Even though wow was amazing and can still be considered decent I'd put ff14 above modern wow comfortably. Less invasive microtransactions for a SUBSRIPTION BASED game are one of the big reasons, but I also found it to be way less toxic especially for a woman

My first proper expansion I played was dragonflight. I really did like what was there. Especially loved running mythic+, it was incredible to have dungeons that scale up in difficulty. I'm a ff14 addict and I would say it's my favorite game, but there are so many good systems and features in wow I wish ff could use. Especially the transmog system. I am begging square to realise the glamour dresser sucks lmao

WoW Classic is great if you enjoy playing the auction house, creating profession alt armies and sitting in a raid for 1-2 hours until you find 40 people. Grinding gold cap (218k) to purchase 1 item in GDKP raids. Grinding 40-60 hours a week for 8+ weeks for the highest rank in PvP. God I miss this game xD

I think the list makes some sense if you're looking at it from the perspective of where the games are right now. Retail WoW has gone from Shadowlands to 18 months of pretty solid gameplay changes and content updates. There is generally something to do and some new event taking place, with a content patch frequency that hasn't happened since vanilla WoW. From what I've heard from FF14 players, they're going through a relative content drought right now until Dawntrail. It makes sense they'd be listed lower right now, especially lower than WoW Classic which has 2 major content updates happening and ESO which seems to be doing well too at the moment.

RuneScape has been around for longer, and it just hit its peak playerbase ever a few months ago. Meanwhile, WoW has been hemorrhaging players forever - just not enough to not make it profitable anymore. Playerbase and longevity are shit indicators for quality I'm afraid.
I think it's, as everything, a matter of taste. I played WoW for a long time myself, and quit during the Legion expansion, when I felt it took up too much time of my free time. It was quite alright when I was still a student with loads of time, but once I got a job, and an own household to take care of, it got too much (for me at least). It felt like an endless grind to stay relevant in the raiding scene, especially with random item upgrades. Like it required you to run dungeons and/or world bosses all the time to get the best items and artifact upgrades. To me it seemed like a desperate attempt to bind the player base to the game by not giving them enough time to try out other games. Now I don't know how it is nowadays, but this past experience still stops me from giving it another go. I'm way happier now with a different MMO, that doesn't ask you to farm the same stuff all day; and that has a developer that actively encourages you to play other games as well.

I think this was more in the context of they didn't seperate out the other versions of for instance RS/OSRS.As someone with 1000+ hours in WoW and OSRS and atleast 100+ in classic wow (and played it when it was new back in the day) and Runescape and I can tell you that Classic Wow and WOW are more similar than OSRS and Runescape.

New World isn't even that fun. It's a game of "oh piece of candy", and you farm a shit ton of materials to play. Final Fantasy is on par with WoW, easily. WoW has an edge because they keep dumping expansions on top of expansions, clogging up feeds. FF arguably is the better of the two, but I am NOT kidding you when I say I've played it and the INTRO to this game STARTS 80 hours in.
