@@citsejaiw yes this is also true!! she’s just done a lot to popularize it recently, especially with her recent statements on her ideal format of a song. if we really wanna genre cite (for liquid dnb), we can go back to the early 2000s/ very late 90’s, as one of the most common and well known examples was actually the powerpuff girl’s theme song! pinkpantheress is a big nct fan, so her samples and interpolations are fun to spot as well :)
as soon as i saw the thumbnail i was praying you would talk about zb1’s impact on dnb!! ive loved drum and bass slowly creeping into kpop in the past few years and the first time i heard in bloom i knew zb1 was about to be my favourite group
For me Zerobaseone are the founding fathers of the modern day dnb rise in kpop They somehow manage to give the old kpop realness and peak boygroup music that I just love, not only their title tracks but bsides as well
Tbh Zb1 really made me start to enjoy DnB like A LOT (it's currently one of my fav genres at the moment). Previously I barely even knew the genre exists and while I may have liked songs that have this genre I was unaware of it's genre. I hope Zb1 continues their trend of Dnb title tracks all the way till disbandment cuz it really became their sound.
would be interesting to see east coast club be the new direction that kpop goes (in terms of trends), especially since the latest zb1 title track is influenced by jersey club. in my mind it would kind of cement newjeans and zerobaseone and the trendsetters for the general sound of recent kpop and 5th gen music
thinking of groups like posse up and badvillain there's definitely already this undercurrent of jersey drill and hip hop as both a sound and visual aesthetic which is ???? interesting??? but yeah I wonder if it'll catch on more in the way zb1 and newjeans have used east coast club or if it's just a short phase lmao
@@KpopStuffs its kind of like in early 2023 where a bunch of ppl were doing reggaeton and then it suddenly dropped off the face of the earth and no one was doing it anymore.. only time will tell i guess but i'd definitely like it to be more than just a phase
I got into dnb back in 2006 and it always held a special place in my heart. I love the current trends in k-pop like dnb, synthpop and y2k. What a time to be a k-pop stan. Besides personal taste and all that, that was an amazing video with A LOT of research behind. 11/10.
probably one of my favorite genres of kpop outside of true house-inspired kpop The Feeling by SHINee really surprised me when they released it, I should know to expect the unexpected with them by now lol ARTMS is knocking it out of the park with dnb too, really excited to see more experimental stuff in the genre
you made that prediction last year just before the release of in bloom and i paid attention to almost every release since then, and i mean... you really predicted THAT!!! i swear most songs came out with heavy dnb influence or just straight up inspired by dnb after your video last year like i could NOT stop hearing it in most songs (this is a good thing) 😭 an aside: as an nctzen who Loves their signature noisier, metallic stuff i was somewhat worried mark's 200 would be more acoustic (which it sorta is), but imagine my face when the first chorus dropped and it became an insane dnb beat. 🤩
I really love dnb, but I hope to see songs adopt darker sub genres like breakcore into their music (the only song I know that uses it is the breakdown in crush by zb1)
dnb is one of my absolute fav electronic sounds so I’m glad it’s catching on, but I actually prefer when they go a little darker or “rock” with it, like skz 0325 and ateez good lil boy, but I like the “easy listening” stuff too, like what NewJeans is doing. the more upbeat/dance pop isn’t my favorite but I don’t mind. It’s growing on me.
absolutely love that more groups are using this, especially because i grew up on the sound of anime ops / osts and a lot of j-music uses dnb as their main genre. also super cool to see zb1 be one of the leading groups in this! theyre one of my ults and it's always nice to have your fave groups touch on your fave genres :]
i got into k-pop in like 2017 and was a casual listener until 2020 and dorothy by sulli was the first dnb k-pop song i heard. idc if i’m biased but it’s definitely one of the best in k-pop. the beat drop is so effective in conveying the vibe of the song.

love this video its so informative 💗 just a small video idea, can u breakdown the diverse yet unique sound boynextdoor has created by themselves compared to other 5th gen groups (lot of them remind me of 3rd gen music) i’ve noticed the heavy use of rock which is very interesting since the most popularized genre that’s been viral is dnb
90's kpop idols like lee junghyun and lee yoonjung has also incorporated dnb and garage in their songs, their was another group who full on used jungle. very interesting as that scene was popular in the 90s to early 2000s

During 1.5 and early 2nd gen, it was mainly used in dance tracks as a layer (ex: TVXQ’s Rising Sun) I also think the Tropical House trend had and influence on DnB in K-kpop. I know SHINee in songs like Prism and Jump explored it for a bit
Awesome video, it's clear you did your research! I grew up listening to edm, and dnb was always one of my favorite subgenres. I'm very happy that DnB made a resurgence in kpop, but I will admit I'd love to see more variation beyond liquid. Where are the neurofunk fans at... Edit: If anything, I think you’re missing a couple songs from the first gen. Technopolis by Sechskies, 海のオーロラ (Blizzard Mix) by SES, Soulmate by Shinhwa, and 봐 by To-Ya.
Very much agree, it's mostly very annoying, I can barely stand Super shy😂. Idk what exactly there is because I wrote here that dnb was used in TVXQ songs, but not in this bare bones way like nowadays. I liked Back to Zerobase, but that song is an example of having an actual melody to accompany that repetitive beat. Most dnb songs have only one little hook to put over the beat
@@leppaeti1815 When it's used as the base with more stuff built around it, it's much more engaging and fun. But it as the main genre with little change or melodic structure is pure shit from a butt ngl
It sounded good for a minute but now that almost everyone is doing it, it got old very quickly. No wonder ppl complain about kpop being too westernized. I'll admit, the DnB sound suits ZB1 and Nwjns but the other groups need to switch it up

TVXQ's Rising Sun and O Jung Ban Hap may be a good example of early use of drum n bass, back from 2005 and 2005. Rising Sun incorporates elements of Drum n bass with a classical orchestra instrumental, and O Jung Ban Hap uses it with dubstep and also some classical orchestra (at least I think😅)
Also, I think u ritgh about hiphop becoming the new trend in kpop. I thought it would be hyperpop, since the big waves aespa made with it, but despite the group inspiring a big trend in bringing back more experimental music they itself seems to be leting the genre to the side. In that sense, I think a more heavy sound is kinda lacking in the industry. Like everyone used to go crazy over hiphop releases like Blackpink and NCT in 2016
