- Ruger 457 - Colt old army replica - Ruger 45 Black Powder
This is the Ruger .457 Ruger Old Army. It was manufactured from 1972 to 2008 and is a black powder muzzle loading revolver utilising a cap and ball system with 6 shots. I've never shot black powder before and this certainly was an experience not to forget.
I hope you enjoyed seeing this revolver shoot as much as I enjoyed shooting this thing, it was an awesome bit of kit (although, not quite a sharpshooter that's for sure!).

The Ruger Old Army took a lot of inspiration from a few different revolvers: Colt Single Action Army, Remington New Model Army, Spiller & Burr M1861. Solid pistol and nice shooting!

Beautiful black powder revolver. With a loading lever to load the cylinder. And by using paper cartridges. The double wide rolling paper makes for two paper cartridges. Use Cream Of Wheat for filler. It makes it easier and more fun. Peace
You forgot to mention that black powder needs to be compressed in each chamber by the ball or bullet and some sort of lubricant or lubricated wad placed over the ball or bullet to help lube the barrel, keep the fouling soft and minimize the chance of chain fires! Other than that you did a good job!
I use crisco and just cake it over each chamber. Keeps the bore pretty clean. Those brass frames suck though and I constantly have to clean under the hammer.
Very nice pistol, I have one exactly the same but only use real black powder, our club allows use and its sooo much better:) If that shooting is at 25yds you should be proud, good shooting:)
The Ruger Old Army was based on the Ruger Black Hawk, which was in turn based on the Remington 1858 New Army. It's got nothing to do with Colt.
It's similar too a Whitney design.

Actually it's more complicated. Ruger Old army is based on Ruger Blackhawk which is based on Colt SAA. But Colt SAA with its closed frame indeed is based on Remington New Model Army 1858. Thats my opinion of course
I own both a Ruger Blackhawk (plus a Superblackhawk) and an 1858 Army Remington. Those two makes of guns share absolutely nothing in common. You have no idea what your talking about.
Are you allowed to own guns like this in the UK?
Yes, kind of.. Black powder revolvers fall under a section 1 firearm which means they need to be put on your firearms license in order to shoot it, like here I am at the range.
NOT as Colt Single Action Army. Not even close. What you have is a Ruger Old Army, a very different gun entirely. This is about what I expect from the UK on the subject of guns though,

Have you been shooting in the UK? We have some really good ranges here and some very nice guns. Oh,,, and the Ruger old army 45 IS a very nice gun and very collectable even in the USA!!
