- In this episode of 'Open Door', Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated swimsuit supermodel Lily Aldridge gives Architectural Digest a tour of the cozy Nashville home she shares with her husband Caleb Followill and their daughter.
While she is admittedly better known as a Victoria’s Secret bombshell and face of Bulgari than an overzealous homemaker, and her other half as the lead singer of rock band Kings of Leon, the couple, parents to six-year-old daughter Dixie, enthusiastically put family life center stage when they’re off duty.
When it comes to model-rocker unions, domesticity is a somewhat foreign concept. Studio 54 set the stage for Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall’s glamorous courtship. Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour’s volatile romance played out in a series of music videos that ended with her in a coffin (not surprisingly, their unscripted relationship fizzled in almost as dramatic a fashion). But for Aldridge and Followill, who rarely make public appearances à deux, the theatrics appear to be reserved for their charming abode, composed of grand archways, Persian carpets, and a gloriously tiled kitchen. “Home is everything,” says the California native, who relocated to Nashville after meeting her Tennessee-born husband more than a decade ago.
Dixie’s birth sparked the couple’s move from a kicky condo located near the city’s nightlife scene and sports arena to “a home near a great school,” Aldridge says of how their priorities shifted upon becoming parents. She immediately fell in love with this one: “It was beautiful, comfy, cozy.” She pauses. “My husband, on the other hand, wanted to move into a different house.” To help persuade him that the Tudor Revival, though a bit old-fashioned in appearance, was the perfect address, she called on designers and close friends Louisa Pierce and Emily Ward of Pierce & Ward. The duo count Karen Elson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Dakota Johnson among their starry clientele, and Pierce had previously decorated Aldridge and Followill’s condo.
We both travel a lot for work, but we do everything in our power to have a normal life here.
A recognition of the 1930 house’s good bones helped seal the deal: wood floors, beamed ceilings, expansive windows. “I love those details, and they’re hard to re-create,” Aldridge explains. Her husband gave in, and in the span of just four months, during much of which Followill was on tour and Aldridge out of town on modeling assignments, Pierce and Ward renovated and decorated every square inch of the place.
For the decor, Aldridge presented the designers with a Pinterest board of inspirations ranging from romantic English country houses to exotic Moroccan riads. “We were all on the same page,” says Ward, who, with Pierce, cheerfully scavenged antiques stores and eBay for eclectica such as leather club chairs, poufs, chandeliers, and a mélange of midcentury-modern pieces.
Each room is imbued with a relaxed, family-friendly elegance. The kitchen features open cabinetry with a decorative retro tile backsplash, and it’s where Followill holds court.
The living room is framed in arched bookshelves with a fireplace she keeps crackling “until it’s unbearably hot outside” and a pair of club chairs that remind her of the ones her artist father had in his studio during her youth. “The leather was literally peeling off the seats,” she recalls.

This is so cute, and not what I expected! It feels like a real home, actually lived in. Not styled so perfectly that you’d be afraid to sit down. The couches and chairs actually look comfy and cozy, the art is mismatched, and you can tell her family is really important to her

I mean, a lot of celebs' homes that are shown on AD aren't just white and marble. And besides, some people just like the white and marble style. Just because it isn't your style doesn't mean that it has zero character!

ceeza314 yeah i totally agree. I was not fan of the bedroom and some of the rooms but you can tell that it has character in everything she described. Like you said, its the matter of taste . I personally liked this because some of the celebrities that were on AD showed everything that i love ( minimalism, artsy, industrial, Scandinavian feel) yet they made it that it look more like a museum and not at all like their personal style or taste or home.
sterile minimal museum homes i dunno are just not me except in pictures but not in function. i couldnt do it. id feel like im tip toeing around my house. go on vacation if youre lucky enough to afford to one of those hotels if you want. but real life i want that cozy couch in every room that gets used not looked at and little things you love like art or little pieces of character that just eventually add up. why deny yourself that.

I'm left wondering if many of the commenters here are not Southern. This is a typical Southern home -- bright, airy, eclectic, collected, and evolved. Most Southern homes have family heirlooms and a sense of history, mixed with quirky things you've found along the way, things you collect, and things you love. There is also usually an embarrassing family member hidden in the closet. Just kidding! I'm an interior designer and I find this so refreshing to see -- not "done" like a hotel lobby or staged model home, and no clear color scheme. Pure personality. I love it!
OMG YASS I love traditional eclectic interiors. Was born in wrong decade. Aspire to own a Tudor style home. HATE the word "open concept" I love separation between rooms, which give cozyness, and love originality. This one, Dakota Johnson's, and Dita von Teese are probably my favorite AD tours!
This is my favorite one. Love cozy meet Morocco and how much she cherishes her child and family. I also like when it really seems like they live in the house and nest in it and know what everything is and it's not just all an interior designer's plan.
Jrrz Jnz I can assure you she had an interior designer work on this home. I'm an interior designer and I know professionally done work when I see it. custom hung drapes, custom fabrics, sourced trade-only furniture, rugs and light fixtures. yeah there was definitely a designer involved. just because it's not stark and minimalist that doesn't mean she didn't have an interior designer. we design for all styles (traditional, modern, rustic, etc. or a mix of styles), not just one.
jjenn 33 Yes I know she did and she mentioned that she did have an interior designer as well. I didn't mean that there was no interior designer - I was saying it wasn't ONLY/solely/completely an interior designer's plan. Like sometimes when celebrities just walk cameras through their house and none of it seems personal. Hers seems like a good mix between a professional design and her own comfort.
Even if she did have a designer, you can tell she worked with them a lot and gave a Hell of a lot on input! :)

For once, something a little different - personality! And it still looks like a REAL HOME. Love it!
This is my favorite tour AD has done because not only is her house more my style than any others, but it looks like an actual home! I love the personal touches of the photo of her grandma, the art and the books her dad designed. So often the tours are a lot of “and we got this random bowl in France one time.” I love the character as well as the design of the home!
I really love her daughter’s room! She seems like a really genuine friendly person.
i love that his house isnt just bland marble and beige walls with obscure artwork, there is character. At the beginning however the fact that the books are arranged by colour order and not alphabetically is a pet peeve hahaha (or am i just crazy)

i think this is my favorite home i've seen on AD so far. there is an interesting mix of things that i find my style and then totally not my style at all, but it blends so well because she has made this home HERS. something i've learned from this video is to decorate and furnish to the feeling and to you rather than to an aesthetic. this is entirely beautiful, filled with personality and character, and completely representative of the person who lives there. it feels like you've really entered her mind and soul! i wish this was my home!!
