use your ability more often, especially against hordes of ragers, gunners or crushers so you can stun them knock them down and save you and your team from unwanted burst damage.
Block and push to get a bit of breathing room, if your heavy melee is too slow (I use slow heavy melee most of the time). Blocking protects you from backstabs but cost more stamina. Parry usually is good for ragers (block and attack while still blocking). Practice dodge back-sliding and dodge side-sliding. It's pressing a bunch of keys together (ctrl-space-s, ctrl-space-a, ctrl-space-d? can't remember exactly, depends on binds). It's real good against crusher overheads and such. If you get the muscle memory working, it'll pay off big time and will make melee that much more fun.

Thank you man, you are absolutely right and it's thanks to these thing I completed my first ever Auric Maelstrom.
The kickback is a horde stomper for sure. Try running the Terrifying Barrage blessing if you haven't already.
Definitely will try that one out, thanks for suggesting it
