Jonathan and Grayson had such chemistry together. Dr. Hoffman's "good friend" status used to drive me nuts. It would have been wonderful to see a romance blossom between Barnabas and Julia but that wasn't going to happen because that situation wouldn't have been as appealing to the masses as it would have been if Barnabas had found another sweet young thing to romance. I like to think that he did come to truly love and appreciate all her fine qualities...it certainly seemed so in the "Never without you" episode...but we'll just have to be content with Sam Hall's TV Guide article. This makes me cry, everytime. I don't know why the viewers weren't allowed to see the final episode where Barnabas and Julia get together and live happily ever after. Surely, it could not have cost the networks that much to see the viewers' dreams satisfied.
Sam Hall wrote a summary of all the characters about 6 months after the show was cancelled. It appeared in TV Guide and yes they ended up together!! He said they married and moved to Singapore so Angelique would not find them and harm Julia. .When she initially cursed him she said that Barnabas would never be able to love because anyone who loved him would die. I think that was part of the reason he always referred to her as his friend. But as time went on you could see more and more that he was realizing his true feelings for her. I am just glad they ended up together. He spent more time with her than all the other women put together, and she knew him better than anyone. And isn't true love based on a solid friendship?!
At times, Grayson Hall could be the absolutely most beautiful creature in the universe. Other times, she looked like an old hag. The combo is extremely appealing.
At first I wanted Barnabas to be alone but then I realized the good woman Julia was and how she wanted to help him so then I wanted them together. Tnaks for this beautiful video, I watched it several times! Silvia

I probably shouldn't say this....but my big sister coined the term "The Grouper" for Hoffman because of her habit of staring off into space with her mouth wide open. I know it was the 60s but I wish they had made her MORE scientific so to speak, less weak. If she could have been more hard-core the problem is Barnabas would probably been less attracted as after all, he was a 1700s guy. IDK... I dont see Barnabas ever going for her as anything but a trusted friend, and she as doomed to have her heart broken.
Julia was a smart, well educated woman. She wanted some man, definitely a "Collins" type, yes code, to want her. Barnabas, on the other hand, like a lot of men, had a type.
