I know sometimes F1 and indycar like to make more of the aero screen than what it is... but i think this is one of the BEST examples of the safety improvement it is.
If the Halo and Aeroscreen was a thing 10 years ago, Jules Bianchi and Justin Wilson would be with us today. 😢

@@danw2112 the FIA investigation report on the Jules Bianchi accident makes it very clear that something like the aeroscreen or the halo could not make such an accident survivable.
"11. It is not feasible to mitigate the injuries Bianchi suffered by either enclosing the driver’s cockpit, or fitting skirts to the crane. Neither approach is practical due to the very large forces involved in the accident between a 700kg car striking a 6500kg crane at a speed of 126kph. There is simply insufficient impact structure on a F1 car to absorb the energy of such an impact without either destroying the driver’s survival cell, or generating non-survivable decelerations.
It is considered fundamentally wrong to try and make an impact between a racing car and a large and heavy vehicle survivable. It is imperative to prevent a car ever hitting the crane and/or the marshals working near it."
That last lap crash could have been much worse if we were still using the previous chassis.
these cars can still get airborne but they don't stay up there for long.
Love it or dislike it, this chassis is one of the safest race cars in the world and that crash was a good demonstration of the commitment to safety that indycar has been working on for the past 7 or so years.
The chassis protecting neegarden last month in his crash was probably even more impressive in showing off its safety.
I admit I was one of the “halo ruins the open cockpit cars” and now we have example 25 of drivers being saved by it. I happily eat my words every time

That last lap crash is almost unfathomable. One of if not the worst crash i've ever seen at a short track.
I know a lot of people hated the halo when it was first put on Indy Car's and F1 cars, but it still continues to save lives to this day
I've always liked the aeroscreen. It makes indycars look mean and fast. Like low flying spacecraft 😂😂
So, so thankful that these cars are as safe as they are. A decade or two ago that final lap crash could have been fatal.
The aeroshields are safer plus they look really cool.
Safety has come a long way. In the 1950s there would have more than likely been 2 fatalities on the last crash. Happy to see everyone safe.

@jaguatiricaimediata5305 Yes, it was developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies (belongs to the Red Bull F1 team). F1 opted for the Halo (developed by Mercedes, so my original comment that it was made by RB as well was wrong) in which Indycar showed interest too but was concerned it
might impact visibility on oval courses so they went for RB‘s Aeroscreen instead. I’m glad they did so.
As much as I dislike Red Bull as a company the aeroscreen is great and superior to the halo

The halo device used in IndyCar. This was one of the earliest solutions provided by F1. If I remember correctly, FIA allowed different solutions to be provided for comparison. Red Bull made a version with a glass cover. Mercedes made another version. This solution was not finally used in F1 because drivers reported dizziness problems. It was probably due to the refraction of light caused by the curvature of the glass. Then the second solution was used. This is equivalent to an open bidding. So there is essentially no order of precedence. However, this version of the halo device was indeed tested in the practice race on the Red Bull car. It will eventually need to pass comprehensive tests before it can be actually used.
Well, Kirkwood got away with one due to the aeroscreen.

The current car is the Dallara IR 18, first used in 2018, it's a 6 year old chassis, now I guess you could say it's an evolution of the Dallara DW12 which is a 12 year old chassis but many changes were made that completely transformed the chassis, the current IR18 is nothing like those older cars, it's a 6 year old chassis
Definitely one of the best and more underrated championships
This was my first Indycar race I've attended and it did not disappoint. Was definitely memorable!

The latest safety improvements helped Kirkwood safely get out of his wrecked car. That was scary.
Since its introduction...the Aeroscreen has had some serious tests thrown at it by Iowa Speedway.
And you have in IndyCar now one of the biggest promoters of the Halo/aeroscreen safety system, Romain Grojean.
The Halo proving once again that is the best safety addition to Open wheel racing this century
Iowa is best known in racing for the Knoxville Nationals which is sprint car racing. Sprint cars are known to flip this year they've got nothing on the IndyCars as far as flips go.

sheesh! that was a scary/brutal wreck probably one of the worst IndyCar wrecks i have seen in quite some time
The track setup is simple, a high-speed track with 250 laps. It's almost an endurance race.
"Deja vu , just like before, the last time, when he came second in that race". When he wasn't first.

I didn't have the will power to make it through the whole race, but these highlights are pretty entertaining. I guess with Indy most of the racing happens at restarts and coming out of pits and otherwise they just form a train?
Is this the first motor race you've ever watched in your life?
this race was bad because the turns just got repaved giving them lots of grip and making the inside line super strong and the only option. before the repave there were multiple lines to run and lots of passing. it also didn't help that Firestone brought a very hard tire that didn't have much fall off.

@@nickb2049it wasn't the only option. Many passes on the outside in the last 2 days on the restart. Every oval track has a preferred line, just like any other track

I thought the same thing. When we got there that was the first thing I noticed. Iowans can be boring people (I am both) but it was 90+ degrees for the entire race and HUMID.
@@benrebik613 The problem is both concerts were post-race, so many people who are primarily there for the concert had no reason to be at the race. And unfortunately, there are many race fans only who won't pay the price of admission because they have no interest in the concerts.

points and championship at the end of the highlights please! You can even run the current outro that you have along side it. People wont click off as quickly while listening to the outro message because they are checking the leadership and points.
Don't get how they would miss that. Happens more often than it should (never) on motorsports on nbc

They were waiting to see if cananpino could get it started himself since the new hybrid system allows that. Once they realized he couldn’t do it, they threw the yellow. They were just giving him a chance

Hopefully i can see it on t.v. late night Monday on the same channel that i haven't seen one lap the entire week and cancel the late night t.v. and local crap. I'm still pissed that I didn't get last night's race on my box after recording 😔

Look, I hope he's alright but Stingray Rob needs to leave the series. He is CONSTANTLY in crashes and 90% of the times you can blame him.

With only 17 races in the schedule why in the world would they race two races same track, same weekend? And why is the season so short? F1 is 24 I think, NASCAR cup series 36, Xfinity series 33 races.
new promoters wont put on new indycar races because people don't turn up .,,,, pretty simple supply vs demand equation , there is no demand.
@@AlistairMaxwell77 yeah I don’t watch it enough to really notice. I tried getting into it and could see there’s like two really good teams, two pretty good teams and the rest. I guess open wheel racing is dead right now. Pretty sad, they came to Canada every year. Never go but always a good buzz and it’s actually very well attended.
Stingray Robb isnt up to the task, amazing he got a second season. Coulton Herta deserves to be there but is overrated. He isnt an elite driver.

They should keep these things on the ovals, but not this oval. One groove and unpassable. And road courses? Forget it! They are not competitive on road courses. It’s just a parade.
Nobody shows up to ovals. You want to race in front of 5000 fans every week? Good luck finding a sponsor.

And people want more ovals? They need to make some serious changes for that to happen, they took tracks like Auto Club, Las Vegas and Pocono off the schedule because of how dangerous the racing was, now yes those were super speedways (according to Indycar) but its clear they need to build a new chassis for oval racing to thrive in Indycar, would like to eventually see a 50/50 schedule like both CART and the IRL used to have back in the early 2000s
The problem is Nascar, being the bigger company, takes these great tracks and ruins them for Indy for their races. This is why we no longer have Texas. But I would love to see more 1.5 mile or 2 mile ovals on the schedule. I think they should go back to Michigan, and get rid of the dogshit Detroit "track". Scott Dixon said on Connor Daly's Speed Street Podcast that he would love to see the return of Michigan, but Indycar's issue is the lack of attendance. Dixon said they (Indycar) would never do it unless they can get people to come to the race. But hopefully the Nashville race at the end of the season will be a great race like it should be and maybe it will spark a resurgence in big ovals.

NBC....you guys did a crap job covering INDYCAR this yr. The poor performance of not keeping up with accidents and drivers resposenses are a perfect example. Not to mention the horrific job you guys did in NOT promoting the sport this season. Was the lack of effort because you're losing the series in 2025? After losing Dale Jr and now INDYCAR it's evident that NBC MOTORSPORTS is a sinking ship. You guys suck in 2024. Hope heads roll, ppl get canned and you guys bounce back. Here's to 2030!

Saturday race was terrible, people passed on the race Sunday and just showed up for the concerts. But it’s crazy how it wasn’t packed just to see the amazing hybrid in action.
Get a new car ASAP. These things are way too heavy and outdated to put on good racing.

Anyone else sickof seeing these incompetent and clueless "safety crews." No urgency to get to drivers and clear confusion of what they should do first while fumbling with equipment. This is happening more and more at every track around the world.
