Regardless of showing a place considered “the most old school backwoods”, one thing people who don’t live in places like this realize is that, people in these small towns, run down or not, all know each other and look out for each other. They have realized that having all the money and the things and the big fancy houses and cars don’t mean you are happy. I’m from a large city in Florida but grew up and lived mainly in Georgia and SC with family roots in one of these small towns just like it. We are planning a move back to a small southern town. I wouldn’t trade a small town in the south feeling for anything or any town or city in the world.

I heard laughter of children who played ball in the safe streets of this once happy town. I smelled savory aromas escaping through the open windows from mama's kitchen. I found solitude on the big porches where we once sat in the evening as a family to talk and laugh together.
I felt peace and love. 💕

      @jamesnash6101 Рік тому

WTF... Are you talking about? That's all good and fine. Just as long as all of you dark skinned share croppers. Stayed on your side of the tracks.
But if you ventured onto; "mighty whites" land. Well you knew the consequences, because the slave patrols, herrinvolks and Karenvolks were there to remind you of what your place is. If you knew what was good for you. You'd better stay on the dark side of town. And just be happy with your 40 acres and a mule.

@@jamesnash6101 And it sounds like you may still be living on one but I'm betting you never saw one.
I was raised on a village with cotton mill workers. Most of the kids had to quit school at 16 to go to work there. At that time,in the 40s, I think my mama and dad made 2.00 a day wages.
My dad was the village drunk so his money went in his pocket. Mama fed and clothed us on her pay. He also was a mean drunk.
We had a tough life too. But when he wasn't there we had a fun time. We took advantage of every moment.
I am really sorry that you haven't searched your mind and dug up a time when you found a little enjoyment there. Of you haven't, try it. You'll be much happier today.

A little history about Dawson. This was a segregated town. A private school was built so more privilege families would not have to intermingle with the less financially wealthy. There was industry here until NAFTA moved plants to Mexico. One by one the plants closed and hard working people were left without jobs. Older people stayed, children moved away, families died and relatives sold the homes to landlords. It's still a good easy-going place to live. But no one really cares about investing in the old things. Next time drive through the beautiful homes in the area. Many of us still take pride in our humble homes.

There are supposed 'third world' countries with better housing, better ammenities and better overall quality of life than the places depicted on this channel. There is no pride in their community, no shops, and probably little to no opportunities for employment. Before we spend billions on other countries we should repair our own.

The situation in Dawson and every run-down town or neighborhood in America can be traced back to two things: (1) the Democrats with the Great Society of the 1960's when the government revved up the FHA with totally delusional financing programs to make sure that all blacks would forever be wed to the Democratic Party, and (2) the Vietnam War which was totally bogus but which quickly introduced millions of American servicemen to Southeast Asia drugs and addiction on an industrial scale. Credit for both goes to old white men in Congress who got us into both - may they rot in Hell.

It's NOT that simple. We only see the outside but not the real culture. While it charming, cute and "down home quaint DO NOT be fooled.
With that also comes a mindset that is not based in equanimity. Say if you leave those areas, become very successful and go back you will find those who stayed will not understand you or appreciate you no matter how well intentioned you are.
This will play out in two ways. They will see you as goofy billy-ms Willie Maes son from down the street and will not translate that to the man you are now.
But at the same time they will see you as NOT one of them because you left, grew, got money, nice clothes etc.
For more understanding of this Google "a prophet is not known in his own hometown. It tells of all the good jesus wanted to do when he returned home BUT his own people just could not deal with and accept him. They could only see the poor carpenter who made tables and chairs.
So he had to leave them at THEIR level as this is what they wanted for themselves. And he now had christ consciousness and could not go back to material mind in order to fit in there.
These small towns are very much like this. I have relatives in South Georgia and visit briefly every now and then. I am like someone from outer, space to them. I just smile nicely, keep pretty quiet and then go back to California. No way could I ever live ther again.
