It's one thing to call animal control when they thought the dog might have been abandoned, it's another when they realized that it likely belonged to someone homeless and still decided to call. It's actually pretty heartless and very self-righteous. Dogs that belong to the homeless aren't just automatically in poor health, and there are actually groups out there that will help homeless or lower income folks with their pets. They can also be very important to the mental health of the owner who is already struggling. They also clearly didn't think through, or just didn't care, about the safety of the owner because police don't typically treat homeless people with respect. And even when the owner is rightfully upset, Dan is in passenger seat being a complete dick escalating the situation. That doesn't even get into the fact that there is no guarantee, depending on the breed and the state, that the dog wouldn't just automatically be euthanized instead of being adopted out. This looked like a pit or pit mix, and that can be the case with the breed. The dog wasn't in immediate danger, and there are just better ways of handling the situation.
@@jsl4228 What if this person became homeless recently because of falling on hard times? Those dogs were his family and probably what helped keep him sane.
Do you know it's asbestos-filled? The dogs clearly had access to that gated portal with fresh air and sunlight. Maybe don't make generalisations based on shit you don't know jack about.
@@UnitSe7en Woah calm down. The dogs had access to the gate that was locked? Maybe it would have been better if they called a rescue organization rather than animal control. But that should be no condition for any dog to live in, no matter how long they stay there during the day. If you have the responsibility of owning a pet, you have the responsibility to care for it. They said it themselves in the video, the dog was drinking "moldy water". I agree with you, you shouldn't make generalizations based on things you don't know, and it would be very difficult to have your dogs taken away like that. I just wanted to share my own opinion.

I'm not defending vandals but guess what's going to happen to all that stuff someday? Right. When the building is renovated or demolished it's going to be smashed and destroyed and that includes parts of the structure. If I thought there was stuff worth saving I'd contact the owner and offer to buy it or take it off their hands.

very nice response to seeing the dog, not crowding it's space and recognizing scared dogs can react very quickly with "aggression". He's definitely a good boy dog. Those barks and growls are all fear and uncertainty based, not actual aggression. He's trying to be scary to avoid a fight. good of you to notice he wasn't actually that thin. underweight but not emaciated. I understand how hard it is to be homeless with pets. been there myself. but you did the right thing with the information you had. it's not your fault the system has failed homeless folk so completely and totally.
Having read the comments I see that some think this is likely a case of a person down on their luck taking care of three animals. People involved in animal rescue take a longer and harder look at the circumstances. Sometimes dogs are kept in out of the way places until they can be sold into dog fighting rings or they are used for breeding to sell online or on the street. Often times dogs stashed like this are used to promote an underground economy in dog fighting or selling puppies. Even street people take better care of their pets than this video suggested and I think the authorities will be able to determine the difference.
Yeah, if this were a case of a legitimate homeless man with his dogs he would have them with him 24/7 and they would be placid and playful, as homeless people, including men, will let themselves starve before having their dogs want for anything and to them, their dogs are their whole lives. The owners of the Building started with Guttman's in about 1930 Then they merged Braggers to become Bragger Guttman's Then Bragger Guttman's went out of business. Epstien's a local discount store moved in. Then the last store to work in that building was a bargain basement super discount store named YOUNG WORLD that sold dismally cheap things for young people and babies. The Newish elevators were installed when Epstien's used the building. The reason the elevator doors do not work is the doors and the ornate brass cross hatched gates were powered by steam. Much of downtown buildings in Baltimore use steam for heating. The elevator doors in Bragger Guttmans used stream under pressure to automatically open and close the doors. This allowed for ladies to run the huge elevators. Lady elevator operators saved the discount store money since they could be paid far less than male elevator operators. Also lady elevator operators gave the discount department store a more upscale look. Hutzler's and Stewerts employed lady elevator operators to suggest an upscale shopping experience. This store was a time capsule even before it closed. The newest thing installed by bragger Guttman's was that tiny set of escalators that went from the first to the fourth floor if my memory serves. I'm over 60 years old, autistic and disabled so my memory could be slightly faulty.

Damn, this literally hits close to home. I live a few miles away from the city, on the outskirts of Baltimore County. Baltimore (imo) is known for abandoned places in very poor condition. You always hear police sirens, car sirens, dogs, among other things. All common themes, including the abuse, neglect, and mistreatment of animals. Malnourished and nearly dead animals are common, along with homelessness of both man and animal. Its not Baltimore without the almost daily shootings and death and all the previously mentioned things. Shitty people who go WAY too far are common. And I get why most of the time. Now there are nice and beautiful places in Baltimore that do not have all this, but they're a longer drive and are harder to see from the perspective of a tourist. Thank you with all my heart for saving those babies. They came to you guys and you listened. Thank you thank you THANK YOU! I love pitbulls and it kills me seeing them in such bad condition and from no fault of their own. Animal Control was definitely the right call. I understand that man is homeless but that doesnt mean the dogs have to be in a dangerous location. Its an unfortunate situation but you definitely made the right choice. Edit: not sure if hes homeless because I forget tbh but it doesnt change my statement. Still bad living conditions for the animals. Its a awful situation for everyone so there probably isnt one right answer.
Yeah, but I feel that he doesn't have to bring the dogs down w/ him. There were 3 of them animal control said! They were living there for 2 yrs the homeless guy said. It's not right!!
They said they were in Baltimore and I was like "Oh that reminds me of Dan Bell." Then Dan Bell immediately appears and I literally dropped a nuke on the like button.
Just FYI: if those dogs belonged to a homeless man he would not have left them out of his sight unless he absolutely had to, for example if he had to go to the hospital and they didn't allow him to bring his dogs. Dogs are literally a homeless person's entire world and they will sacrifice literally everything to ensure their dogs want for nothing. A homeless person's dog(s) would be placid and/or playful, and either have an excellent attitude toward other humans or be so devoted to their humans that they cling to them at all times. I didn't see any of that behavior with that one dog you encountered or the other dogs that turned up once Animal Control came on the scene. Also, in Dan's video you see zero sign of any dogs so they couldn't have been there the two weeks prior that Dan had shot his own video of the abandoned building; the only thing that sounded even remotely like a dog was the squeaky sound of the gas valve in the basement area where he encountered the gas leak, nor did he remark about any dog feces (the only animal feces I think i spotted in said video was bird poop). You did the right thing in calling for Animal Welfare and I can only hope they placed those poor babies in better home environments. Even a homeless man would have been a better fit for those angels.
It's a bit a grey area to me. When the man was angry about his dogs be taken from him, it reminded me of that French homeless man whose dog was taken from him and cried while chasing the animal control, in the end though, he did got his dog back. On the other hand, this man's aggressive approach to Dan & co. made me think he was using the dog for illegal means, ei dog fights, given that stereotypically Pitbulls are use for those "sports" for monetary gain. I sure hope the latter is not the case. And although ignorant of danger the man does mean well for his dogs.
that’s so true! dogs often are the only friends and big emotional support for homeless people. i feel so sorry for the dog and i hope she/he is better now
I love the look of buildings that are in really really bad shape to the point where they really shouldn’t have electricity but yet they do lights on and everything with moulding wallpaper and decaying walls and collapsing ceilings all while the florescence are still flickering away
Just turning on one of those lights could burn that place to the ground, with all that water i'm surprized it hasn't just shorted and burst into flames on its own.
Yeah the dichotomy between the lifeless and decaying old building and electricity shining florescent light on a place long forgotten. I love that vibe but only a few urbexers can appreciate it and capture it, most don't even recognise it. The proper people, Dan Bell and maybe a couple more urbex chnnels get it completely and that's why they're the best in my opinion.
There have been some surprising places that still had electricity. Full 5 story hospitals and abandoned Nuclear Power Plants and Asylums that had been abandoned for 20+ years.
That was a cool find! I’m glad you had concerns for the dogs. I agree when it looks unsafe the authorities need to decide I can also understand the comments that in a pound they may not get adopted so it’s a difficult situation for everyone involved. I though wouldn’t of went back and said “I was the one who called”. I have had dogs as pets all my life and they were all cared for. We had someone call and say we abused a dog and the animal enforcement showed up and took our dog, photographed the place we kept him. We only had him 3 weeks. Later it turned out the person who called knew who surrendered him and they wanted it and called in and lied. We were cleared 100% and the two things I remember was the supervisor saying the report stated we left the dog alone without shelter and food tied to a leash but they found him in our converted family room (was a garage) with plenty of food water a bed couch and central heating and cooling and in our fenced in yard there was no tie out. He didn’t need it. Plus they had us sit in a room brought him in and he immediately ran up to us and wanted to play. We got him back had him for many many years. The caller got fined and community service. Small town we learned the rest of the story and of who it was.

Apparently we didn’t notice a trailer next to the school, where they had an on-site guard on duty ;) … With some tears and smooth talking, I was able to butter him up and stay out of trouble…he even invited us back to ride go-karts, lol. I don’t have the gonads to so this as an adult…too easy to get criminal trespass charges.

The old registers were the last models used before department stores moved to computerized inventory control price tags. (some may remember tags with holes punched with a series of sku numbers) That change over of systems happened in the late 1970s - early 1980s. Before IBM was the largest manufacturer of the new computerized registers, Singer (of sewing machine fame) was one of the first to mass manufacture computerized registers. Some of the oldest ones likely didn't go to $1,000.

@ 7:16, that skylight/window was amazing! That theater was probably really lovely in the beginning of it's life. I saw a great bittersweet documentary on Turner Classic Movies about the rise and fall of "movie houses" (theaters) in America, from their beginnings in the early 20th century, to their decline only a few decades later when television became huge in the 50's. It was very well done. They described how early movie theaters were designed to be as beautiful as possible, because they were all competing with eachother for business. They showed alot of old photography of what these buildings looked like in the past, visited some that still exist, some that have become other things, and even some that are still standing but have been abandoned and are decaying, much like your video. Old movie theaters were intended to be so grand that they would last for generations. So sad that so many have completely vanished, or left unloved to crumble away. Anyways, great video, as always!

Let's talk about how these people HAVE DA BALLS to go out there into these places knowing they could get arrested, hurt and maybe even die. Just so we can get entertainment! (Well it's entertainment for them too but it's super dangerous!)

@@lunaluna6474 Poor guy? Ummm how about don't have three dogs if you can't provide for them properly? Poor dogs!

That was my worry too, the dog we saw looked like a healthy pit bull, that's the main breed used for dog fighting rings
Yeah, if this were a case of a legitimate homeless man with his dogs he would have them with him 24/7 and they would be placid and playful, as homeless people, including men, will let themselves starve before having their dogs want for anything and to them, their dogs are their whole lives. The owners of the Building started with Guttman's in about 1930
Then they merged Braggers to become Bragger Guttman's
Then Bragger Guttman's went out of business.

Yeah, that's the theory I'm leaning on
As other people said; homeless people might be homeless, but if they have a pet they will do everything in their power to make sure its taken care of and loved
Him referring to it as a "storage bin" really doesn't rub me the right way
@@collinmclaren6608 Bring him in. Lock him up.
@@collinmclaren6608 Yeah I've been homeless and I agree, that's not how 99% of homeless people treat dogs. I remember "borrowing without asking" canned cat food when we ran out of money. We starved but the cat never did. People care about their pets. This guy talking about them like a piece of meat.
I couldn’t agree more. He was getting awfully defensive and offended that these guys called animal control. Obviously up to no good. Glad that they stepped up and said something. I’m hoping the police were called to investigate.
I worked as a cashier for four years at a retail store, and seeing those old registers was really awesome! They don’t compare to the beautiful and highly ornate antique cash registers that are 100+ years old, but they were still cool to see. 😁
Sadly, I'm thinking these were bait dogs for a dog fighting ring. They looked well fed and comfortable around people. The "owners" need to stash them away somewhere as they won't be noticed because they arent going to be alive much longer.
kind of big to be bait, usually the pitbulls are the ones doing the fighting. Maybe he got them from someone who didn't want them anymore and was bulking them up to fight?
bait dogs wouldn't be that healthy. They don't use healthy dogs for bait
@@GippyHappy Every Animal Planet reality show I've ever seen involving the practice they used weaker or old pitbulls as the bait. any pitbull that doesn't fight, or doesn't have the results they want... gets used as a bait dog.
@@StayMadNobodycares yeah healthy dogs like that aren't used as bait, it would be pointless to waste a potential fighting dog.
I've seen a rescued pitbull who was used as a bait dog, she was young and healthy and had had her face torn apart. They just need dogs that aren't fighters.
Im feeling very mixed about it, they might be the only thing he has :(
Yeah, but I feel that he doesn't have to bring the dogs down w/ him. There were 3 of them animal control said! They were living there for 2 yrs the homeless guy said. It's not right!!
Until you realize that those dogs were that homeless guy's only friends.
@@susan7204 I think its just a really tough situation for everyone...
The dude is not homeless.
They said they were in Baltimore and I was like "Oh that reminds me of Dan Bell."
Then Dan Bell immediately appears and I literally dropped a nuke on the like button.
Who is Dan Bell ??? First thing l thought of was the vacant in THE WIRE
@John Doe You're just mad you got fooled by that one movie he made. Let it go.
I saw that video too and was a little salty but I enjoy Another Dirty Room too much to be mad at him. They just put another video up today btw!
ThisIsDanBell is an alien. I would never turn my back on him. He'll eat you.
@John Doe What fake videos? All I see him doing is urban exploration and dirty hotel rooms
42:53 Bro took the dog piss thing so personally he just came out and straight up called him fat lol
I'm glad someone said this cause this is exactly what I was thinking.
Yup
It's a bit a grey area to me. When the man was angry about his dogs be taken from him, it reminded me of that French homeless man whose dog was taken from him and cried while chasing the animal control, in the end though, he did got his dog back. On the other hand, this man's aggressive approach to Dan & co. made me think he was using the dog for illegal means, ei dog fights, given that stereotypically Pitbulls are use for those "sports" for monetary gain. I sure hope the latter is not the case. And although ignorant of danger the man does mean well for his dogs.
that’s so true! dogs often are the only friends and big emotional support for homeless people. i feel so sorry for the dog and i hope she/he is better now
To be fair, I've met homeless that DO treat the animals like crap. That said, most don't.
I love the look of buildings that are in really really bad shape to the point where they really shouldn’t have electricity but yet they do lights on and everything with moulding wallpaper and decaying walls and collapsing ceilings all while the florescence are still flickering away
Most of them still has some electricity because there are still people going in and out checking on the place and doing work.
Just turning on one of those lights could burn that place to the ground, with all that water i'm surprized it hasn't just shorted and burst into flames on its own.
it can be fire hazard

Really cool old building. I’m glad you guys called someone about the dogs. Even if they belonged to that man that was no place for a dog to live.
If that man REALLY cared about his dogs' well-being; he would be glad they are going to a place with food and clean water. What an idiot. Dogs walk barefoot, one shard of broken glass or rusty nail in the paw could be life threatening. What a selfish prick. I'm sorry idc if he tried to care for them. He was never fit to do so in the first place.
'"Oh, I take care of the dog!!!!" Ok, Where were you when the animal control guy was removing the dog from the dangerous building?
If Animal Control comes they'll take the dog away and put him down
@@davidhenneberg2661 They'll put him in a shelter and give him a chance to be adopted. They don't just immediately euthanize every animal they pick up.
Two and a half years they’ve lived in squalor. Poor things. Paws are probably thickened from all the glass. Guy is clearly years of drug addiction and poverty himself, he doesn’t understand and refuses to learn, therefore take the dogs.
Totally agreed. No one should leave their dogs in general, especially in places like that. He's a total idiot, with that attitude also? I can only imagine... Poor dog.
I was shaking when the puppy showed up, not because he seems dangerous, but because there was no one around. That is not the way a dog should live, you guys did the right thing! I admire you guys for standing for the dog. Thank you for that.
I used to love exploring abandoned buildings as a kid. The last time I did anything like this, a friend and I explored an old abandoned school in Knoxville, where we noticed a dog tied up on a short leash outside the building. We had no idea it was a guard dog, so we let it go. it just followed us around the building, until 40 mins later we had a shotgun in our face!

I remember Woolworths and K-mart use to have NCR/Univac cash registers similar to those, with punch cards and paper tape punchers and readers for inventory control in the 70s as well.
Cool fact
Some of the wooden ones might be from the 20's.
@@tekvax01 Yes! I worked for Woolworths as a keypunch operator from 1971-1985, so am quite familiar with the punch hole coded inventory tape. Being one of the larger regional stores, we ran payroll on COBOL, meaning I could today get a job in New Jersey. Their unemployment still runs on COBAL in 2020. That being said, I've no desire to move back east from Montana at age 83. It's hard to believe the backwardness of our governmental systems. We used to be cutting edge, but no more!
I'm pretty old. I've used those registers, all except the wooden models!
The guy is getting mad yet hes letting dogs in a building like that its unsafe and not healthy for the dogs if he cant give them a proper home he shouldn’t be owning dogs, you did the right thing by calling animal control etc
Edit: i see people saying the man may be homeless etc but that doesnt excuse the fact that the animals are in a unhealthy situation its sad to get rid of a beloved pet but if you can’t provide for yourself you shouldn’t own another living being who needs alot of needs as well
Another thing is that they’re supposed to be Gaurd dogs but all they did was bark or walk away , where was the man if the “barks” were to alert him, the place probably has many entrances thus making the “gaurd” dogs useless and overall its still unhealthy and dangerous to keep a dog inside
Absolutely agree. If you cant properly care for an animal, you shouldn't have them.
Same goes for people who don't pick up after their pet when they shit on the lawn. If you are not going to care for it and clean up after it then do not have one. Absolutely no different than children.
Right. So they can just put em down..............
@@chaosdemonwolf1 True, calling animal shelters would be a good idea, if they'd actually do their job and care for animals. In my country, a lot of the government/donated money isn't spent on animals at all.
