I worked for Shakey’s for 9 years (‘77-‘86). Bunch of Lunch was $2.39 when I started. Best fried chicken in town. They’re all gone now, almost all in California.
But....but....los Angeles ...

I attended Calstate LA many years ago. On my way home, I went to Shakey's Buffet. Been there since I was a kid, perhaps 20+ years ago.

Thanks for the memories. I really miss Shakey's. We had one here in San Clemente, CA when I moved here in '71. The Mojo potatoes were my fav!! Didn't know they were still in existence. Will goggle to see if anything down my way, Melaney from SoCal.
My childhood memory was of Sharkey's in the Philippines. (Early 80). I love it, plus they franchise is still available

I loved Shakey's when it was here in Wisconsin. It was a great place for families to eat and celebrate birthdays! My favorite was the great chicken and the sausage pizza 🍕 . I really miss them since they all left. I really love your enthusiasm and honesty with your videos. I can't wait for more!

Thanks for posting this. I grew up in Alhambra so, needless to say, I spent a lot of time at this Shakey's. Kiddie birthday parties (including a couple of my own), high school fundraisers and, yes, lots of BoL. The place sure has changed (an arcade?) but the food is classic. My faves are the salami pizza, the fried chicken and the Mojos. Thanks again for the memory blast. You've got yourself a new subscriber.

Shakey's is a pizza hero that makes the best damn pizza. It used to be like 8$ for lunch and they stuck around during COVID. Meanwhile, all my Manila relatives are jealous, because their "Bunch of lunch" is just combo meals.

OMG, I've been living in the area for almost 40 years and I never knew the headquarters was here. I just found it odd they had a two-story building, but never looked into. It makes so much sense now. Thanks for the info Steve! Will definitely have to visit one of these days. There is also another one in San Gabriel across the street from 168 Market.

Shaker’s on Dimond Blvd in Anchorage, Alaska…good memories but the closed in the early 1990s. We loved Mojo’s, chicken, and cinnamon rolls ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks for the memories, back in the '70s I was a dishwasher while in college. On Sat nite there were silent movies with Laurel & Hardy. Good Time. As for the "Bunch of Lunch," my favorite is the fried chicken and a couple of mojos, and a few slices of pizza.

I haven't been to a Shakey's since I was a kid. I loved the Mojos.
If I starved for two days, I would get the money's worth. The price for the buffet is cheaper than the grocery. Great video! 👍👍👍!!!

Great video, Steve. When it comes to affordable pizza, Shakey's has no rival!! Forget that Dominos, Little Caesar crap--go for the Shakey's crispy thin crust!! Great sauce and the toppings are as good as anybody!

the fairfax county police, in fairfax, va, were heart broken when the last one shut down some time back. it was their go to place on and off duty with lots of great memories there. i think it was on rt 1 in lorton va if i recall, but for sure, within the fairfax county limits.
I love Shakeys; they used to have one in our town but no more.
I go a lot to Shakey's. Usually get chicken, pizza, and Mojo potatoes, but the doctor say that I have to limit the amount of potatoes due to its potassium content. When I used to drive to Santa Anita racetrack, I used to see the Alhambra location on Valley Blvd. I did noy know that it was corporate headquarters

Love Shakey's. Only problem is most Shakey's restaurants don't serve white meat chicken. Only dark. I love having mojos smothered with gravy!

At an Illinois location, Shakey's had awesome taco pizza and a great buffet. My favorite place to eat as a kid. One evening I'm there with my dad and we were sitting by the tv that had on the news. My plate was loaded with taco pizza and the news announced that John Belushi just died, the place went into a roar of shock and disappointment. I was too young for SNL, so I was clueless. Shakey's was a hit in my area, too bad it closed.

They use to be in Hawaii. We would visit every Wednesday after the swap meet. We had a ball with 5-10 of us going on after a while they had a table for us just we waiting for us. Back then it was $5.99 AYCE. Our gang really miss SHAKY'S. Come back well do it for $12.00.
Hi Pastor Steve! I've never heard of a Shakey's. Would you know why the breaded and deep fried potato wedges are called MoJo's by chance? I'd say you are getting a great deal for the options you get there. There are healthy choices too. Sounds and looks great!!!! I'm new to Cali. My kids really like Golden Corral. How does Shakey's buffet compare to them? I assume their pizza will be better, but both have fried chicken.
Shakey's is quality > quantity. imo the grilled/fried chicken is greasy good, but you'll mostly fill up on the pizza, mojos and salad
The pizza is what my kids will be most interested in. At Golden Corral, they live for the dessert round though.

No more Shakeys by me. Both locations closed sadly. Back in the day when we were teens we absolutely loved the bunch o lunch buffet deal. Mojo potatoes rocked! My friends would have fried chicken eating contests. The food was always fresh because my friends ...they had to restock the buffet. They were good to us. If we requested a certain pizza they'd say "Coming right up!" And it'd be out shortly hot and fresh. A plate of fried chicken and mojos and then a plate of pizza and so on. .25 refills on soda. It probably took about 2-3 large glasses of soda to wash it down. At 17-18 years old you didn't care about calories. We absolutely went to town. Can't eat like that anymore.

Everytime I go here I PIG OUT. It's about $20 for the buffet and a drink these days, but the pizza and chicken are so good that it's worth it, especially considering inflation.
