  • During the first blizzard of 2022, I was lucky enough to get to spend it in a tent. I use a cot tent, with a heavy pad and sleeping bag. The temperature wasn't super cold, only around 25f. I cooked some chicken, on a biotite stove, to go with some mashed potatoes. I called on the ham radio, but didn't have any luck with replies.
The Biolite stove I used..... amzn.to/3qGXfat
The cook set I used..... amzn.to/3qItwy2
    Similar ham radio..... amzn.to/3KqWo5G

That little tent seems so cozy. I would totally use that heated blanket 😊

I get that a lot. My wife calls me nuts, even when I’m not camping. 😆

@@PreppingOhio You need a hot tent and a lightweight woodstove for it.

You do a nice job and your honesty makes all your videos comfortable to watch. Ham radio is a great companion in all outdoor situations! Where about in Ohio is the camp site?

As usual another great video Aaron. I do enjoy watching you camp in the cold. But for myself, I will stay on the warm side of the door. Good try on the 2 meter band with that Slim-jim antenna.

Good trick for the cold is to put boots into a shopping bag (or bags) and put them into the foot of the sleeping bag. Keeps them warm and dry. Heavy clothing underneath the sleeping bag adds insulation, lighter stuff goes over, good for legs and feet. I was surprised you left stuff out, when under the bed is a good place to keep the weather off: for bad weather, a ground sheet can be a useful wrapper for those things. I've never used a cot tent, but looks like a really good idea, to keep you clear of boggy ground, and the door area looks double-skinned to insulate. Last time I camped was using a huge tarpaulin in a "C" shape, both ground sheet, back wall and roof supported by ropes and edges pinned with boulders.

Usually I do keep my backpack under the cot, however, this time I just forgot. It sure was a frozen mess to thaw out. I like the idea of keeping the boots in a bag/s, but it is pretty cramped in the cot tent. I may try using some instant hadn't warmers next time to drop down into the boots an hour or so before starting the day. I'll likely be adding a nice tarp to my load out. I also like the idea of a ground sheet. Thanks for the recommendations!

Hello Aaron, you being diabetic why don't you drink Michelob Ultra. It only contain 95 calories and 2.6 grams of carbs. That's what I drink and I'm also diabetic. Just limit you can consuming.

You’re right. I’ve had it in the past, I guess I just forgot about it. Haha. I probably should give it up, all together.

@@PreppingOhio I did, I no longer drink. I use to drink bud light then Michelob Ultra, tequila, crown royal anything and everything else until I had a stroke two years ago and I also lost my eye sight out of my right eye as well as heart problems. It has been 2 years since I have not touch a drop of alcohol. It was not a good combination of mashed potatoes (too much starch by but healthy card and high in fiber) and beer (turns into sugar) that you had for dinner. Careful amigo, this diabetic will get you sooner or later just Do Not let it.... Take care!!!

Aaron what county of Ohio do you live? I’m also from southeast Ohio. I also prep . I am myself just on a low income prepping budget. I do buy the best gear I can afford. Most of my prep buying is on hold till I get some home repair work done.
Just wanted to kinda get a idea on the part of Ohio you are at . I don’t need to know exactly or a address that would be creepy. 😬😁👍. It’s neat to know that there are others out and relatively close to me. I’m kinda alone on prepping. Most of my friends are not into prepping or radio communication. Some are hunters none camp or winter camp. I’m trying to get my son to be more prepared and my brother.
My nephew is heading to the prepping side . He is just more into the fun equipment stuff though. Although I am the only Prepper in my little family and friends group. They all agree if it a true SHTF situation and it’s a absolute grid down , they all agreed to meet at my house if at all possible. Then we move to a more out of the way a place and that when we go we go as a group. The younger ones and I will stay behind to help or wait at least 24 hours for the ones that have trouble getting to my place. We will wait 48 hours only if they have made contact with us . Depending on the severity of the situation. We may go and get them depending on who and how dangerous the trip may be. This is for a true grid down situation. Or rather a total society break down. Or just a Russian invasion.
We are family so in just normal disasters we are always there for each other.
Plans above are for something that may never happen.

I live in guernsey county. I’m about the only one in my family that preps. (Or maybe they just don’t tell me that they prep too) haha. The Russia thing is pretty concerning and because of that, we are going to add to our preps this year. Stay safe!
