My name is Nick Homes. I am a non genius musician who struggled for many years to find out the secrets of jazz improvisation. Throughout 40 years of playing, and obsessive investigation I have focussed on building systems of learning for my students so they can improve , and reach their learning goals with the highest probability whilst having fun!

#pentatonics #learn jazz #improvisation
I just spent an hour with this video and my guitar. This is THE channel for people who want to make their pentatonics sound sexy.
Mind blown! I’ve been looking for something like this for decades. Thank you for the knowledge
i totally agree -- brilliant method of teaching, unpretentious, with humor. I'd love to meet him!
Thank you! Ibeen playing pro 45 years and with some great players. Nobody ever shared this with me until now. This is the only I need to get to the top of the game .Yes I'm lazy so much thanks mate
I downloaded this video, got audio into my DAW .... and slow down this speedy burst of notes to something for humans .... and learned a lot this way. Thanx for your approach and time !!!
lovely funk energy on this one , bopping hard.
Brilliantly played - both of you - and expertly edited!
Thank you for giving us this wonderfull material. This channel is by far the best way to learn how to improvise.
This is amazing, love your style of teaching. You are a great teacher.
Approach and target notes, all the essence of Jazz ! Great resource to practise
C'est ici que je trouve toujours les meilleurs conseils et les meilleurs exercices
Merci et félicitations pour toutes ces vidéos si instructives et si bien réalisées
I have been looking for this sound forever. Thanks so much for the breakdown. This is going to take my solos to another level
Very nice! I really enjoyed this! Very helpful!
By far the best and most efficient method I've ever tried ... so many cool licks you can create with this
Just what I needed. Thanks a lot for the great content.
Outstanding lesson for generating melodic ideas on sustained chords in model vehicles. Beautiful soprano sax playing as well. Fingering is a little awkward on guitar but I am working on it.
Amazong duet, super funny and inspiring!!!! like ever Nick!!! Thank you very much!!!
Love this channel. More please!
Oh yeah, been looking for that!
This video has blown a great big hole through the door which was holding me back in terms of putting a theme together during chord progressions.
You made my day ! Thank you so much !
aaaah! this made sense! Thank you!
Really good. Thank You
This is the holy grail, thanks for sharing the magic.
Excelente..... 👏👏👏Muchas gracias .. 👍👍Un saludo desde Colombia ..
Thanks for the video! I often feel stuck using pentatonics.
Even me i cant understand what to play after completing pentatonic..
AMAZING!!! Thank you.
What a great tone!!!
You are a Guru jazz duets
Awesome video would like to learn more thanks for sharing.
Lovely playing
Excellent, thank you.
Thanks man!! Great stuff
Just great thanks
So good groovy beat makes so much sense
amazing blowing. that is just sooo good I want to do it NOW!
this is going to sell... great playing!
This is sooo good! 🤩
Nice but can you do more episodes on the jazz standards decoded series please? I feel it really helps seeing a harmonic arrangement for people as you did with Summertime. Thanks!
A real eye and ear opener... It's a blast
Brillante y sorprendente que toma mate!!!
you are an amazing artist!
Keep the supergood work up.
🍻.
I've learn so many things from your videos!! Thank you
Lovely stuff. Reminded me of 80s Miles! More on double approaches would be great.
Great explanation of approaching, thank you!
By the way, that`s so interesting to compare real jazz solo episode and the guitar one that doesnt use approching notes. Just one technique but so much difference
AWESOME LESSON!!!! I am a guitar player but this concept can work on guitar and help break out of the mundane soloing of a pentatonic. Throw a few Dom 7th arpeggios with enclosures and you can create a lot of tasty wicked solo lines. Thank you for making this videos!!! Very helpful to expand the mind to new techniques and concepts!!!!
it's tingling all the senses
its amazing thanks
Excelente!!! Tocar funky jazz y tomarse unos matienzos.
Brilliant 💪🏾🤘🏾
Thanks
Thanks!!!
fantastic, really shows how easily you can get some freedom away from chord scale slavery
You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
:)
that is great "chord scale slavery' freedom is what we need!
I love how these lyrics are like approach notes. Each line is set up for the pay off. Very cool.
I see wat you mean g..It flows so easily..without really trying..im not even lying..Just lying in bed..Wana get this in my head....
Cheers from NZ
fantastic
Suena genial
It's just perfect, thank you very much!!
Muy bueno Nick!

@@Steeyuv and transcribing
I can do all of this...... in my head. 🤣😭😫 Just need to get my fingers to do it too!! Hahahahha. A other brilliant video. Thank you!
Start off slow. Get it in your head. Good luck!
What a great sax face!
can you make a double stop approach I know this approach is for guitar but as you have a great knowledge and outstanding abilities for making mind-blowing content Please give it a try
Amazing tune. So funkafide and groovilicious!! Do you guys have an instagram?
Gracias . Esto es información muy valiosa.
Si pones subtítulos en español seria grandioso.
Gracias
It would be extremely helpful if you would show the b flat score along with the concert key.
That's a cold groove.
IMO this was has been your best video. Could you show the same technique applied to a moving chord changes?
sure! Its killing!
haha! thanks
Smokin😎
AS ALWAYS i LOVE YOUR VIDEOS AND LEARN SO MUCH FROM THEM. sorry about the caps! I was hoping that the guitarist who played wonderfully in a pentatonic scope would venture off and play off some of the chromatic sounding notes that you play.
I asked him not to play chromatically on purpose to be like a foil, if you know what I mean.
yeah really nice. Super tough to apply to the guitar perhaps but a lot of fun trying. Django land
Didn't expected that mate, where u from man? Love your vids
I am from here and now. Cordoba
It's weird to see the guitarist "live" in the the Pentatonic and the sax go all chromatic. It's like I want to take those same blues guitar licks and slight them up and down the neck and then take some of these cool "soul licks" and interject them into the sax stuff. Great examples and series of themes.
Jazz y Mate Argentino!!
tomando matecito él!
i am glad i can only read tabs
Do these exercises come in bass clef?
👍
Hey this is all really good stuff but I'm not this advanced to know all this. I think you have to learn how to play over the changes and have a good understanding of the fretboard or the fingerboard or whatever to get to this place. Till then I guess most of the work that we do in the instrument will be learning by rote or by imitation. Can you make some videos of how to get to the level where you can play over the changes and how to get there without it being so tedious and monotonous. If you know the changes to a song beforehand and you map out the notes then you can play over them but how to improvise over the changes? Like in Jazz? You have to know the fretboard but how to know the fretboard without going Eb F G Ab Bb C D Eb all over the fretboard in all keys all day?
We need examples for major Chords
I once went into this guitar shop in Guildford many years ago and there was a chromatic scale chart on the wall. This ultra meat/bone head guitarist was standing there looking at this chromatic scale chart and he's like, "Chromatic Scales? What sort of fish do you get them on then???" LOL!!! Well funny - I felt like saying a Cuttle Fish LOL!!!
