to go to the dealer
@@bobbygomez2365 not necessarily.. take ur old belt with u.. if what they give u is the same size, ur good. I just noticed that each place carried a different size for the same truck. It was strange
I've only had the truck for one month the belt that was on there was chewed up. I put autozone on worked for one day. I've been adjusting it and looking at it multiple times and I just can't figure it out I checked the police and everything seems to be looking good
@@bobbygomez2365 Sometimes the pulleys are super smooth from the belt slipping & rubbing them. Maybe some spray on belt dressing? It gets frustrating but dont over tighten.... For Belt tension specs and bolt locations go to ua-cam.com/video/4g-2_OdDbYE/v-deo.html
Thanks!!!! to easy to pay someone to do it, and half the time they don't do it right.
You got that right FJ!
awesome vid man
Glad you liked it. short & to the point i hope. best of luck buddy!
Thanl you very much for this help
Thanks for writing! Fyi. Just had to tighten my AC belt, after a year it stretched a bit!
I appreciate your Writing AL!
My alternator belt ripped off and now I’m replacing it and I can’t get the belt over the alternator, I loosened the adjuster all the way and even loosened the bolt and nut where the alternator bolts up to, any tips?
yes thats a bitch for some reason as I said. Very tight fit. Maybe get in back of it. Like underneath from behind. Keep me posted Man. I feel your pain....
Subscribed. Thanks
Thank You for getting me to put up more info on the job.
Ac belt squeals when I turn on my 03 I’m wondering about the tension bolt now and also I’m curious on how much tension to put on it?? Any ideas?
IN the description is a link to my followup video with Belt tension specs and bolt locations go to ua-cam.com/video/4g-2_OdDbYE/v-deo.html
For Belt tension specs and bolt locations go to ua-cam.com/video/4g-2_OdDbYE/v-deo.html
I readjusted the tension and so far ac belt is not squealing it was a aftermarket belt but seems to be ok thanks for the great video!
I just had to re tighten my advance auto belt after a year. 2 cranks of the bolt with my wrench did the job. Just ran 200 miles on vacation & so far so good! Best of luck!
Mine doesn’t have ac compressor it’s a 1999 and my power steering belt shredded off and I’m wondering if I can still drive it like that because it’s my work truck
Dont take my word but maybe?? Never had that, and its a different year and all. Good Luck & keep us posted. Alot of good guys here to help...
Get the Nissan Belt if all else fails like me & many others had to do.
👍And the Music is Awesome too. Could you throw in a few Names of Songs and Artists. GREAT TASTE IN MUSIC!👍🎵
Yes I can. Those are UA-cam music tunes. Tiptoe out the back, and Tidal wave by Silent Partner. Rock On My Man!!!
I bought a new pulley for the bottom of the ac belt, smoke starts to come out after install when I turn on ac,I got just the pulley itself would I need to get the one with the hardware?
Wow! Is the belt slipping on the pulley? or is the pulley not spinning?
The pulley bolt also locks the tension bar, maybe somehow it is squeezing the pulley, and it cant spin? Wish I was there to see...
At first the pulley wasn’t moving so I backed off the bolt a little and it started to spin but still smoke would come out, I noticed the old hardware is rubbing with the bracket of the pulley because I also installed a new one on top of the first belt and there is some clearance and there is no smoke nor squeaks
@@392JO is it the pulley /belt or the ac magnetic clutch? I also have a video on tightening specs pls check that. Hope you can subscribe to my channel for more repair videos coming soon
It's insane how all these trucks make all the same squeaks and squalls.... My 04 I've fought and fought. Factory Nissan oem belts and parts are the only solution. Napa
Gotta love em...cause.... Ya cant kill em
Man. Thiught i only had 2 belts 😂 now I have to go get another
sorry to give you this bad news. you can do it!!!
My bolt was missing when I got the truck, can you tell me what to get?
Im away from my shop now but will guess 10 mm. Got it at corner hardware store. Will get back to you asap. Which bolt? The length varied on them...
The one for the a/c tension.
And thanks for the video! And the reply!
My ac tensioner bolt has a shank 2 " long & measured about 8mm. Bolt head 14mm. A longer shank would be ok too. If i find a gauge i will measure it better & threads per inch. Hope this helps.
Thanks! I appreciate ya!
the bracket in the middle of the screen at 1:47 serves no purpose. remove it. especially since doing so enables you access to the thermostat.
I see what you are saying. These things are overbuilt. Thats why mine's still on the road.
Anyone have a video on the removal and replace mint on a 2001 Nissan frontier power steering belt?
Only know 2002 but I will ask the intelligentsia if its different. Tks for writing.
