i love that at this point, the camera crew is clearly part of the office because they're literally just as involved in the office tea as everyone else 🤣
@@Number0neSon Dinner party scene/episode is THE best in Season 4, I always laugh and have tears because I am laughing so much Lol it's a great episode brilliant writing and acting by all the actors especially Steve and John.
The show has three eras 1-3 which are defined by Jim and Pam's love triangle, which is the most realistic. 4-7 focuses on growing Michael and developing his character and then 8-9 which is the post-Michael Scott era. The comedy becomes more silly with each era.
This season is amazing - sorry Chris, the reality is that a good portion of the season was written before the strike started... this season debuted on Sept 27th, 2007, but the strike started over a month later, on November 5th 2007. Most of the effects of the strike occurred later on network shows, resulting in truncated seasons for some series.
honestly im truly baffled by how they feel it's less grounded. granted i watched the UK office so this show was never as grounded as that one but even in the previous season, michael staged a suicide attempt, they let andy float off during beach games, and michael had various talking heads that was just protracted nonsensical rambling (like him talking about how his mother kissed his ass) so this religion stuff is hardly new. i wonder if there's some confirmation bias because they already went in thinking the episode were affected by the writer's strike. the later seasons are truly less grounded, to say the least.
there's no jim and pam tension so it's missing a storyline. this season is just getting it's footing and you will figure out the main story of this season soon.
A little interesting that you guys feel the show is a bit different than before because it’s still much more grounded compared to later seasons barring one scene that’s coming up shortly. However this season also has the most acclaimed episode of the series and some of the later episodes are very strong too. And in general it’s a bit more mature and slightly darker.
Come on man, "mature and dark" are meaningless buzzwords, especially when it's about a sitcom like The Office. Season 4 is just really bad and unfunny compared to 1-3.
Wait wait, i've seen the whole show but I can't remember what episode you're on about which the most acclaimed one? And also what is the not grounded scene that's coming up? Can you put it in code so there's no spoilers? lol Edit: is the acclaimed episode the dinner party one?
Speaking as someone who has watched this show like 10 times, I think every season that comes after season 4 is worse. So if you think season 4 is bad, then I guess you think the whole show is below average.
The first 6 episodes of this season where finished before the 08 strike. So that isn’t having any effect on these episodes. I do think seeing this as two separate episodes, instead of one hour long episode, as I was intended, hurts the momentum so the episode. You have to remember that season 4 starts most of the lead characters in a different place than they where in the 1st three seasons. Jim and Pam are a couple. Michael and Jan are together. Ryan is at corporate and Dwight and Angela are changing their relationship. So the slot of the first part of this episode is re-establishing where the characters are for the audience.
Loving these reactions. I feel like I should point out that the writers’ strike was responsible for making season 4 shorter than the others, but not the change in tone. The strike didn’t happen until 12 eps had been filmed. During the 4-month long strike, no new eps of any kind could be produced. So the other things you’re noticing about season 4-different vibe, double-length episodes, etc.-is a separate piece to the strike itself.
The doc crew being a character in and of themselves is something I always appreciated about this show. I wish Parks and Rec did it more often. (And I love how they do it in What We Do In The Shadows)
Absolute bonkers! That scene of Pam telling Michael the right distance of the marathon (5 km., not 5,000 miles) was hilarious! 😂😂😂 Looking forward to the next episode! Another fun reaction as usual Normies!
I was laughing along with them this whole episode 😂 Re: their discussion at the end, from my POV as a Normies viewer, I feel like it can sometimes take awhile to really fall in love with these characters and “get” some of the humor, and I feel like this crew has been laughing way more throughout S3 and even these two S4 episodes than they did during 1 and 2. (I laughed more and cringed less during my S2 rewatches vs my first time since I knew the characters so much better.) So long story short, I know S4 is a awkward at times due to the hour-long writer’s strike episodes, but I found the Normies’ reaction as enjoyable as always :)
9:23 It took me a while to get why Dwight's explanation was "It's okay, I'm robbing her!", but it eventually clicked that even in this situation he didn't want to embarass her in public. That was his klutzy way of trying to make her actions look reasonable to bystanders.
Around 8:20, the throat muscle spasms are painful. So people become afraid of swallowing, to an extent that just looking at water is a trigger. BTW the person becomes irrational, then dies. Once symptoms appear, 100% of cases are fatal, to this day.
Poor Micky 😂😂 Anyway I hope you change your minds as the season goes on but if not, it's ok too. They can't all be winners for everyone. I will still enjoy your reactions/thoughts even if you're dissing the show. 😁
The legend of Suraj dusting Chris in the first Normie-con race just keeps getting more and more built up. At this point, we need proof that Suraj wasn’t juicing before the race 😂
Y’all definitely have a point. This season is the start of a shift in the show. Things get a little more ridiculous, but I personally didn’t start having an issue with this until season 6, I believe. Oh! And the longer runtime - I did wonder if the writers made any adjustments in preparation for this or just experimented. That said, it’s a great season with some standout episodes; one in particular is arguably the show’s best/funniest.
Rabies doesn't just prevent you from swallowing, but hydrophobia is actually one of the symptoms, they literally can't even try to drink because their body suffers a panic reaction. You can find videos of rabies patients trying to drink and they can't even get the cup near their mouth. It's honestly horrifying, especially when you know that once you're presenting symptoms there are no treatment options, you're going to die.
Dwight isn't autistic, he's just really stupid. He's from the countryside and spent time with his family and cousins and siblings and didn't have to learn how to read facial cues or pick up social skills which is how he's the PERFECT patsy for Jim to prank
I honestly think splitting this one episode into two hurts it. This is one of my favorite episodes and it just doesnt hit the same split into two. But worry not theres alot of good to come.
Nah Chris, the internet won't hate you. When this season was airing the fans were pretty split for a while. I remember following the subreddit from S3 to Michael's exit. I think Season 4's extended episodes kind of hurt the pacing.
I think the fact they know there was a writer's strike and now there's 2 part episodes they already have a bias. Also I feel with group reactions 1 person speaks on something and the rest of the group follow.
Eh, it's got a tone difference, yes but in retrospect to the rest of the series as a repeat watcher, it's nothing off at all. Also, remember you've watched ONE episode of the season, not two. And they will go back to being regular-sized episodes after two or three more of these.
LMAO. My headcanon is that the reason Suraj is so good at races/running (sorry Chris) is from osmosis - all the rewatches of LOST, where all those characters seem to do is run up and down that damn island. It's turned his body into a fricken' running machine.
But it's called "Fun Run" when part 1 didn't involve running at all. It was obviously meant as 1 episode originally. And on Netflix it's 1 episode, just a longer that ususal one.
Idk whether or not to blame Michael's awful performance on his stupidity or just not being in good shape. Every decision he made, in preparation for & during the race, was the wrong one. Pam & Jim, literally, walk the entire race, & had time to browse an estate sale ...but somehow the 3 of them cross the finish together...only Michael🙄🙄🙄

You missed it in the reaction, but Michael telling the stripper “Very cool you went back and got your degree” makes me crack up every time
Yes. Michael’s offhanded comments often make me laugh the most!
Spidey got it
i love that at this point, the camera crew is clearly part of the office because they're literally just as involved in the office tea as everyone else 🤣
Hold on to that thought
If you listen to the Office Ladies podcast they mention they are practically the unseen unheard characters of the office.
Everyday they slowly but surely get closer to THE DINNER PARTY. Oh boy the time is almost upon us. I have been patient and season 4 is finally here
If they watched it in two episodes it won't even be worth watching imo
@@Noctis2525 what do you mean two episodes?
@@Noctis2525fun run was a two part episode. They haven’t just decided to split each episode in half

I’ve been waiting for this moment!

One of the best parts of the show for me

"You don't know me. You've just seen my penis" has to be one of the greatest Office quotes ever!

No, season 4 is unfunny, drawn-out garbage compared to 1-3. This episode perfectly captures that.
Real bit of a placebo effect, I think the main thing is the pacing feels off with it being a two parter
This episode sucked tho
Lost season 4 and Breaking Bad were affected by the same strike
I couldn't agree less. I think the 4th season is one of my favorite seasons. Anxiously waiting for the dinner party.
My wife and I quote the "Look how happy he is" all the time when one of us is grinning about something silly.
They must have laughed so much after each scene they had together. Best friends playing enemies must have been incredible.

Rabies does cause a fear of water. Or to be more specific it causes a fear of swallowing which is made particularly worse with water

i love that you researched the thing with rabies and fear of water. saved me having to look it up lol !
The fear of water joke is because rabies used to be called hydrophobia because people though it caused a fear of water.
