TOO FAST! Tri-Axel Dump-Truck Tailgate Spread OVERSHOOTS on gravel driveway

- The driver moved a little too fast! Luckily we had a skid steer on site to spread the rest or else we would have had a lot of wheelbarrow work to do! We spread everything evenly with the skidsteer, but you could rake it out if you wanted to.
Are you really complaining?........Any other company would've just dumped it in a single pile, it's not the driver's job to spread it for you.......
The title of this video is completely bogus! The driver didn't "OVERSHOOT" anything! I do a ton of gravel driveways and that's EXACTLY the way I would have wanted it dumped! He got most of it spread evenly and left a nice pile at the end for us to fill in any weak spots, then a quick grading and it's done. Go back to your cubicle and pay a pro to fix your driveway.
agreed mattywho, yeah pretty easy to do finish grade work with how the driver dumped the stone, its funny how the dude who ordered the load has that "whoops factor" thinking when he sees that he is about 5 tons over on his estimate, and hopes the truck driver can some how "miracle up something" to save the day!
That's crap. I make a living in a dump truck and I think he did a damn fine job.
Should have put it all in one big pile. Then bought an 18pack and Sat and watched you work your ass off spreading that heavy mess with a wheel barrow and a shovel.
You'd have been too tired to complain about the decent job he did.
I hope you tipped him.
guy gets paid to deliver stone, then delivers stone, i dont see the problem
I have several end dumps, if i saw my driver doing this i wouldn't even be concerned. If the customer wants it spread evenly and precisely he can rent more equipment. And more manpower. Friggin snowflakes think they have a soap box to preach on.
Good for you ! Thanks for treating your drivers right
I hear that
You couldn’t have done better. You can’t exactly see into the bed as you’re dumping to know how much you have left. This guy did great.
He could have reversed then driven forward.
Looks good to me. Should have just dumped a pile and let you move it all. If your gonna complain.
Betts Pools no doubt
in the uk no1 will spread it 1 pile then leave dont get paid to lay ot for you aswell as haul it
lee brookes the uk is a shithole id only go there to smash innocent british teens
Yass Beater wow how mature of you im so offended. bet you have an iq of 4 dumb ass.
lee brookes and a fucking potato can spell better than you dumbfuck
Im a contractor for 35 years and have heavy equipment. The driver did dam fine!!!! That home owner would have bitch no matter what. If driver went too slow then homeowner would have to still push stone around. Home owners don"t have a CLUE how crucial /sensitive the balance in speed running up the dump bed in ratio to forward movement. Its an art especially on different grades out of the gate speed.
John Haser absolutely. the funny ones are home owners who see that your not on a flat surface but just think you'll figure it out anyway 🙄
To all here lets add the SIZE in aggregate( stone) when you chain the gate and then blow it SIZE of stone also makes a BIG speed difference coming out the gate
Looks like a good job to me,, I use to spread drives when I was contracted to TILCON here in Ct.. Home owners & lazy contractors.. I do my best can't always be perfect/
why the BOLD letters. Do you even drive triaxle? No. Tired of you clowns thinking you know what its like to operate a triaxle. Funny thing is, you wouldn't even know how to get these trucks into the next gear let alone downshift one because of unsyncroed trans
shortthrow50 easy there Tex. It's just a dump truck. Not a rocket ship.
And yes I'm a driver.
shortthrow50 your right it looks good. the other reply to your comment are funny though. made me laugh
shortthrow50 Thank you!
Looks fine to me. I would complain more about the passenger side sideboard that some rambunctious cowboy trashed with a loader. Falls on the driver to fix it, and that gets real old.
BrandonPryorMusic you might be the driver of a one ton dump with a syncronized tranny. That dump in the video is an 8 speed. No it aint rocket science but it takes a certain set of skills to operate that dump truck and spread the gravel that uniformly.
LOL. Back up.
Yes...back into the pile and rip the mudflaps off.
He did just fine. There's no exact way to get it perfect. They have to grade it anyway.
not a bad job. ive been driving a tri axle dump for 13 years. only thing i would have done differently is when i got to the end of the driveway i would have thrown it into reverse and spread the rest backwards..
Darin Kelley Me Darin...lol
Then started to hop and start snapping axles
Start to hop and snap axles? I’ve dumped probably as many loads in reverse as I have forward and I’ve never once “snapped” an axle. These are big boy trucks not silverados. Backing over a little gravel isn’t gonna hurt a thing.
Here's a WILD WILD idea just start down with the bed upon approach of the end. But you armchair drivers seem to have been doing this longer than my 27 years.
Wouldn't that be kind of dangerous
Looks fine to me some drivers wouldn't do that
Dump trucks arent made to fine grade. This truck driver did just fine
Exactly
Did just fine
Not as easy as it looks. Not bad should of been letting his box down sooner or spread a little thicker.
well then why do they have gps you saying it's not like a grader?
not perfect job but bloody decent spread.
looks like a tight area to be working to.
@@davidsass7385 How many times have done that self. I have made hundreds of times. One load can put from 15 meters to 800 meters and on 15 it can be 14 or 16, because you cannot see how much load you have still. You can feel it little and hear how gravel goes on load. but exact ending is more luck than knowing.
He did a great job I know for sure I wouldn't done great at spreading gravel like that
I drive a tri-axle dump truck and dumping and spreading takes practice, you try to get it as close as you can, That's what skid loaders and shovels are for. This driver did fine.
well if you would NOT have orderd a FULL TRUCK LOAD maybe he would have made it WITHOUT MAKING A PILE, Boo hoo
Most drive ways flare at the road, allowing for turns, I would want extra there to spread by hand!
A man that has a thought LOL
Nothing wrong with that lay down, even the best of us will leave a pile at at least one end. If you don't want to shovel ANY gravel or base, don't order any.
You only leave piles if you dont start rolling before tripping or you stop to soon.
Damn good. A lot of drivers won't even bother to tailgate spread.
Looks to me like everything went fine except for the goober yelling amateur instructions at the professional driver. Sometimes you ought to just let a man do his job.
Ive done drove dumptrucks like this before, this driver done a fine job. Only a Nerd would post this, to complain. Next time order a spreader truck.
Driver could have lowered the bed before getting to the end of drive. Then clean off bed, lock gate, back up and start over.
I hate paying for water when I buy rock.
Fine spreading job.
Dan Daugherty .. They have to wet it. It's imported from China and is combustible when compressed in large quantities.
Major fire hazard.
I drove truck hauling gravel now I am a dozer operator. I would be more than happy if this guy was spreading stone for me on a job. Most of the time I tell the drivers to just dump it on the second round. Or I will tell them it is a great place to practice as I have the dozer and lots of time😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cascapediastjules As a contractor, I want the most efficient method to save time and wear and tear on my equipment. I wouldnt want you running a dozer for me. I lose money and soon you dont have a job either.
John Kidd some contractors are good to deliver to and others are stressed out doing every thing at the top of their voice and don't understand why they're getting crap service....
It's called a dump truck not a spread truck . That's what I tell people lol.
When I grow up I'm going to be a dump truck driver like y'all
Now here's Tonya Harding doing a Triple Axel....
Get a shovel
You're lucky ya didn't just get a big pile with you bumpy ass grade n all. They don't have to do that. If they turn that truck over, it on them.... not a bad job though 👍
Folks around here who deliver to homeowners, ask if it’s a driveway or what when gravel is ordered. Truck driver who shows up with my rock, I show them what I’d like to have, and say, “you know better’n I do, how bout doing it how you’d like it.” Ain’t nobody that I’ve paid to do something for me that I ain’t learned something from, and I’ve been operating for 50 years. And I always get a good job.
well...... thats about as good as it gets, you ordered the amount of lime stone he's just bringing it to you. Driver is only paid to haul it not spread it too! He's doing you a favor unless you kicked him a few extra bucks you have nothing to say about anything rite?
I would think he could have kept the box a little lower and backed up spreading in reverse when he reached the end of drive, but all in all good enough to make it easy for you and your guys to grade it in level, tell the driver thanks and pay him and dont be afraid to call him again! PS. hard to tell here in video but sure looks like tree branches very close to cab shield on box! LOL
I put it in a pile if they want it spread that's another fee for the bobcat. I removed the chains off the beds so don't have to worry about tailgating. Years ago had a guy pitch a fuss about some small piles refused to pay until it was fixed, and as everyone knows it's a courtesy to tailgate. Brought back my bobcat regraded the drive with a smile and it was last time I tailgated.
I would be more pissed at the 1,000 pounds of water you paid for than his spreading, and actually an experienced truck driver could spread a job without having to have it leveled, i do it every day.
the only thing I see is the r=drive way was to short, He spread just the way he should have , he did it better than a bunch of guys I have seen.
Mylan Miller ya I drive truck myself. those guys that ask you to spread rock expect it to be so pretty and perfect but I don't think he did too bad a job.
only thing that could be done differently or to those that think he messed up, is to of lengthened the chain on the gate so that the opening was wider so more stone came out faster and would of left little to no pile at the end of the driveway. otherwise I say damn good job by the driver
That was a really good job, he spread that perfectly
Title of video should be "Idiot homeowner expects miracles from mortals"
That's not his job, that's what graders are for, spreading is a courtesy OF the driver, just to show skill,if he SO desires, it's his call.
If ya had a skid steer anyway..... Good lord.
If I was that driver I would have just dumped it in a pile... Think I just lost 2:11 of my life watching this wasteless video.
In my opinion the dump truck driver did a great job . He could have backed up when he got to the end of the drive way and spread the load going backwards . It's all about communication between the client/ contractor and the truck driver . It 's up the client /contractor to do the spreading and the final grade . Putting the proper slope on the driveway so water does not sit on it , etc
If that’s all you have to complain about you need to get a life. That was a nice job.
Typical contractor. Blame the pile on the truck driver when you are the one to tell him or her to spread it heavy but yet you ordered too much gravel. I have had to spread gravel like this and do it to suit the customer but the contractor calls and complains. Put it 6 inches thick down the middle so they can spread it out to the sides is what you get told. You do that and the contractor wanted you to spread it 4 inches thick in two runs so they didn't have to rake it or use the skid steer. Then the pile at the end of the driveway is their problem because you were told by the customer that pays the bill to do it that way. You always listen to the one with the money in hand and not the contractor who is too cheap to foot the bill until he gets paid.
Standing in his front yard half drunk with a beer in his hand. Grab a shovel and work off the beer gut.
S is wrong you don't have to grade it if you do it right.
Where was his spotter? Guy on the side didn't seem too useful
Spreading can be very difficult. I have guys that have driven for 25 years that screw it up half the time. That was an excellent spread, now you have some extra stone for weeping tile or a walkway.
This was better than alot of drivers I've seen can do. Fine job
Dont you have a skid steer for these projects?
I disagree the driver went too fast. Any slower and the rock would have gone over the top of the tailgate. If you wanted thicker, should have set chains one link looser.
I'd of been more pissed that I paid for all that water. not the job the driver did.
Nate Rinnert LG Transport what?? Oh my fucking head hurts after reading that comment..... fucking people
Nate Rinnert LG Transport yea that is alot of water. He paid more for the load being wet than dry. Dry rock you get more rock for the price than if rock is wet.
KMike68Camaro Your incompetent bud, your charged by weight, the water added to the load equals less material for more money
Oh my the horror of wet rock. Are you serious? Please stop you're really adding so much STUPID to an already ridiculous conversation
Oh MY! Let's open an investigation of how the water got in the load. & How much drained out, we need cold hard figures here. I'm done.
Perfect spread.
Uh well it looks like you paid for a little water weight also lol
i agree with mylan, but one thing he could have done since you cant monitor your material is to reverse dump, then at end he would atleast have the option of making foward pass putting little on the side, but driver done a beautiful spread, not an easy thing to do
He did it wrong.
He did fine...
His spotter...
YOU
Didn't do your job
To adjust his speed..
He did alright, I would of chained down ahair more with a 1/2 bolt in the link then started at the road an laid it backwards closer to the railroad ties but not splattering over. then dropped down pulling back towards the middle. Then moved over a lined up again closer to the left side. Then pulled it to the road. Leaving alittle more rock in the center to work out as they used it. I used to do it with a pup. I enjoyed spreading. I also carried a shovel. Have a great day.
I’ve been driving a Tri Axel for years , this driver did a great job.
That is not a tri drive... that dump truck is tandem drive. .. it might have a drop axle. This dump truck has a spread plate, so that not being true to other dump truckers.
Interesting how many comments say "that's a great job" or "that's what I would have done". Me personally I would have made 2 passes and set my chains lower so there would have been almost 0 hand work or a 5 ton pile at the entrance way. Each driver/company/area has there own way of spreading.
Doing this kinda dumping. Fucks up the telescope cylinders doing this crap.. operators are lazy.. want truck too.. due.. job... must pay him good money for doing your job..
It’s not easy to get it perfect, he did a good job.
I own and drive dump truck for a living and this was the best spread that I’ve seen. That’s usually how I spread gravel. Sometimes I’ll either idle the truck ahead till it runs out or drive a little faster and let the last bit dump into a pile or I’ll also put the box down without stopping the truck and then get out and shake the tailgate a couple times to where you can latch it properly and then back up and make another pass at spreading.
Your complaining about that. Give your head a shake. Terrible title.
GOOD JOB,!!! I DROVE DUMP FOR YEARS IT LOOKS PERFECT TO ME,,,,
Tippers tip. Not lay it for u
Andrew Cahill Then why have chains? If you cant spread, you would not be on my job after the first load. I would be losing money on all my grader and dozer time.
This video is 8 yrs old but popping up on my recommendations lol...anyhow im a heavy equipment operator including driving dumps and flat bed rigs to transport equipment and he did as good a job as a person can laying the rock down the length of the drive ...the man that ordered the stone and is bitching would have no damn clue how to even come close to doing what that driver did I mean he didn't stop to think damn this man just spread all that shit with nothing but a dump bed and tailgate while driving forward ...he is one of them homeowners that thinks there is no work to be done if equipment is being used , sorry buddy they can get the bulk of jobs done but not all of it 9 out of 10 times there is gonna be some manuel labor for the finish of jobs
Yeah i would have to be making 85 dollars or more an hour to spreed that right for you.
Come to England where drivers tip loads any where they fucking want!
Unless you've paid close attention through experience, or received actual good training, it's going to be trial and error.
We only got one side of story. Some customers know everything, or they think they do. Others are happy just too get it spread. I do this for a living. No matter what, be nice to customers. Till you drive away lol.
Only problem I see is pickey customers who couldn’t of done near as good as that driver ... just nothing better to do than try an rag on someone ... because there jealous of someone’s profession
5 ton Military Trucks are really good. I'm interested in founding a service togather with wood incut.
Lol. What a crack up. Could’ve just come back. Haha. No good
Why is Gravel in usa so wet?Why must the Driver spread the Gravel,is that not You Job?
Only thing he could have done different was put it in reverse and back spread when he got to the end.
Or let the box down.
That’s why you need a spreader truck for driveways..
Too much further? It was all the way. Old ass junk tail gate.
well when you order 22 tons and only need 17 you get what you got... a pile and leftovers
Set them chains a tad bit too tight for the gear. It's not an exact science. It's called "time in seat". Looks fine to me
Perfect speed for the rock. Guy knows how to drive. Just suck it up buttercup
Homeowner is lucky, let the little Dweeb get some callous on his hands from a rake
title of the video should be "Dude ordered too much product and doesn't know how to estimate"
chlick bait title, this guy just doest want to get the machines and shovels out, rookie
The only thing he did wrong he did not open his changeup enough for the tailgate
Doesn't seem like a good place to stand and film
One hole or soft spot that you are not aware of and you're in trouble with a loaded bed up in the air.
Need some lessons from andrew camarata
I onced delivered a load of #57 limestone in a tri axle dump to a driveway for a lady and she said she only had a riding lawnmower with a plow to spread it , I laid it down so smooth and even , she gave me a $20 tip . DUMP TRUCKS HELP BUILD THE WORLD .
So what's the problem here
It's not a perfect science
I had someone tell me they saw a guy on UA-cam in Virginia spread it perfectly down the driveway, I just said "but we're in Connecticut" I'm sure he'd charge a lot more coming all that way. He left me alone.
I've been a dump truck operator. Customers complain about every damn thing. "The other guy didn't do it like that." Well I'm not the other guy! And you don't just "back up" into loose rock like that to finish dumping in the driveway. Good way to get stuck. And dig a hole in the gravel and underlying dirt trying to rock it out.
Oh good lord.
What did he do wrong? Looks, good to me
Happens to the best of us
It's not a science,, can't always judge it perfectly
Seems fine to me. I definitely would've put it in reverse though
No, not ruining my tranny for that.
As a tandem truck driver for decades what I would’ve done is move over and make two passes then you got a crown in the centre of the driveway.
And yes it’s very easy to slowly drop your box 3/4 of the way down the driveway so you won’t have a big pile. I used to spread driveways half that long...... I guess that’s why I would average $500 A summer in tips! $$$
A Little trick to figure out how much is left in the box is to hit the vibrator button a couple of times.... then I could figure out how much product I have left to spread.
