Nick Homes (Jazz Duets) is producing some of the very best instructional material on jazz improvisation available on UA-cam. This is real-world stuff that yields immediate results if practised properly.
Your tutorials are so helpful! Thankyou for putting all the work into producing them.
So, this is why I've been obsessed with Lydian for almost a whole month. I love the sound here! It's really a "true eternal paradise" vibe.
Thank you so much sir, I will be ever grateful to you for your kind contribution towards the musicians like me belonging to a remote village here in India, who really have no access to a good teacher. God bless you man.❤️
I totally agree with you, Thank you again for this superb musical contribution!
Beautiful! Thank you.
As a guitar and bassist, I'm seeing things in a fresh way. This series inspires ne to learn to sight read. I get the theory, it would nice to be abke to work the excerises without struggling
I’m a long time lurker on your channel and this comment is definitely overdue: You have made me a better musician. Thank you!
These super imposition videos are eye openers! Thank you so much!
A personal addition. We can use the arpeggio of the m7b5 starting on the #11, adding the major 7th, to get a sort of pentatonic with a locrian sound. So for example, if we have Cmaj7, then we can play:
F# - A - B - C - E
#11 - 13 - M7 - T - M3
On the other hand, if we are playing a major 7th chord with the #11 included (i.e. Cmaj7#11), we can use this sort of pentatonic:
E - F# - G# - B - D
M3 - #11 - #5 - M7 - 9
and it would feel like you're playing a blues scale, but raising the first note by a half tone.
Note apart: We could also use the whole tone scale over this chord, with a bit of caution.
that's the Coltrane Pentatonic! and in the video of the same name I demonstrate this sound on a Major chord
@@JazzDuets Very nice good lession Roberto from Italy
I am trying to see what you're getting at, cool ideas. Why is there a B in the first example? Is it Borrowing the #7 from the Cmaj7? I don't quite follow the m7b5 there. You said off of the #11 so wouldn't we end up with F#, A, C, E ?
Actually I think I see you mentioned "adding the major 7th" so not a #7 of the #11, just the #7 of the root gotcha 🤙
@@alexanderolsen3831 Yes, you start on the #11 of the major 7th chord, make a m7b5 arpeggio from it, and then you add the major 7th of the major 7th chord. And thus you get the pentatonic explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/R4RnvI3eSzY/v-deo.html
Truth to tell. I've never thought this.
Great lesson.
A awesome door to come into a world of new sounds
Thank you for stating these reminders to enjoy our musical journey.
Super interesting concept!
Thank you!
Beautiful, thank you so much!
great as always,thank you!
Another great lesson!
Thank you for these lessons. These are amazing
Outstanding!
Brilliant video!!!!!!
I have now the material, thank you for your knowledge!
beautiful lesson! We need more on superimpositions!
This and the previous video have opened a lot up for me. Beautiful and exciting stuff.
Are there similar superposition tricks which work over minor 7th chords?
Awesome!
Cool concept dude!
Thanks... You are the Best.... I love this channel....
Super cool😍😍
I always thought jazz sounded so weird because the chords and shapes were weird. It's hilarious to see how simple the concepts are, it's just how they're put together.
Not all of it is as simple as it sounds and it can use weird chords and scales. You can't go from learning a pentatonic scale and then immediately perform Giant Steps.
Manley156 ...There’s the language of bebop that has to be reckoned with. Hitting chord tones may make you a competent improviser...but the fundamentals of bebop are what makes it jazz.
there's only 12 notes
@@joshweigel1131and all the frequencies between ;-)
Very nice!
Thanks!!! I apreciated your videos!! I buyed the pdf excercises pentatonics!! Hugs!!!!
Thanks!!
Nice!
Gracias por compartir
Great!
I have never soloed doing these eigth note techical type runs. I just play from my heart and soul and create shapes. Players are always impressed by my piano playing. I always feel they think I'm better than what I am. Music is all subjective anyhow. If I play some New Orleans blues in China they flip out like I'm an 👽 alien.
Saludos mr. Nick!.
Nice......
Nice
Yes
I love you
Como puedo obtener ese libro?
Fantastic! Hope you don't mind a bass player borrowing from this.
great !, would you do the same on minor chords ?
Use this all the time. Tasty! 👌🏻🕶✌🏻
Amigo, amo tu canal, siempre tirando data sarpada y no entiendo que conexión tenes con argentina pero cuando termine la cuarentena y pase todo vayamos a tomar unos mates si andas por aca
I think it will be also nice to play Ebmaj6 and Bmaj6

I don't understand how this functions in theory to be able to recreate the idea in any other key.
If you are an even spicier boy, you could play the minor pentatonic based on the #11. Jk, that would be very hard to pull off.
One of the best ways to empty a room
Marcelo Carvalho unless your name is Chris Potter
Not really, you just have to be cautious of the fourth note of this pentatonic (C#, if we would be playing F# minor pentatonic over Cmaj7). In this case, you would ensure as much as you can that this fourth note never falls in a strong beat, because all the remaining notes fit perfect.
I actually do this bullshit in the right settings. It's a lot of fun.
Luke Menniss I mean who doesn’t love a good #15 from time to time.

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Did someone else recognice Herbie Hancock's "Textures" ?
Francisco Jácome Maura yes
I mean.. he says it less than 30 seconds in.
It would be a much better lesson if I could hear the voice over the loud music.
Really sorry, the volume of the music over takes the voice. My machine only?
i think i speak for all guitar players when i say what?
