I can honestly say this is the first concrete structure I have seen that doesn't feel like Brutalist Architecture. The ample glazing and tropical setting certainly help with that, but I do agree that the formwork and human scaling of the details really do create a warmth and hominess I have not experienced with other concrete buildings. And as a Californian, I certainly appreciate that it's also 99% wildfire proof! Well done team!
I don’t really resonate with the design here, but the fact that the children were involved in the construction is such a beautiful thing! As they said, this house would likely be not sold, and it will be a beautiful token to them and the future generations. Such a heartfelt idea! Absolutely love it.
What a love about this channel is to look at the beautiful locations in Australia and NZ. I visited in the early 2000s and was so impressed by the natural beauty and great quality of life. Also the photography of these videos are so well done. Top notch.
Wow I've never seen a home like this It's beautiful and it's unique The architecture and design is mind-blowing yet looks so cosy and comfortable. Loved it
Beautiful! Concrete is a lot harder than building with wood and achieving all the textures running throughout this home is spectacular. You hire an architect to design you a piece of artwork that you just so happen to live in.....
From the first few shoots I thought I never saw such fine exposed concrete in a home and then I realize the owner is an expert so ya, makes sense and you can see it. Amazing work all around.
I appreciate how solid it appears and am sure actually is. I would have opted for lighter and more colorful finishes instead of black and charcoal on painted walls and furnishings, but that may be because I'm losing my vision.
Black is such an interesting choice. It’s sometimes imposing, but when used tastefully like in this case, it feels very natural and fitting of the natural environment. Takes a skilled architect to really get it right and not feel like a “lair,” especially when it’s on a beachfront setting like in this case.
I adore this house, I love the larch wood effect done in concrete. I love you can see through the house from front door but still do not see full reveal of the house structure
I love the idea, the design and everything. I wish that instead of impressions of the inside there would be a whole tour throughout all the floors and rooms to get a much deeper understanding of the divisionion, structure and design!
Gorgeous building of course, though I would have thought a sand castle would need to look like an upside down bucket. And if I ever use this much board formed concrete, I'm going to plan to reuse the boards for a deck or shed the size of the house!
*0:50: really cool exterior... WOW into bedroom @0:53 (then see 1:54)*; ***2 interior shots from 1:27 are INSANE***; **staircase @1:41 is ILL (2 shots)... 3:17**; 1:47 open area v v nice; **2 shots from 1:50 are unreal (hallway to stairs)... mesh w/ 3:59**; 2:47 as a garage?; 2:54 another nice hallway idea; 3:34 really nice bdrm; **3:46 is PERFECT, but for where?**... to 3:57, then 4:28, but for what? **with 4:35 balcony transition**; 4:19 overhead opening is cool for common areas; 5:08: tree/exterior mix is well done... 5:28 too, but is that possible?;
Was this the concrete beach house built a few seasons ago on Grand Designs NZ? If not it feels very inspired by it. The textures inside are great. Would be dark on a normal grey NZ day. Great brutalist piece though!
Creating environments that were both functional and humane, focused not only on a building's appearance but how it would connect with and enrich the lives of those inside it. Moreover, at its core, his organic design philosophy states that architecture holds a relationship with its time and place. - - Frank Lloyd Wright
Whoever edits these! Beautiful homes, but I never have any conception of space or layout. The shots seem rather arbitrary, cycling without progression between outside, kitchen, bedroom, etc... I lose spacial sense, which is so deeply important in architecture. What does it feel like to move through this house? To experience it the way it is intended, as a guest would entering and taking a look around?
Wasn’t this house on Grand Designs?? He got concrete in his eye?? But luckily he still has sight. And his wife did the interior design and his son wants to be an architect but he hopes he becomes an engineer🌝😄
It doesn't look like a sand castle, but it's amazing what you did with the concrete. Please don't tell me you cut down any of those GORGEOUS trees to build there. Overall, it seems kind of "forced" into a place it doesn't belong and the interior seems like a maze you could easily get lost in.
I would love to see a more sustainable approach to many of the houses on this channel.. they are all beautiful designed but are often build of concrete. (5% of global co2 emissions are related to the concrete and cement industry
That's what I was thinking. That the co2 emissions for this single structure would be equivalent to how many 'normal' homes of conventional construction.
Lovely home, the concrete faux wood is perfect for that environment. I Can't understand why they dont put a few dollars into some landscaping, the fake sheets of grass is really tacky. Honestly, sand or dirt would make it look like a 'sandcastle', the faux just looks cheap.
I mostly like the house and the location is amazing. However, can someone please tell designers/developers that the hideous frosted glass garage doors look tacky with any style of house, never looked good with any style house, will never look good with anything but an entirely frosted glass house, and nobody wants that.
I feel the structure itself is a bit oversized and heavy; but what I really feel is off is the decor. Dark, dated in places, without much personality or individual feel, and with little relation to the environment and the style of the house.
Concrete House makes sense for lasting forever, look at the Flak Towers in Germany that it's massive thick walls just laughed at the Russians Biggest Howitzer Guns firing at it for hours, the Russians gave up on shooting at the Flak Tower 3.5 meter thick walls.
I was going to say, "No, it won't be fake. People don't do that there. There's no need to." But yeah, you're right. For a house worth (May '22) more than $8 million, that pretty lame.
a concrete box is a loooooooooooong way from an organic free lowing sand castle - have you never heard of Organic Futurism ???? even a traditional Mediterranean villa is more human and real ....
This is the best channel displaying architecture on UA-cam. Great work! Great attention to detail!
😍
I totally agree. I have to watch them all
The keep me focused on my ultimate goal of becoming an architect
I absolutely agree!
Check out "Design Seed" pretty good content as well

Inspiring. Like how the wood interiors mimic the wood formed cast concrete. Quite an achievement.

i always get so excited every time the local project does a feature on concrete houses!! they're just so beautiful.
The Local Project promotes the quality and good taste of the architectural act, without compromises. Thanks for that! :)
Our pleasure, thanks for noticing! 🙂
Wow I've never seen a home like this

You should see the construction of it on grand designs New Zealand I believe
Calm, cozy, warm, and welcoming. In my opinion, it's exactly what a home should consist of.
can only imagine the thought and precision it took to form all this up
Plz is anyone else mesmerized by this mans voice
This whole series and the creativity/ design within it brings me a sense of calm, wonderful.
beautiful use of materials. Building a partially poured concrete house in Mexico and this is inspiring. This house feels warm.
From the first few shoots I thought I never saw such fine exposed concrete in a home and then I realize the owner is an expert so ya, makes sense and you can see it. Amazing work all around.
What a sculptural masterpiece. Love it!

Shut up! I can’t take it.
One of the most beautiful homes I’ve seen
Love it. Amazing concrete workmanship 🌻
A very clever use of concrete, showing its material diversity. 😀
Beautiful!!! Surprisingly looks warm and inviting for being made of concrete. Well done☺️
Thanks Kelli
This is some of the most interesting uses of concrete I've seen!
Very well done - so almost perfect - but so big. Another minimalist here - so you know what their like... But yes a fabulous house.
I'm such a sucker for board form concrete. Such a sick look
I think this home was featured on Grand Designs, I watched it then and it's equally as mesmerizing now. Beautiful modernist home
Beautiful 🤩. UK 🏴
5:18 - First time I've seen spiderweb in these videos! The houses always look immaculately clean.
Stunning home.
Building concrete in Portugal for an artist house and farm. Always looking for inspiration and this place was cool.

Marvelous!
geometrically satisfying
This is a great design.

Awesome place
Excellent episode. Thanks Max.
Fantástica!😍😍
Spectacular!

Beautiful!
Gorgeous ❤️
Very nice home. Well done.
Banger
Fantastic!
Gorgeous brutalist home, I love it!
Love this house. Very cool and dramatic. Only thing I would change are those garage doors …. They look out of place and really ….suburban…
Each video is like a meditation. Calm music, attention to detail. But I'm missing the layout of the building. To get the full picture.)
I wish Local Project would put the location on each video. I never know if it’s in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or New Zealand
beautiful house, I like it
LOVELY
love this house 😍

Yes, it is indeed: GD NZ S02E01 "Concreteologist House"
Yes nice to see it again. Remember the owner nearly lost his eye.

So this is where Tyrell from Blade Runner lives......
These houses are great and all, but it would be great to see The Local Project cover architecture that isn't just for millionaires.
Ma sarap pang kamot ng likod yang concrete na yan ma ligas gas haha
5,200 sq feet, on almost a third of an acre.

As much as I love the natural look of concrete, I dislike it‘s massive environmental impact.
It's not that big

Everyone has their own preferences, that's what makes us different and diverse. You don't have to like it. Not everything will be made to your liking.

can you make video with less person talking in the video, just make their speech in the background, and more exploriing the residence
Like an oversized sauna
shouldn't sandcastles feel playful? this feels the opposite of playful.
