Akshay Singhal started his entrepreneurial journey in 2015 when he started Log9 Materials, to develop India's first commercial application of Graphene.
Currently, Log 9 Materials is using its core competence in Graphene nanotechnology to develop advanced energy storage technologies from the synthesis of electrode materials, and cell fabrication to pack assembly.
Their rapid charging battery packs solve the challenges in adoption for the two-wheeler and three-wheeler electric vehicle platforms while their Aluminum Fuel Cell technology is targeted towards the electrification of long haul, heavier vehicles.
Log9 currently has a 20% market share in the three-wheeler battery segment and going ahead they are planning to enter into bus and truck segment as well.
Till now, Log9 Materials has raised over $50 Million in funding.

If you guys want to watch part 1 of the Log9 journey, here's the podcast I did with Akshay back in 2019: ua-cam.com/video/VxfJMB0sWZ0/v-deo.html
Both aluminum hydrogen fuel cells and lithium-ion polymer batteries have their advantages and disadvantages, and which one is "better" depends on various factors such as the intended application, availability of resources, and cost considerations. Here's a brief comparison:
Aluminum hydrogen fuel cells:
Advantages:
- High energy density: Aluminum-based fuels have a higher specific energy than fossil fuels, which means that they can produce more energy per unit of weight.
- Renewable and recyclable: Aluminum is abundant in the Earth's crust and can be recycled repeatedly.
- Clean energy production: Hydrogen fuel cells produce electricity with water being the only byproduct, making them a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels.
Disadvantages:
- Production costs: Aluminum hydrogen fuel cells can be expensive to produce and require specialized materials and procedures.
- Limited infrastructure: Hydrogen fuel cell technology is still relatively new and lacks the infrastructure that fossil fuels and other energy sources have.
- Limited scalability: Current hydrogen fuel cell technology is not yet efficient enough to power large scale applications like airplanes or large vehicles.
Lithium-ion polymer batteries:
Advantages:
- High energy density: Lithium-ion polymer batteries have a relatively high energy density compared to older battery technologies like alkaline or nickel-metal hydride.
- Lightweight: Lithium-ion polymer batteries are lighter and more compact than other types of batteries.
- Low self-discharge rate: Lithium-ion polymer batteries have a low self-discharge rate, which means that they can hold their charge for longer periods of time.
Disadvantages:
- Environmental concerns: The production of lithium-ion batteries requires the mining and processing of rare earth metals, which can have environmental impacts.
- Complexity and cost of recycling: Lithium-ion batteries are difficult and expensive to recycle because they contain toxic and flammable materials.
- Safety concerns: Lithium-ion batteries can be prone to overheating and potentially dangerous fires if damaged or overcharged.
Overall, the choice between aluminum hydrogen fuel cells and lithium-ion polymer batteries ultimately depends on the specific application and a thorough cost-benefit analysis of both options. It is also worth noting that ongoing research and development efforts may further improve both technologies in the future.
I love how technical this interviews are getting. Huge thanks for asking right questions bro ❤️
Wow Raj, thank you so much! 🙂 -Caleb
Watching BWM after very long time. Glad that you guys have restarted interviews. It is always pleasure to watch start up founders speaking about their startups.
We need more deeptech startups 💪
Agreed! This is the need of the hour. -Caleb
Underrated interview!! Loved this conversation.
interesting to see how log9 has pivoted many times. Now it seems like they have a direction. Hopefully they can continue to grow.
loved this episode, i discovered log9 today, thanks Caleb
Wow. Indian Startup in manufacturing 👏🏼👏🏼
This thing is very challenging and at the same time, exciting
Awesome interview as usual! Great insights and amazing questions and responses.
Amazing journey. What a insightful episode it was . Kudos !!!!!🦄
A quite amazing story and a great interview.
Great !! , a fan of the log9...
Finally part2
Excellent interview. Saw the earlier one and was wondering how these guys were doing. The update is very good. Thanks.
An awesome interview
I wish ur podcast goes viral all the best to ur team
We need more such startup
More such people
India will lead the startup culture across the globe soon.
Will??
@@AkashSharma-oe9no i meant in terms of wealth as well not just the quantity
Has a way to go to catch San Jose usa or London UK. A lot depends on available capital. The world startup expo in Delhi met with mixed reviews. If India can think on a global scale there is a tremendous opportunity. More emphasis on building hardware support infrastructure is needed as this interview points out. Software apps only covers a small amount of what could be possible. The enthusiasm is there
@@barryobrien1890 Very Insightful comment i do agree the growth needs to be in other sectors as well but technology will definitely be a major factor in future.
@@AshuMishraG adreed. Technology is the key, but people seek solutions and software is limited to computers and phones. Custom hardware allows the software to be applied to many more applications in medical, entertainment, communications and transportation/logistics. Without a balance India can only support opportunities serviced with existing hardware, which has its limits in a rapidly changing world. Log9 demonstrates the power of chemestry and hardware as opposed to yet another app

Hey caleb plz ask Akshay about when will they collaborate with 2w ev startups such as ather and ola
may be "BYJUS " can learn from these people
Too big to move now
Man, I really enjoyed this interview
So glad to hear that Sanjay 😁 -Caleb
Waiting for them to create battery packs for EV cars! 30min charging will mean one can have smaller battery packs and charge frequently.
🌼

Hindi interview is best
Why would discovery of lithium deposits impact Log9? They buy lithium for their batteries right? It would only make it cheaper.
Has log9 pivoted from being a Al ion battery pioneer to something else ?
hello
Rebranding Yinlong cells don't make you a cell manufacturer.
Energy density and price are the reasons why no one else wants to use LTO.
Do companies ek product bana sakti hai bro . Pura story bata diya 43 minutes me or kya janna hai tumko technology toh nhi bata denge ne youtube pe yinlong se slightly better product hai inka ek baar hud check Karo hum toh abhi check kiye hai .
@@shubhamkrishna952 translation please
@@anveshananthula7241 I was saying that, one two companies can make same product . He completely told his story here it took him 8 years if he wanted to rebrand then he could do it in just half a year. I have checked the yinlong batter specifications and his battery specifications his battery is slightly better than yinlong .
@@shubhamkrishna952 previous packs from Log9 used 40 Ah cells which are exactly similar(infact imported) to Yinlong. It took them 8 years because they got tired trying out super caps and hybrid batteries. Atmanirbhar Bharat sentiments might have forced them to write these stories.
@@anveshananthula7241 I have searched the internet to find out relation between yinlong and log 9. In 2019 they were testing battery packs for I think at that time they used yinlong because it is on their website that the cell is 100percent developed in india not designed in india (boat is designed in india). If you read their zero day article written by forbs you will find that ISRO's K Shivam , officials of the Indian government , and some experts with VC's were also there . However I found 3 websites mentioning log 9 with yinlong but when I opened it it was a fraud site it was continuously redirecting me to other sites and was playing adult content automatically. So I think that maybe they had used yinlong batteries in the past for any purpose but now they have their cell ready because I trust Forbes more than a site which doesn't open and continuously try to scam me . Goodnight bro 😴😴
Girls be asking is Akshay single ?
