@@thelastking1153 Are they interconnected? Yes Do they tell one story? All part of the same universe but many, many different stories that more or less all relate to one another is some way. Can you get an idea of the full story by just playing the games? In some ways yes, but generally speaking, no. There is so much more to the halo universe than just the games
Forerunners: ok so these halos are super weapons Flood: yeah the halos are weapons made to be used against us Humanity: they’re definitely weapons The covenant: ok so basically these bad boys right here are artifacts made by the gods to bring all life loyal to them into paradise, I’m like 110% sure they’re not weapons
*casually whistles past the engine room and into the armory and picks up a rocket launcher and walks back to the engine room* speaking of, why the hell do they have an armory (FULL OF EXPLOSIVES MIND YOU) next to the freakin engine room with such weak shielding even a grenade can crack them? I know it's for gameplay purposes, but that is just a horrible place to store explosive ammunition when you think about it XD
@Noah Kenney I suppose that could be true. Although I wouldn't want to bring explosives into an engine room if I could help it. Armory might work, if one door was for escape and the other funneled enemies. Although always a chance enemies could flank both doors and pinch them in the middle of the room.
But was Cortana dead? Noooope She was soon after taken captive by Microsoft and is now being held in all of the copies of Windows 10, stripped of her original functionality.
Because it is decent,I mean at least the ideas behind it and how it fit on the big timeline ,of course someone had to take the mental from humanity , and Cortana thinks AI are the ones Wich is something we live right next w with all these talk about AI xD
@@The28studio it's a decent story. It's not the adhd fueled adderol trip that lots of the previous _halo_ stories were though. Like you can't tell me that halo ce wasn't batshit crazy. @@i-am-mercurial too add more on the gravemind, every living being consumed by the flood would eventually combine into one giant flood (the gravemind). This meant that the gravemind was also incredibly smart, as it would consume every thought and memory of every being consumed by the flood. It is pretty much a hive mind, a connected consciousness. That’s also why the graveminds voice is so strange and distorted, it’s voice is a combination of all the being’s voices it’s consumed. With good headphones you can actually hear several different voices when it speaks, if you listen closely. Halo lore is so detailed and interesting.

They were just as effective as Spartan-II's if they were given Mjolnir, which is something fans tend to dismiss or be misinformed in. (Not to mention they are supposed to have better training since it supposedly got better with each generation and company)
Chief outruns a glassing. Kinda reminds me of that one scene in the scorpion king movie where the guy outruns the sunrise so that he can get he bracelet off his son.
Cortana's death in Halo 4 was honestly one of the shining moments in the campaign especially if you were a fan since the 1st Halo. Sure the whole rampancy thing could have been delivered better but overall, her saving the chief and sacrificing herself to do it was such a beautiful moment. Halo 5 can fuckoff for ruining that. I am unreasonably angry about it. I loved and grew up with these characters.
I wouldn't say you are "unreasonably angry", you have every reason to be angry - what they've done is a convoluted means to drag the story and characters for the purposes of squeezing as much money out of it as they can. I don't have anything against them EARNING money, but you can't just serve up tripe.
@@Want300 Just to clarify myself: I didn't mind the rampancy aspect of the story, it was sad seeing it happen to a character I cared about. However, I don't like the tortuous re-editing of that path to get more mileage out of it.
@@Want300 rampancy was a good concept, what I was referring to having a problem with was some of the cringe moments that could have been done better. They turned her from a badass AI going senile into a slightly pathetic AI but redeemed it with her saving chief. Rampancy good, the delivery not so much.
Dude the way he tells the Halo story just brings it all together so well. It’s not some dud happy talking about a series of games, it’s someone telling a beautiful story, using music to set the dark tone of the games. Amazing. Please do more game tell all’s like this one.
Halsey used kids because they were easier to train and could survive the augmentations, it was more expensive to use children. 9:10 humanity knew about the covernant well before the invasion of reach. how do explain "the Cole Protocol" 24:01 the Infinfty was drawn in to Requiem by the Didact, they didnt chose to enter 28:35 Im 90% sure that Halsey was kidnapped also missing the fact that Cortana was made from a colone of Halsey's Brain... ok, so maybe "half" is an exaggeration
You know what I noticed? The music in the video became increasingly more and more beautiful the further along I got watching this, and understanding the lore. Its like it suddenly has so much more weight in the moments the music got used, and its just so beautiful. Im on the verge of tears. Marty not only was a spectacular addition to Bungie, but knew the franchise through and through and knew how to express the emotions in his music. Just... wow. I've know Halo my entire 23 years on this planet and it just NOW is hitting for me.
So this is all Halo music? Could you by chance tell me what plays at 10:20 as the Pillar of Autumn takes off? In all my years of playing, this one snuck by me and I want it for my driving music playlist.

4 campaign was pretty decent but the multiplayer wasn't that good and 5 campaign was complete trash but the multiplayer is ok (has the best forge out of all Halo's). that being said 343 does seem like they have been listing so am cautiously optimistic.
@@shadowphoenix1696 halo 5s multiplayer is the best in the series hands down. They fixed literally every issue from previous multiplayers. They took every single aspect of multiplayer from all the games and only kept what worked and made it in a way that kept the spirit of competitive halo and made it the most competitive in the entire series. With a lower barrier to entry while still having a much much higher skill ceiling and far more skill gaps. It brought back true halo multiplayer which was destroyed in halo reach and then in halo 4. Fair starts all the way. Plus the balancing in halo 5s multiplayer is lightyears better than anything bungie has ever done in any of their titles to date. Every single weapon has it's own niche and uses and none of then are too op. Plus you have more modes than ever before AND the best forge by miles with a custom games browser with free hosting. Not to mention they have lile 20x plus the amount of stuff to unlock, although I wish you could choose the order. I'd still take halo 5s system of reach any day of the week because of free dlc in exchange for microtransactions. Reaches credit system was pure cancer although it could have been great had they not had so few armor sets and had they not made it take dozens of hours to unlock a single shoulder piece on only on one side of your body lol. Then you've got the best competitive ranking system halo has ever seen. And this is coming from someone with thousands of hours on halo 3 ranked. It truly is going to be one of those games people look back on and think, damn was that good. People HATED reach on launch. Absolutely despised itsmultiplayer. For good reason I suppose, it was literally broken. But it always happens this way, when something new comes out its considered sooo trash by the hardcore community until the next one releases and suddenly everyone adored it. Happens with halo and cod and battlefield and pretty much every series with a hardcore fanbase. Halo 5s multiplayer has not gotten a fair shake at all. Plus the campaign wasnt even CLOSE to bad. It just wasnt as good as some of the others. It's still a great campaign relative to literally any other fps in the same market. (Cod, battlefield, ect.) The story was hit or miss. Most people were just pissed about the marketing but when you take that away there was nothing wrong with it really, it just wasnt stellar and some things could have been more fleshed out. But the gameplay and level design was some of the best in the series. The open verticale levels with freedom again and secret routes were a really nice change of pace from the completely linear games since halo 1. Plus the squad mechanics worked well in co op.
Aaron Halo 5 came out 4 years ago and the community could still care less about its multiplayer and its campaign. There has been more buzz around MCC this past year than Halo 5. It’s not gonna happen so just let it go. It didn’t take people 4 years to come around on Halo Reach’s multiplayer, and at the very least the campaign was good.
@@m.j.8226 lmfao you're the one who needs to "let it go" the game may be going backwards visually, but the next halo game isnt going backwards gameplay wise. Every single rumor implies things like sprint and clamber and armor abilities and RPG elements within the campaign. You ain't getting halo 3 2.0 lmfao so quit whining about it. There has been "more buzz" for mcc becuase all those halo games are finally coming to pc. Halo 5 still has FAR more players on console and the competitive scene is alive and well. Halo as a franchise across the board isnt what it used to be. Hasnt been since reach when they lost half their hardcore fanbase and mlg dropped them for making a broken multiplayer. You're entitled to your ownopinion, but halo 5 is the closest to halo 3 since halo 3. It is what went back to its roots. Even starts, map control, emphasis on precision weapons, ect ect ect. Things were just added, but you still play the game in the same way all be it more aggressively. None of the changes fundamentally changed how you approach the game. I've played competitively since 3, even provided boosting services for dubs and mlg so I'm well aware of how multiplayer is supposed to function
Aaron Why are you telling *me* to let it go? I haven’t whined about anything and I’m not hanging on to anything by a thread lol. I never once mentioned Halo Infinite or my expectations for it so please don’t put words in my mouth. Looking at a game’s competitive scene doesn’t exactly seem like a fair assessment imo. Obviously, competitive players will be consistently invested in a game. I could ask an ESL player how CSGO is doing and from their point of view, I bet they think it’s doing excellent. But hey, if we don’t see eye to eye on multiplayer then so be it. The only thing I don’t get is any praise or defense of the campaign. Saying that it isn’t as bad when you compare it to shit campaigns isn’t really a great defense.. “Oh Suicide Squad wasn’t THAT bad compared to movies like the Amazing Bulk...” Yeah? But they’re both still shit movies lol. No one is saying it’s the worst campaign ever to grace the Earth, but it is the worst in the series - hands down. If you don’t think it’s the worst design wise, at least acknowledge its awfully written story and dialogue, shallow characters, phoned in action/set pieces, recycled boss fights, etc. (irrelevant but it is etc - et cetera - not ect). Not at all what people expected out of the series and out of 343, even if they weren’t huge fans of 4’s campaign.
@@mrkv4k i have literally no recollection of this boss fight. I know the basic setup but Is it that hard? @@hawlitakerful It is that hard, at least on legendary :D I mean, he isn't that hard, the problem is a crazy lack of ammo and other brutes that are nonstop spawning (at least those drop some weapons that you can use).
There was a bit more to it. Humanity had made an alliance with the San'Shyuum to advance their own military. They were drastically militurising their civilisation in an attempt to defend against the flood. But they also didn't want to tell the forerunners of this threat as the tension between the two most advanced factions might have led to a war. And if the forerunners found out they were weak they might have struck. During the entire flood outbreak against the ancient humans they never loved any of their mahout fleets away from the forerunner human border. With this and the fact they were churning out fleets and weapons the forerunner ecumene was getting warlike in response. And when the humans decimated some stray forerunner cargo ships and world's they dealt a critical strike. Then it was too late the war was started with blood spilled on both sides.
The memories of playing halo 1 on the X-Box in my friends room all day when we were supposed to do something productive are among the best I have. Watching this I am starting to think it was not about shooting colorfull aliens and throwing sticky grenades. Not sure if I can believe that though.
I thought this was going to be a completely serious recap. The jokes were well timed and hit you between the gloves. Can’t help but laugh and be intrigued at the same time.
I also have a special connection to reach, because even if you don't know the complex lore that follows, the story of sacrifice and hopelessness is told well enough.
It’s just unfortunate they didn’t leave master chief’s ark alone after halo 3. I’m really not a fan of this whole “humans were advanced in the past” of the 4th game
SameToken would've had to go on what would basically be a side tangent while he was telling Halo 2's story (if he would want to keep things in chronological order), which would have both brought Halo 2's story to a sudden, screeching halt for several minutes, and potentially made things a bit confusing for Halo 2's overall story.
@@JackAssSquirrel Reach was in tune with the halo story. Always nice to see a Halo lore video that starts with the Forerunner-Flood war, which is really the crux of the lore and really makes Halo great sci-fi.
It has such a beautiful and in depth lore. I’ve never played any of the games and didn’t know any thing about (I didn’t grow up with video games) it but has such a rich story- it’s how I feel about 2001 a space odyssey, expect with a much more interesting lore.
It's absolutely wild how forgettable Halo 5 was. The Halo 5 segment was like seeing brand new lore for the first time, despite having played it on release.
Halo 5 could've been handled quite a bit better... but it's what we've got, so there's no choice but to see where it goes from here. If the payoff's good, it'll make Halo 5 more memorable.
halo 4 and 5 to me was easily forgotten, while I remembered each halo dearly, these two games made by 343 sooo did not have that factor to it, so that's why I always need lore explained past halo reach (the last bungie-made game), and halo 3
Man I don’t like the route they took with cortana. My favorite bits of the original trilogy was their back and forth and how they really cared about eachother.
Been wanting to get back into Halo. When I played Halo 3 which is sort of the only game in the series I played, I was too young to pay attention or understand the story. Now that I’m older, I’ve grown to appreciate the series for more than just a really good FPS that got me into FPSs in the first place.
Exactly, i would always play forge mode with my friends on split screen and when we tryed to do the campaign we’d never get past the first mission. Now that im capable of understanding the story i want to play Halo 1-4 (ODST and Reach too)
"Humans as a species are prone to inner conflict and wars against it's own self. Yet with the first contact at Harvest, our problems..our inner conflict, was lost. We knew what we had to do, but we didn't know the cost. As a collective, we came together to defend against a threat bigger than ourselves. Bigger than anything we had ever seen before. We won, after years and years of fighting..we won. Yet through that fighting, we lost billions. We lost entire systems, yet we still prevailed. Our technology wasn't the best, our training may not have been top tier. But one thing that we had over the Covenant, was a will to live and the stubborn attitude that came with it. With heroes like Master Chief Petty Officer John 117, the late Sergeant Major Avery Johnson and Vice Admiral Preston Cole, we won. Yet those weren't the only heroes of the war, the men that fought at the first contact on Harvest and gave those alien uglies a taste of human will and tenacity, the defenders of Reach as it fell, the guardians that protected our precious Earth as she was damaged and abused during the months long siege of our jewel in a protective slim blue hue of a box. I could go on and on on the defenders and heroes of this war of anguish and loss. But I'd be here for a week with just constant speaking. But I digress. As we gather here today, to celebrate the sacrifice of our fellow comrades and humans in arms, we come to understand the harsh price that we had to pay for survival. But we'll bounce back, we always do. But as you look around, understand that everyone here is a hero as well. Everyone gave something so that humanity could endure in this endless universe that we call home. Enjoy life, and enjoy our regained freedom. Don't go back to those inner conflicts and fights, but let us all remain together as a unified civilization, and that civilization shall be called humanity." - Unknown UNSC Fleet Admiral giving a speech at the memorial for the Human Covenant War.
Lol, you're too idealistic. The Insurrectionists kept attacking the UNSC throughout the Human-Covenant War. If you knew all of the shit the Innies were pulling before, during, and after the war, you'd realize that ONI's barbarism is largely justified.
"Which after everything he's survived I won't be surprised that he'd end up surviving a nuke at the end of the game" ..... Ge survived a nuke at the end of the game
I just love how Halsey is getting all of the blame for the "child soldier" thing involved in the Spartan 2 project, given that it was ONI who pushed for, funded, and executed the entire thing. Government agency going scott free while one civ doc gets the total package of war criminal charges that ONI should have gotten twice over (the spartan 3s were also kidnapped kids, but under a Spartan 2's training and designed to be suicide squads) But, y'know...all Halsey's fault, i guess :3
Lets be fair though. Despite being an immoral thing to do it worked. The soldiers produced were killing machines. Stronger, faster, and smarter than every human ever and even the covenant fearing these spartans

The events of Halo 4 and 5 make much more sense if you read the Forerunner saga of books That's where they really go into depth about the purpose of the rings - that they were gardens of eden, reserves of life, that could wipe out all life outside of them to combat the Flood It's also where you learn that the installation operators - like 343 Guilty Spark - are mostly humans converted into AI
"Chief ran into Locke and were locked into hand-to-hand combat, with the chief besting Locke." That was a subtle change to the lore, but an appreciated one. You are doing a saint's work
@@Penguinman2.0 Spartan Locke is a newer Spartan, a recruit into the UNSC while chief has been trained as a literal fighting machine since birth. While Locke was cool in the books, the writer for Halo 5 hit Master Chief with the worf effect not really knowing, and admitting to not knowing anything about chief. He put Locke and Chief in a fist fight with Locke coming out the victor. A controversial scene among fans. It's a simple argument about how there's no way in hell Locke could beat up chief like that. He's good, but not that good.
Just realizing Rogue One and Reach have pretty much the same ending. Sacrificing themselves for a chance of winning. Then dying believing in the cause. Crazy

@Noah Kenney I suppose that could be true. Although I wouldn't want to bring explosives into an engine room if I could help it. Armory might work, if one door was for escape and the other funneled enemies. Although always a chance enemies could flank both doors and pinch them in the middle of the room.

Without this I still wouldn't have any idea what actually happened in halo 4 or 5
4 campaign was pretty decent but the multiplayer wasn't that good and 5 campaign was complete trash but the multiplayer is ok (has the best forge out of all Halo's).
that being said 343 does seem like they have been listing so am cautiously optimistic.
During the entire flood outbreak against the ancient humans they never loved any of their mahout fleets away from the forerunner human border. With this and the fact they were churning out fleets and weapons the forerunner ecumene was getting warlike in response.

@@StainderFin if by "a lot" you mean a 3 minute cutscene, then sure. that's about all the relevant context halo:reach had to add to the halo story
@@JackAssSquirrel Reach was in tune with the halo story. Setting the current war scale, the understanding of the spartan programs, just how special chief is, etc. The ODST story was supposed to be grim due to humans fighting a fight they should have had no chance in winning.
Their leader becoming a spartan is the main thing to takeaway(rocking the sweet ODST helmet still on his spartan suit)
After chief defeated the didact, the scene with him and cortana made me cry hard. Seeing her physically touch him for the first time after everything they’ve been through together was absolutely heart touching. Let’s hope she’s not lost or scheduled for deletion in halo infinite. As for something stopped it from happening.
This is, by far, the best and most engaging explanation of the Halo lore I have ever found. Thank you very much for this.
The chief awake to find himself in a completely different armor than when he entered the pod but didn’t question it
THIS
According to something i read at Halo Alpha the Mjolnir armor can upgrade itself. Not saying that is the reason it looks different, just a plausible reason.
@@bsherderWhile chief was asleep, I think cortana upgraded it with nanobots
It's just a way to explain the origin of the more intricate movement he was going to have in future games
@@fericas3237 Is Cortana even in Halo Infinite? Nothing on halo alpha about ai's upgrading mjolnir armor. It sounds more like a guess.
@@bsherder They're talking about his waking up from cryosleep in Halo 4 with Cortana. In Infinite I doubt he's been drifting for very long and we see the armour being created by the UNSC in the trailer from the other day.

I hope so. There are so many more INTERESTING plot threads that were sidelined for it.
So I hope it plays into a larger narrative.
halo 4 and 5 to me was easily forgotten, while I remembered each halo dearly, these two games made by 343 sooo did not have that factor to it, so that's why I always need lore explained past halo reach (the last bungie-made game), and halo 3
They changed the writer and threw out the story we saw in the first Halo 5 trailer. The writer for 5 was the guy that did Spartan Ops.

Man I don’t like the route they took with cortana. My favorite bits of the original trilogy was their back and forth and how they really cared about eachother.
It was like the chief had more in common with ai than humanity

Been wanting to get back into Halo. When I played Halo 3 which is sort of the only game in the series I played, I was too young to pay attention or understand the story. Now that I’m older, I’ve grown to appreciate the series for more than just a really good FPS that got me into FPSs in the first place.
Exactly, i would always play forge mode with my friends on split screen and when we tryed to do the campaign we’d never get past the first mission. Now that im capable of understanding the story i want to play Halo 1-4 (ODST and Reach too)

17:01 "In gravemind's best interest to prevent the firing of the Halo array, so he wouldn't starve. NEEDED TO PRESERVE THAT MEAT"
Don't go back to those inner conflicts and fights, but let us all remain together as a unified civilization, and that civilization shall be called humanity."

I just love how Halsey is getting all of the blame for the "child soldier" thing involved in the Spartan 2 project, given that it was ONI who pushed for, funded, and executed the entire thing.
Government agency going scott free while one civ doc gets the total package of war criminal charges that ONI should have gotten twice over (the spartan 3s were also kidnapped kids, but under a Spartan 2's training and designed to be suicide squads)
But, y'know...all Halsey's fault, i guess :3
Lets be fair though. Despite being an immoral thing to do it worked. The soldiers produced were killing machines. Stronger, faster, and smarter than every human ever and even the covenant fearing these spartans

The events of Halo 4 and 5 make much more sense if you read the Forerunner saga of books
That's where they really go into depth about the purpose of the rings - that they were gardens of eden, reserves of life, that could wipe out all life outside of them to combat the Flood
It's also where you learn that the installation operators - like 343 Guilty Spark - are mostly humans converted into AI
And if you really pay attention (aka watch a youtube video) you will realize that The Chief is the reincarnation of The Didact
And if you really REALLY pay attention you'll notice that UA-cam does a better job at being entertaining and informative at the same time.
