In this episode, we explore a creepy asylum in Italy that was overgrown by vegetation. Filled with old files and medical equipment, it made of an interesting exploration. After WWII, a large massacre happened in this hospital. The amount suffering that happened here hard to comprehend.

How do you guys not have millions of subs? No fake enthusiasm, no clickbait, no stupid pointless drama, and always coming with the history of the sites. The narratives are also very professional, straight to the point telling the viewer what they need to know at that point, with no extra BS stuck in there. And no pointless cinematic crap.
Compared to others this is a wonderfully done, professional production, everything we need to enjoy these spots and nothing we don't.
You said it sparky!
I think the youtube overlords suppress them. IIRC, all of their stuff is demonitized.
Its odd why some people don't see ad's, I keep getting some pop ups on their videos.
sparkplug1018 pc and laptops can run ad blockers
Of course, but when someone says it is demonetized, I tend to think of UA-cam being their usual selves and just not running ad's at all, because reasons I guess.
Love abandoned mental hospitals. It blows my mind how much stuff is left behind. Plus I love the fact that it's all natural decay and not one graffiti on anything.
Agreed. I am also facsinated by them because I love Imagining what they were like In their prime, who the patients were, why they were there and where they are now. Not some edgy teen with a BS UA-cam persona who just wants to be cool, when you think about It It's actually Interesting.
I love the fact that it's all natural decay and anything.
did you notice, all the clocks stopped at the same time? must have been on a synced master clock system.
I'm a bit late to the party, but those kind of clocks are synced because they are all powered by the same line.
This means when the power got cut off they all stopped working.
If you noticed, they lay flush on the wall, since they have no batteries to change.
Yep...
@@micheledamian8671 same thought...
No just hard wired into the electricity, which was shut down at the same time (obviously).
@@micheledamian8671 you mean a master clock.
It is so refreshing to see a facility abandoned for more then 18 year so intact with door and window glass in place just as it was in the day. No tagging no meaningless destruction. We could learn a lot from how much respect these people show. Bravo! Great video.
Other idea: the lack of tagging and destruction could be due to the fact that there is still a building close by that is occupied and used daily.
@@quinncarnahan454 that doesn't make any sense🤔🤔
Vincent Seria in the beginning of the video, it was stated that at least one if the buildings was still occupied and in use. Having people still on the property helps keep vandals away. What doesn't make sense about that?
@@quinncarnahan454 oh sorry I read that totally wrong
True but given the many years it's been unoccupied and the fact that people have been through the site and that spray painting is relatively quiet form of of vandalism it is surprising and appreciated that it hasn't occurred.
6:42 is that a fockin vintage croc?
Lmaoooo 💀
Yes it is
Those things have been around in Italy forever. Crocs are just a colorful and more “appealing” version of shoes that kids wear to the beach or pharmacist footwear back there. I had a pair of clear ones that made my feet look so weird. 😝

WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOSE
That old bottle of ether was so cool. However it’s terrifying to imagine the procedures performed on patients using that anesthetic. That chemical might have been used to keep people calm while the staff poked around their brains 😳
It wasn't uncommon to have restrooms near the projection room. I know this is not a cinema but before digital cinema came around, to avoid any missed start times and catch errors in time, the projectionist had their own restroom upstairs. I used to work at 2 movie theatres in the early 2000's and remember never seeing the daylight when I worked double shifts.
We even have one in our modern theatre's projection room.
I study psychology and my main interests are clinical and mental health psychology and I swear if I was there I could not stop myself from going through all the documents and papers and stuff
They are in Italian though. Do you know Italian?
@@anirbanmallick8502 Pictures to translate after. It would be a lot of work, but it would be a great rig for understanding things

Band aids? They need a lot more than that

It's nice that there is a worldwide community that want to work together to put out great content.
Did anyone else notice the chests on the X-rays were freakishly skinny? Either the patient was severely anorexic or they weren't fed properly in the hospital.
Edit: or they had some sort of problem with eating, like not being able to chew or keep food inside without puking.
It could also be an eating disorder, knowing that they were locked up in the asylums for this too

I think one of my favorite qualities about you guys is how just... right into it everything you guys get. Short intro, short advertising, looonnngggg exploration, topped off with quick outro. I love the formatting of you guys' videos. Thank you for being real
"Are you afraid you'll end up in a mental asylum if anyone finds out what you've been searching online?"
*has been temporarily hospitalized over 18 times in the past 3 years*
Me: "but they have hot pockets and juice!"
Oh I'm sorry. hope you are doing well
Absolutely unbelievable footage. Those shots were flawless! Thank you so much for all you do. #properpeople4life
"And here we have a chair.... contemplating its life... and all of the decisions that brought it to this point."
Never related so much to a chair in my entire life lol
aka 'a chair just chillin'
A retiring chair ( but it's supposedly hunted and moving on it's own ) but it's just want some peace
This was an extraordinary explore guys...and that opening shot in the theatre was seriously stunning. To see this much natural decay with no graffiti is a real pleasure...there are so many textures to the breakdown process and each is beautiful in its way. You did a LOT of really interesting frames and stills in this complex, one of the things I really appreciate about your work. I particularly enjoyed the spiderweb, the window reflection in the bathtub, and your angle from the top of the spiral staircase. It was very amusing as you all trained your cameras on poor Tobi while he translated. Thank you for sharing this...as always, it is brilliant.🖤🇨🇦
great to see clean walls. graffiti is so uncalled for.
the mosquitos scared everyone away
“Clean” walls 😄
I mean really clean walls most called for to tag
Agree I hate Graffiti
I like to see good tags not some bozo walking around with a spray can paint male genitalia all over the place
For anyone curious, that monitor is an IBM PS/2 SVGA monitor, and is the same one that is used in the 'old Aperture' sections of Portal 2!
umm ok (*rapid blinking & fantods*)
Amazing. I'm Italian - let me know if you want anything in this translated. 19:36 looks like poor Davide (age 7) was written up for a mumps infection! Though I'd feel remiss if I didn't add - showing medical records for fairly recent (80s, 90s) patients is maybe not a great idea. Perhaps obscure the names next time? Love the channel!
Spag The Maker agreed.
Spag The Maker they may not be aware that it contains sensitive medical information. They never show that kind of info on their other videos to protect people’s privacy. It was likely not done intentionally.
They could have also meant to blur it out, but missed it in editing.
Farlo 🗿
It's Italian so not that great readable for non Italian people. I think it is so bad that all those documents are laying around there..
You guys are my favorite explorers. I love the intro music! Your speech and grammar is professional , unlike some other explorers who's narration is childlike and insulting. Keep up the good work.. Peace
Also not over dramatic or over produced, just the history of the location and its natural beauty. How a certain other explorer has over 3M subs and these guys don't is a crime.
sparkplug , You hit that nail right on the head.
17:50 That's a web made by a spider with schizophrenia.
That's a cool looking web the spooder is a talented one
You guys should go all gloved up and covered up to places like these, getting fully suited up is overkill and not realistic in that weather but minimum body protection is a must
yeah... :/
There is at least one of these comments on every video, and while I agree it seems the Proper People guys don't. Unfortunately I fear it will take a serious accident or scare before they see sense and actually get some decent PPE
@@homosexualpanic Maybe if enough people say it they will notice.
I cringe sometimes seeing these guys walking around decaying buildings with the ceiling falling apart with nothing to protect their heads. Walking around old industrial buildings and hospitals with no gloves or mask. Going to places with glass and metal on the floor everywhere just wearing regular shoes/boots.
@@criticalfayle7509 Yea, they're very under prepared.

Me: okay
Tittle: Filled with old stuff!
Me: who would've thought
3:51 "There's still film in it."
- "No way, for REEL?" XD
I felt itchy the whole time watching this.
If you can't handle the itch then get out of the mental hospital jk idk.
That syringe at 16:00 next to the anaesthetic looks rather clean and modern compared to everything else on the table. Awesome job guys and amazing footage.
The serenity and beauty of this place is absolutely fantastic. All the overgrown vegetation is simply peaceful.
I love coming home from work, opening up a cold beer and seeing a new proper people video. Great way to start the weekend. Keep up the great work.
Out of all the places you fellas have explored this I find is the most interesting of them all.
6:44- Is that a croc?
Would love to read all those files 😬
This is Ospedale Psichiatrico di Volterra for anyone who's wondering
Ahh you mentioned Bioshock! My entire love for urbex and abandoned buildings is Bioshock! Best game of all time
17:50 for some reason made me think of the spiders on drugs video
Next time you go to a mosquito filled placed bring some repellent or raid
Oh we did. We were doused in repellent.
We use these sort of citronella candles, work perfect against mosquitos, they also have it in spray form. Best thing about is is that is smells like lemons!
@@TheProperPeople damn better bring 2 cans of raid just to spray the air
The Proper People Drier sheets works good to, Just rub them all over ya and they should leave you alone
So you guys enter a place that you KNOW has a ton of mosquitos that could hospitalize you... and you walk in with short sleeves and no protective gear of any kind?
This reminds me of a game I played called "The Town of Light".
Even abandoned, that place is beautiful, there’s a lot of nice Italian design out there and this places is no exception. Great explore, thanks! I loved the cardex, before computers, that was one way of keeping records.
Crazy that I’ve been watching you for like 1 1/2 years.. who else has been here for a while
Crazyyyyy
This channel deserves 1 million + subscribers.
So does your mum.
These places are so cool, and the way you video tape them is also very impressive. Keep doing what you're going! :) Loving it
This has to be one of my favorites so far. You guys just keep getting better and better. It’s so neat to be able to see the different places from around the world. Keep it up you guys are awesome!
The "rabbit complement" box was pretty cool....HLA typing (which is what that would be used for) is done before organ transplants are performed, to make sure the donor and recipient are a match.
Once again you have excelled! I always enjoy watching your explorations, and this one was outstanding. You never disturb anything that should not be disturbed. You show respect to the property. Your dialog is decent and not full of expletives and repetitive comments like some other explorers I have watched. Well done, and thank you for sharing.
Those little dome lights look a lot like security cameras!
Max yes
Perfect! I love hospitals and asylums. This is by far the best asylum explore I've watched. Thanks!
I think it is amazing seeing you guys with other guys from Germany and Italy helping one another exploring the asylum it is great to know that we all can get along. Great explore that place is a gem x
I love watching your videos. I don't know if you guys read through all of your comments, but you guys are always so respectful and knowledgeable about the buildings you're exploring and documenting. I've seen far too many "explorers" who just touch and move everything and break things. It's good to see people respect the building and it's history.
i love your channel. your keeping it real, no fake stories. you are preserving the history in your vids which is the reason that i started watching this types of vids in the first place. thank you
The wonder and amazement of your videos is a really magical force. I am generally a really busy person and don't dedicate much time to watching videos, but with these I actually am able to turn off my brain, sit back, shut off the lights to enhance the atmosphere, and simply enjoy the whole episode in peace. I always get excited when a new video comes out. Very high quality production as usual and I hope you guys continue your amazing work!
Thank you guys for going there! You get better with each new video keep up the good work!
Loved this video!! Thank you guys for doing what y'all are doing!! Can't wait for the next!!
Glad to see you are still exploring with the BTW crew! They always have quality videos! Thank You
Not chairs but a lot of wheelchairs, do you think heavy sedation for less trouble?
UncleDave
best exploration channel around, no BS, great camera work, long still shots that allow the viewer to absorb everything in frame. well done.
Awesome vid! I love the beginning its like a TV show
I've been there and you guys did a great job with documenting this place Great video!
I have been watching you guys for some time. Your work just keeps getting better and better!
Anybody else notice that the clocks we're all stopped at or around the same time, 8:45-9 o'clock??
Danella Cullen I need to go back now and see! That’s so eerie!!
@@itschelseakay right!! The one they show at the end of the video, is the *ONLY* one that isn't around the same time as the rest... 😱
@@RahkaSaatana clocks are battery ran and each clock isn't the EXACT same time, they're ranging between a 20min window between 8 and 9??
@@RahkaSaatana I guess there's no way to be 100% sure, but you'd think they'd be the exact same time if that were the case though (not batteries) since clocks need to be as accurate as possible in a hospital i.e. scheduled meds, scheduled surgeries, TOD/TOB etc. That's what made me question it though... they aren't the exact same times, as they're about 20 mins off between each other, but the hours are the same. I dunno I just thought it was odd, like as in... What if that was the time, the massacre occurred?? That would be some unsettling stuff!!
They were almost certainly powered by AC mains, i.e. these are synchronous electric clocks. However the apparent shift may have been caused by the removal of individual fuses from the fuses boxes, hence some clocks continued to run a bit longer than others, and not by an abrupt power cut to the facility.
I love your videos! I like that you provide a little bit of history about the place your exploring.
this reminds me of the asylum in American Horror Story🤣
It's amazing how buildings such as this abandoned and left it to rot but my question for the explorers - are they aware of possible health problems such as asbestos, toxic molds? You may be feeling okay for now but is there possible long term consequences that comes with it afterwards/much later?
Ah, Saturday afternoon in Australia and another video from The Proper People. Enjoying your Europe explores and the frequency of the uploads to the channel.
i love that in your videos you give some history behind the place your visiting it makes the videos even more watchable thank you
I don't know if it's me but my eyes hurt watching the good quality like damn
You got to give it to the Italians, they don't destroy and graffiti everything in site.
Unfortunately it's not like this. Lot of places completely ruined by graffiti. There aren't many places still in good conditions.
That's an exception, if you go into or near a town with illegal immigrants you'll see
Italy is full of untouched places like this
We should learn from the Italians!
Yep. I'm Italian myself actually.
Thermacell is excellent for keeping the mosquitoes away. There are also very effective odorless Icadrine based repellents that are safe for animals and humans as well (Effol horse+rider, if you happen to visit Europe again some day).
The projector lamp chamber around 04:00 looked like it was from Cinemeccanica Victoria 4, carbon rod holders and chimney all there - and asbestos insulated cables - good that you didn't mess with them.
The MiniVolt Machine was likely meant for Electroshock Therapy. It's still in use in the USA, same with Lobotomies. This video was oddly sad to me. Great video, thanks for sharing it.
It looks some kind of heater device...
I would have liked more info on that machine, too. I wish at least I could have seen the name brand, unless MINIVOLT is the brand name (I can't find anything when I look it up). I would have looked for a plate with a manufacture's name and done research on it. Really, a lot of stuff I try to look up information on. I'm a curious fellow.
Greetings from Italy. Well there seem to be a "Minivolt" company, located in Rome. They sell laboratory equipment, so I guess it's their stuff... Obviously the site now shows all new equipment. I had no luck too searching for that old thing on the net...
Actually lobotomies were banned quite a long time ago if I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong though.
In America, they are legally Banned, but they are still performed by a few quack " doctors ". Same with Electro-Shock Therapy. If you are not familiar with that one, Shock Therapy is where they induce a Grand maul Seizure in the brain in a controlled manner. It doesn't work. Neither of these ever worked. Thankfully Lobotomies are rare in the US, but they do occur.
These videos are absolute amazing! Keep it up guys! I absolutely love these
I come for the exploration, stay for the beautiful cinematic shots 👍🏻 brilliant work
This was an amazing upload but oh my goodness! All those mosquitoes! I personally tend to get bitten the most and have really quite severe allergic reactions. Not enough to warrant an epi-pen just yet but if one bit me on my neck I’d be rather worried about the swelling and my airways. I once had a bite on my index finger that made my hand and forearm swell up so massively that I almost had to have the skin cut open to relive the pressure. It was agony. Now when I go places outdoors, I put on three layers of roll on mosquito repellent directly on the skin, layer my clothing with 5 layers of spray and use pulse point wristbands to keep them away. I have as little skin on show as possible. Worked pretty well so far. Only time I’ve been bitten using that method is when I forgot to do my feet and boots and one managed to get me on my foot 🤷🏻♀️ Don’t even get me started on horsefly bites 😬😂
There's a really cool indie game located in this asylum.
It's called The Town of Light and it's made by a team of Italian developers and artists.
Really really cool, creepy and also very sad.
Ugh I love the theme song. It’s so haunting and beautiful like the places you guys visit ❤️ much love ! Please explore Rochester’s abandoned subway before it’s completely demolished
Have you ever had to pee during a investigation.
Lmfao wtf kinda question is this😂
That's a damn good question 😂
I was seriously just thinking about this. They're guys tho so it wouldn't be that big of an issue i feel
In one of their episodes, they ended up using some of the toilets. I forgot which one, but I think it was one where the power and water was still on.
That’s a reason to wear a very good diaper
Professional, creative, honest, and skillful as usual. I’m glad to see the Italy trip😊. ‘Hi’ from BWT 😉 and thanks for the fabulous experience through your lens.
Also you guys make these videos with such a feeling for it. You don't modify the experience or add anything fake or any attitude to it, you're just cool with it. I also like the technical analysis and qualified guesses, "It has some inertia" "1/8 inch thick". It would be fun to see these videos with commentary by people who used to work at these places.
RIP to all the patients who spend their lives here while getting tortured.
This episode brought to you by OFF mosquito spray
16:07 - A bottle of ethyl ether, a volatile anesthetic.
i love watching these videos keep up the good work!
Probably one of your best videos. The fact that there was no graffiti in there is mind blowing. What a time capsule
After seeing many of these old places where you can still see the beauty of them. I can't help but wonder what they looked like in their prime.
The hell is up with the "Rabbit Sample"??? I mean... even at a psych hospital, I can't imagine too many scenarios where they'd need a sample of some kind of rabbit flesh or innards... odd.
Some doctor was getting their lunch paid for by their work, just need to defrost it.
lol
That was my question. Possibly psychiatric experiments? Human experiments in a psych hospital make sense and happened often but why they would bring animals to the hospital and not a proper lab is strange.
Rather than an actual rabbit, this is a serum known as a "rabbit complement". This is used to perform cytotoxicity studies on rabbits (cytotoxicity = cell toxicity).
Notice the reference to "HLA" on the container. Complement is used in medicine for stuff like tissue-typing.

Amazing place guys! So many classic CJC(chairs just chillin) shots. Love it. We were exploring up here in New England and I shouted "CJC" when I walked into an old air tower and saw one.
Glad to see something has gone well in Europe. Was getting worried after all the missed spots in the last few weeks.
Did this one make up for getting skunked all those times in Germany?
