Went to the first of 10 beekeeping 101 class last night with 200 attending and Fat Bee Man was the only UA-cam guy worthy of following. All the rest take with a grain of salt and sort though it all carefully. I have never heard so many grown men rolling on the floor and laughing anytime the term "flow hive" was used. Yeah they sure did look easy though didn’t they?
I have done this for years, but what I do is instead of mashing the strip into place I cut the strip into pieces and glue the pieces immediately with hot wax. I looks good and produces a lot more queen cells.
well by pressing the wax on the bar about a inch apart helps hold it to bar and spaces it for good cells to be made.if you attach any other way the bees wont make queen cells or if they do the waxed together and makes it hard to separate them. Don
I seen this video several years ago. When I was in my early twenties I had a man that I was buying my queens from. And I loved it. 5 dollars apiece. I had to give it up because it complicated my life not understanding bees take your money and time when you start. As does everything. Well I’m back and it’s still challenging but I’m more stubborn now than then. I’ve always remember one man up front above everyone else. The queen man. I didn’t understand what he was teaching me would still be with me today. We now call them mentors and a friend. I’m back in and this year I’m starting getting into raising my own queens. But I’m still not able to be as free as I’d like to be but I’m trying to be. Thanks for doing your video i didn’t realize it was you that made it. No telling how many times I thought of it. Lord bless and keep thanks.
Watch the FBM's videos on splitting hives. I watched each of them a few times before i tried it and it really works. not hard at all. i've only got one year under my belt as a beekeeper and have used Don's method with great secuess. hats off to Don. this man is a blessing to beekeeping.
This is actually really really smart. I just grafted for the first time 3 days ago and i think its going good but this is so much easier. Thanks mr don
Thank you for the tip. I am going to make a new bee farm in Sri Lanka. I have previews experience in this field. but now I am planing to do in big scale.
Great Video Don! I am gradually replacing my plastic foundation in the brood chamber with wax so that I will be able to use this technique on my favorite hives down the road.
Just want to express my gratitude to you Sr and like I always appreciate your help with all this information that is important and simple for us;may God bless your life and family
MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU SIR & YOUR FOLKS...FABULOUS TAVTIC FOR QUEEN CELLS...WILL FOLLOW THRU WITH THIS.THANK YOU..FROM ATHENS GREECE..
Don, I am going to try your queen rearing ideas. Please do a video to show us what to do with the queens when they are hatched. I have seen your queen castle video but you have not said how many worker bees to put in or how to care for the queens while they are in the queen castle waiting to go into a nuc.
Hey young man; Did I see a lrg container of Planters peanuts in the bee hut? Love the dry roasted ones. We also get a great size empty container! Thanks for all you do. I built and have 2 hives at this point in time. Best; Tom
Don, Can you put the frame that you cut, back in the hive? also could I put the cell after they make a Queen cell, in a baby nuc?. Love all of your videos. Keep up the great work for us newbees
I am surely gonna try this trick Sir!!! If I get it right then u r getting some donation from me, don't know when but u can count on that Mr. Fat Bee Man!!! Cheers to ur idea Sir!!!
Prabhat Jung Kunwar me to, im am layed off right now, and i have a queenless nuc, and was looking how i might get me a queen pretty fast, and thanks to the Mr fat bee man, for being a great person and making this video, to help us all out, I now have a way to make my own queens, What a great guy to take the time and help us all out, when i get back to work, he is getting a donation from me, thank you bee man,
It is a good idea to reinspect the frame after 4 days in the hive so that any sealed queen cells can be removed as they were raised from too old larvae to make good queens ie. they must have been 4 days old already when the queen cell was started. It is also worthwhile protecting selected unsealed cells with hair curler cages so that the first virgin to hatch does not kill the rest. When the virgins hatch each will need its own mating nucleus.
@Brian01331 yes get a frame of brood don't even worry about ages they will do the youngest ones after you get several god takes you can look for 3 day old larva
I currently have two hives. I want to start a third and fourth. Obviously I will need two more queens. so I take this video and create some verticle cells, place them in the current hives? Do I have to keep the queen away from it? How long do I put it in there? When do I put it in the new hive? How do I get bees to accept the new queen and how do I get some of my current bees to move into the new hive? Thanks Don.
i like all the videos. but i got a couple questions. Im new at this i have two top bar hives one has about 20,000 and the other one has around 30,000 now can i take some bees out of both hives and put them into another hive? and will they make there own queen if i put some home made queen cells in with them?
So if I split a hive and sacrifice part of a frame to make these vertical cells my queen-less bees will make more queen cells and faster than just giving them the same frame without hacking it up? I need to try this! Thanks FBM...
Make a split, its easier and you wont make mistakes. I suggest a walk away split. Basically you split your hive in two and the bees which are quenless will rise a new queen.
I thought so... just sounded like in the video you said crushed ones... I know they lay different kind of eggs... does it matter which you use? DO you have a video showing how you place them... I really want to try to do this. I am in Japan and about to get my 1st bees and want to try to raise queens... or is this insane for a newb keeper.
Sorry to keep asking. I think you mean that I make this device and then put it into the parent hive and then I can harvest queen cells in just a few days that I can put into my splits. Right?
I love your moovies ! Are ones of the best ! How to make the donation? And how to get the quin? I`m from Chicago, an like to start a colony., Now is October. I`m able to get bees, a pound, or two, but wher from get the quin?
I have 3 hives, and one is queenless. I've been trying to get a queen into the hive using frames from my other 2 hives which are strong. My question is this. I've been able to add two frames with brood and larvae, but not "recent laid eggs". Can they make a queen with the larvae, or will I need to go back and find a frame with eggs too. Thanks!!!
For the beginner this video creates ambiguity in our minds as we would consider the video incomplete and not know that we need to put this new frame that we created into a queenless hive and we would not know why the vertical cones would be considered queen cells by the worker bees in the queenless hive> and we would not know that the worker bees would then fill the newly created vertical cells containing eggs and young larva with royal jelly to make a new queen since the hive would be queenless . But creating ambiguity in our minds is the best way to learn something as the human mind hates ambiguity and will work like hell to find the answers and thus remember what it learned much more deeply and longer. Just keep reading the comments and all your questions will eventually be answered if not you probally need to get a mentor or maybe need to enroll in a beginners beekeeping class.
My frames have a plastic template in the center. Is there a way of adapting the procedure shown in the Fat Bee Man video with frames that have the template? Thanks.
You could remove one of your frames with plastic foundation. Add a new frame with a strip of starter (real wax along under the top bar,) and or let the bees drawn out natural bee wax comb in the same empty frame. Then Queen lays in that. Cut it into strips as Don does. Same result ! 🐝 * You might get drone comb drawn at the bottom of the frame. Ignore these cells, they will be 'boys' ! Cut strips further up the frame. You want eggs laid in worker comb... 🐝🐝🐝🐝
Hi from south Africa - my problem is I have cape honey bees and the second they are queenless there is a big chance a worker will start laying. To make queens this way do I have to return it to a queenless hive or can it be queen right? thanks for a lot of great videos....
Hi Don, This is Jason, all the way from the UK. I absolutely love your videos, i think they are informative and a great alternative to some of the methods we are taught here in England. I also don't like top bar hives as a personal preference, however I was a bit disappointed to see this comment, especially when someone has sought your advice. I don't mean this nastily, but when one beekeeper seeks advice from another shouldn't you help regardless, out of respect for the bees?.
JUST LOVE UR VIDS MAN KEEP IT COMING - NOTE IN OUR RELIGION IF YOU TEACH SOMEONE A GOOD THING AND THAT PERSON TEACH THAT WHAT YOU HAVE TAUGHT TO ANOTHER YOU GET THE SAME REWARD THESE VIDEOS ARE GOLD IF YOU ASK ME THANK YOU DON NICE GUY YOU ARE (^_-)
Maybe you could mention how to find all the regulations that have to be followed,,, I never thought of that and now am well on my way to owning a lot of equipment I can,t use till , permitted ,,, I was so enthusiastic about starting a bee hive and as usual , government trouble if I do anything ,,,, William
@BILL MEEK PARDON IF I ASK YOU WHERE YOU LIVE , I LIVE IN TEXAS AND HERE IS NOT LIKE YOU NEED TO FOLLOW SO MANY REGULATIONS TO HAVE BEES IN A BEEHIVE I ACTUALLY OWN 12 HIVES THAN ARE IN THE PROPERTY OF A LAWYER THAN I KNOW AND I WAS ALOTED TO HAVE MY HIVES THEREACTUALY A LIVE IN A APARTMENT IN THE CITY AND I DONT OWN ANY LAND AND I BEN BLESS TO HAVE MY BEES THERE , MY BLESSINGS

One note, I used a hot melt glue gun instead of messing with the melted wax and it worked and great.
This is actually really really smart. I just grafted for the first time 3 days ago and i think its going good but this is so much easier. Thanks mr don
Love your humility Sir! You have eye problems & you are making it so clear that Anyone can help make Queens! Thank You very much!
Thanks for posting this video. I'm not a bee keeper, but really enjoy learning about the process.
I've just did exactly the same thing last summer and I'm very satisfied about my queens. Very good quality.
I am using your method of using fishing line in X shape to handle the foundation sheet and it turning out just nice and convenient. Thanks.
I used this method, but I only put 1 egg cell in the new hive, and it worked great. Thank you FatBeeMan!!
So wait, after he pinched those areas, did he stick it back into a hive or something? What did you do?
Thank you for the tip. I am going to make a new bee farm in Sri Lanka. I have previews experience in this field. but now I am planing to do in big scale.
Great Video Don! I am gradually replacing my plastic foundation in the brood chamber with wax so that I will be able to use this technique on my favorite hives down the road.
You only need one
That is very simple and clever. Thank you I will give it a try. Greetings from the Blue Mountains outside Sydney Australia.
Wow so simple. Thanks fat bee man. I will try this when I get more experience with my bees.
Thanks for the information on how to start with comb and make queens.
Just want to express my gratitude to you Sr and like I always appreciate your help with all this information that is important and simple for us;may God bless your life and family
Don this is another of you great videos...really helps all the new bee keepers. Tom
awesome useful video,Thank you very much Sir.I learnt alot
Too easy.
Well done FatBeeMan.
Thanks for the upload, and best of luck to you.
It worked and it was easy! I've got about 20 cells in 2 different hives. I even used a hive that had a queen and it worked anyway. Xlnt!
Thanks Don! Great method for us small beeks!
i like this methode , i am a beginner and learning this all on youtube .. there is no bee keeper near me .. i am gone try this out .
+Leo TechTips if this works i will send a donation
Leo TechTips how did it go man? Did he get his donation? Did you get your queen?
😂
I am also a new bee keeper and i have a problem with one hive. i am gonna try this.

Thanks Don, I know the hard work that goes into video production but its worth it for the bees sake. Nice Intro.
I salute you brother. Thanks for the good video :) greetings from UAE
thank you this is awesome, my hubby and I sooo appreciate it.
Hey young man;
Did I see a lrg container of Planters peanuts in the bee hut?
Love the dry roasted ones.
We also get a great size empty container!
Thanks for all you do.
I built and have 2 hives at this point in time.

I like your attitude!
So do I put them in a nook? Do a follow up video this spring. If you can
Don can you show a follow up video with them?
+5100👍🏻🐝🇧🇷
Gostei. Simples, prático e barato.
Realmente, não há desculpas pra não produzir rainhas.
I can't wait to try that!!

I hope all them will be your favorite ones
Don
Don, do I just put this back into the same hive? How long before I cut the queen cells off to put into a split? THANK YOU.
Why do you mash the comb down every couple of inches? Would it be okay just to attach the comb to the top bar without mashing it?
Great tip - please more videos on queen rearing
So if I split a hive and sacrifice part of a frame to make these vertical cells my queen-less bees will make more queen cells and faster than just giving them the same frame without hacking it up? I need to try this! Thanks FBM...
You're not hacking anything up. The bees will fix it in no time.
Well done! we is missing is just the result :) please keep it up
Make a split, its easier and you wont make mistakes. I suggest a walk away split. Basically you split your hive in two and the bees which are quenless will rise a new queen.
Do you have results/video from this way of Queen roaring.
Sorry for my english I am dutch.
regards Ferry
Has first order for 10 capped QC. "I garentee you'll get 10 queen cells!" You're on Bee Man!
Did ya get 10 QCs?
Did ya?
@Majorme2 as soon as weather warms up we will do a series on queen rearing but will be in form a downloadable e=book
Don

Can a Bee keeper make queens anytime of the year ?

@@ME_MeAndMyBees Thanks! Appreciate your suggestion.
What would happen if you put the cut/ damaged frame back into the hive? Will the bees fix it up?
The bees will fix it like new in a day or less
@ArtaniAM some time its the simple things that work and are free. any donations are appreciated and helps me do more learning videos.
Don
how long do you have to wait to put them in a starter hive...I hear anything from 2 days to 2 hours.
Hi from south Africa - my problem is I have cape honey bees and the second they are queenless there is a big chance a worker will start laying. To make queens this way do I have to return it to a queenless hive or can it be queen right? thanks for a lot of great videos....
So, can you explain where the frame with the pinched cells go? And at least do an update video of the results?
Blessings from Charitable Miracle Beekeepers
My question is will this force a swarm with all the cells
I always love fat bee mans tips. 👍
Don quick question do the bees make queens in the strip of bees comb
if you try it it works in a queenless hive or 5 frame nuc.
Don

omg, this is a great video, if fact the best i have seen. Do you sell queens? I am just getting started on bee keeping and have nothing. I need help.
Well how's it going for you now?

When you put the frame back into the hive, when do you go back into the hive and harvest the cells?
Can you put the damaged frame back into the hive? Will the bees fix it up?
Yes the bees will redraw the comb
as long as weather is above 65* and pollen is coming in.
Don
Don or should I say fatbeeman... Can you do a video of this technique from start to seeing the queen cells ?
thank you for sharing. thumbs up!
what state are you located in? I would love to take your classes!
North Ga
north georgia
once you cut cells return the frame to the parent hive.
Don
hummmmm should I use =fatbeeman?
I really applied your method but the bees, had moved the eggs and larve to the the normal frames>,,,is there any error in my.
Ok, then put this back in the original hive for how many days, then make my split and put one of these queen cells into the split?
This is my favorite Fatbeeman video!
Who is your lighting director?
Right on Fat!
I will contribute to the cause
You the man thanks...

What do you do when you have a lot of queens that you made and want to sell them? How do you keep them alive?
Small nuks, splits, more nuks, more frames, more splits, etc. If you want to keep queens then you need to have queenless hives to put them in.
Good job
