As for Allen, yes, he does have a noticeable bowing in his right leg, but it did not come about because he took up race walking. Many people have physical body characteristics that can actually be an advantage in certain sports. I remember back in 1972, they talked about 7-gold medalist Mark Spitz's "hyperflexed" knees which allowed him to have a deeper, more extensive leg kick in both butterfly and freestyle races. As for the snide comment made about Allen's age, it has been a while since his two trips to the Games, but he continues to train and compete in both open and master's level events. And he does very well, I might add.
You have the BEST night show Jimmy! I’m never impressed with Guillermo’s replies, not a one liner sidekick. He’s not a spokesperson, but man I tell you he’s an ACTOR!!! Please don’t get me wrong, he’s an asset to your show. Great team you guys❣️
omg jimmy and guillermo racing allen james, im dying, reminds me of when racewalkers would pass people jogging on the track lol, always a nice feeling. i met olympian maria michta-coffey once when i was in high school. it was a brief two seconds; she waved and quickly flew right past me when i was going for extra racewalk lessons/practices outside of school. The thing is, she didnt seem tired or winded at all, it was her going at a LEISURELY pace. bottom line, racewalk olympians are so fast, man.
"Something that's not natural". Ummm, walking isn't natural? Lmfao. Walking is about as natural as it gets, and walking fast isn't going to alter your body, other than maybe slimming YOURS down lol. The dude is clearly bow-legged naturally.
I wish I could run a 4:28 for a mile! I'd take 4:28 for a 1km too, walking! No, I'm certainly not going that fast. Also, racewalking is judged to the human eye. There is a minor flight phase for most elite athletes that is not visible to the human eye. Slow-motion video is not used.
I didn’t know this was an actual sport, lol. The guy in the Ice Cube movie “ are a done yet” showed this sport and I laughed but didn’t know it was real. 🤷🏽♀️
In 1904, the 880yd walk was part of the All Around event, which would later become the decathlon. In 1908, the walk would become a stand alone event at various distances. The events in Tokyo will be the 20km for men and women and the 50km for the men (though women should be doing this too. Women really excel at the longer distance.)
The current top walker male in the US is 24 years old and he's only been walking for 3 years. He is also a very good runner. One of the top women walkers has a full ride from Arkansas to run. If I could train a group of 18-20 year olds, that are decent track athletes, 800m to Mile the best, they would have an excellent chance to make the LA28 Games.
@@niagarawalker Hey Allen, I am trying to get into race walking but where I live I have no facilities. I am only 20 years old so right in the age slot you mentioned and am looking to get better at the sport. I use to be pretty fit but have recently gained a few pounds but that shouldn't be too hard to shed. So if you do see this, plz reply and hopefully you can train me to be better at the sport and make the oly in a few years time.
I appreciate promotion of race walking but I dislike seeing it displayed with such silliness. I do have a sense of humor. It wouldn't be so bad if the clip also included the technical form that makes RW challenging and the astounding athletic performance level required of elite race walkers. 50K (approx 31 miles) Olympic record: Men 1:32.33, 6:50 minute/mile pace, Women: 3:57.08, 7:38 minute/mile pace 20K (approx 12.5 miles) Olympic record: Men 1:16.36, 6:10 minute/mile pace, Women: 1:23.49, 6:45 minute/mile pace
Anita - I think your numbers got messed up. That being said, I've touched on this on other threads, you have to have a sense of humor to be an elite athlete in many sports. I hope you watched the Olympics and some of the lesser-known sports and events. All three of the walk competitions were brilliant displays of tactics and endurance in very difficult conditions. Imagine what people say about ping pong - errr table tennis, badminton, archery, and more - here in the US we often don't care about these events and think it's just a backyard game. It's the same gold medal that a Simone Biles would win though! Also, the US does not support our athletes like other countries do, some even have pensions for their retired athletes.
I had to turn it off when he asked if he can 'pick up women doing this'. I find Jimmy to be one of the most insulting ppl on late night TV. I'm a ballet teacher and am used to being the butt of many jokes about fairies (remember when Misty Copeland did a ballet production with him at BAM-dont get me started) but power walking is an easy and reputable exercise. Obesity is a problem in the US. I just felt bad for the Olympian athlete having to listen to these two make a mockery out of something he is obviously very knowledgeable of.
Callie - most of the men and women don't have bowlegs, but it does look like it when they are walking so fast. I am very bowlegged, thanks to inherited genes. My father was much worse, always walking around as he had just gotten off a horse!
First off, Anita Macias-Matters, you made a typo on the world record for the men's 50 km walk. It should read THREE hours, 32 minutes, not ONE hour, 32 minutes. It is the longest footrace in the Olympic Games, 5 miles longer than the marathon run.

Not to put a Wrinkle in Ethan's panties, but maybe if he got out of his 1970's Lazy Boy in his mama's basement and exercised, he might learn that a lot of older people are actually in excellent shape.

Allen, it's been awhile since we raced together, but I'm probably more Jimmy Kimmel's speed now. It was great, thoroughly enjoyed it!
