thank you for this. ppl get so weird about what is or isn't a genre, but there's so much overlap in it sonically like sorry i called the fraternal twins identical, they kind of look the same sometimes 😭
"crush" still feels new everytime I listen to it They experimented and goodness it worked so well Especially the bridge and the buildup to the outro ZB1 and dnb is a match made in heaven
This was such a validating video. When both of these genres just started to pop up in kpop I realised they were both my absolute faves and immediately had to create my own playlists… but then I got stuck trying to seperate them by myself not knowing the subtleties. I’ve come a long way since then and feel like I’ve learned to hear the difference and it was so cool to see that all our picks matched up perfectly.
same here! i post kpop playlists on my channel and wanted to make a uk garage playlist, but had a hard time differentiating the two. i just kinda guessed and luckily i was correct. this video is really helpful
I really went from wanting SKZ to do more DnB when they dropped 0325 in 2018 to getting like 5 of their tracks be DnB/have a DnB influence within the span of a year. Winning is fun.
sometimes it feels like we fans know more about genres than the producers do, like if any YG audio engineer learned about you and Wisp's youtube accounts they would probably bingewatch yall so they could catch up to us consumers
Hahaha yes so true! Most producers are on the ball (otherwise there wouldn’t be trends at all) but YG really is just ignoring the rest of the industry and sticking to their own sound. The other side of the coin tho is all the people (consumers as you called us) constantly accusing artists of ‘copying new jeans’ just because they make a song in the same genre and don’t understand how trends work 🙄
@@rachaelever the whole new jeans thing developed out of the long building PR collapse that was the HYBE merger and the hiring of so many minors- but yeah neither new jeans nor illlit invented rnb, drum n bass, house, nor innuendos- and the hiring of new writing and production talent which is pretty different to the mode BigHit had but i digress- most hybe groups don’t get songs built that much stronger than YG with the exception of musically trained idols (svt has some, bts has some, i think txt does? but i don’t follow them so they might not do any composing/writing/producing) (new jeans has been given writing credits but with no follow through nor evidence the girls had leading creative influence on their products). alsooo hybe has holdings in YG and aren’t strangers to borrowing staff- they are also major shareholders for SM. perhaps the big4 companies are one coin side, and the (actually) private labels/distributors are the other coin side. i think cube and k.ch are good examples as they have very experienced writers, directors, sound engineers, and producers in house, as well as use similar marketing to the big4 (with the exception of nssign) leading to far more developed and polished songs, with the contrast of less album sales and weaker PR (also gidle has musically trained members and I know those girls have had to involve themselves in marketing, at least a few years ago- don’t know if they still direct any marketing now). this comment is definitely all over the place but tldr: i’m sooo tired of the big4 misleading fans and im tired of cube and k.ch. also bravesound fuck bravesound lmao
listen i love my louder, more aggressive, "noisier" hyperpop / future bass / edm-adjacent kpop as much as the next person, but dare i say both dnb & ukg have risen to the top of my ranks as some of my favorite overarching genres in kpop... i'm thrilled they're both currently having a conjoined moment and frankly i don't want it to end, like when i hear any group do either of these types of beats, it's like a switch goes off in my head that activates instant joy lmao unrelated but lowkey vaguely and tangentially related my soty rn is impossible by riize which is about a hop, skip, and a jump away from ukg (i think?) given that it's capital H HOUSE
Coincidentally, there is a hip hop group called "UGK", easily confused with "UKG". UGK is known for the 2007 hit song "International Players Anthem (I Choose You)".
As a very old person, drum and bass to me means something more skeletal referring to the Amen break, while Jungle is disco with distorted vocals and samples. Love them both and their many permutations and variations.
Hey, I've been watching your videos for a while now and love them! But could you possibly hold slides with text for a little longer? I wouldn't call myself a slow reader, but I do have to pause every new slide in your videos to read them.😅 Thanks!
yes sorry I usually put this disclaimer in all my genre videos but very few kpop songs are genuinely one genre, they're usually inspired by or "watered down" versions of the labels I use in my videos 🙏
2 step is a style of uk garage ! ukg actually refers to a few different genres that were later consolidated into just one label, and 2 step is one of those early genres
For me, UK Garage still leans back to the breakbeats roots, while 2-Step leans more to halftime as the name suggests. Add more prominent Dub bass to 2-Step, and you get the well known Dubstep.
Hello!!!! i recently learn about a producer in kpop who made FEEL SPECIAL AND GIRL FRONT, his name is OLLIPOP you should definetly take a look he made somme of my favorite song like OH MY SUMMER! of WJSN, FLY of CRAVITY and Brave by TWICE :D
dnb: kick-snare--kicksnare
ukg: kick-snare-shuffle-snare with hihats added randomly in between
I feel like UK Garage tends to be bouncier if that even makes sense? That’s just what makes sense in my head lol
True! I also think UK garage music is more danceable than DnB
this is such an oversimplification and doesn't even get into the subgenres of each label but I hope it was useful to someone out there 🙏
thank you for this. ppl get so weird about what is or isn't a genre, but there's so much overlap in it sonically like sorry i called the fraternal twins identical, they kind of look the same sometimes 😭
shinee is really ahead of time. the 1of1 album is from 2016 but still fresh until now
yesssss 😩
the transition from bloom to in bloom is killing me
cinema.
cinema.

LOOP BY YVES AND DAY & NIGHT MENTION ILY ❤️❤️❤️
dnb is a stone and ukg is a pillow princess
How did you even think of that analogy 😭
@@laviilovee am I wrong tho T.T
How I differentiate them is: if it sounds like Super Shy, it's dnb, if it sounds like Cool WIth You, it's ukg😂😂
As a British person the video title got me and I was about to rage lol but you did a great job explaining the differences!
uk garage is prob one of my fave genres ever
salty by the boyz mentioned 📣
I really went from wanting SKZ to do more DnB when they dropped 0325 in 2018 to getting like 5 of their tracks be DnB/have a DnB influence within the span of a year. Winning is fun.
Okay uk garage has to be one of my favorite genres ever
every song for that genre i love sm
I was waiting for the speed love mention 😭
& Seoul sonyo sound
I'm all for more drum n bass in kpop, I wish it was more cold and epic like in Halazia by Ateez

omg i love shift and prism by shinee

who's your fav hyperpop artist?🤭
Crazy how uk garage genre in kpop have all my favorite songs in it
It's fairly night and day if you listen close enough, especially in the percussion. Either way, if it's a bop, it's a bop lol
back to zerobase instrumentals in the intro im gonna cry
day and night ment i cheered so loudly
Coincidentally, there is a hip hop group called "UGK", easily confused with "UKG". UGK is known for the 2007 hit song "International Players Anthem (I Choose You)".
day & night being a secret single is a CRIME!
oooh I like your channel.. I'm definitely interested in different genres and learning them more
Perfect timing, literally yesterday i was tryna find out the difference between ukg and dnb
As a very old person, drum and bass to me means something more skeletal referring to the Amen break, while Jungle is disco with distorted vocals and samples. Love them both and their many permutations and variations.
Uk garage is something that you would hear in hm or zara
UKG >>>> DNB
UKG is my favorite genre of all time. I can stand DNB
I'm the opposite lmao
i actually agree with u
dnb is like a foundational genre for kpop and ukg is when the producers wanna spice things up a lil. this is what it feels to Me.
0325 mentioned 🗣️
I also confused this with Hyperpop as well
loop by yves changed my brain chem
Love both of these genres so much ❤🎉
i needed this video 🥹😭😭😭😭
Totally get it! Super understandable 👌 also onlyoneof fame!
TOUCH SORI MENT TOO??? AHH
Love that song sm
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! , This was always very confusing to me but now it is clearer than anything, THIS IS ALL I NEEDED
Woah this was very informative
Imagine K-Pop songs with Speed Garage.
another great video, thank you so much!!!
i just realized both dnb & uk garage genre kinda have same kind of drum pattern
Hey, I've been watching your videos for a while now and love them! But could you possibly hold slides with text for a little longer? I wouldn't call myself a slow reader, but I do have to pause every new slide in your videos to read them.😅
Thanks!
Some of the songs included here are not even DNB nor UK Garage. But, I still wanna thank you cause I learn some new kpop songs.
OwO which ones ?
yes sorry I usually put this disclaimer in all my genre videos but very few kpop songs are genuinely one genre, they're usually inspired by or "watered down" versions of the labels I use in my videos 🙏
Okay now I can differenciate between dnb and ukg but I can't tell it apart from other (similar) genres LOL
But there's video about genres of K-Pop songs and I still confused about UK Garage and 2 Step.
2 step is a style of uk garage ! ukg actually refers to a few different genres that were later consolidated into just one label, and 2 step is one of those early genres

I was waiting for Enhypen by Paranormal to appear. 😞
im too dumb for all these music terms 😂😅
Hello!!!! i recently learn about a producer in kpop who made FEEL SPECIAL AND GIRL FRONT, his name is OLLIPOP you should definetly take a look he made somme of my favorite song like OH MY SUMMER! of WJSN, FLY of CRAVITY and Brave by TWICE :D
I'm sorry, i went out of this more confused
