  • This is a Home Brew Crystal radio that's missing a cats whisker and needs some cleaning up. But, there's a surprise! I discovered a pamphlet that tells you how to create a crystal radio with nothing more than a detector, headphones, antenna and ground. Will it work? Let's just say we gave it a try! After the Home Brew is cleaned up and repaired, we give it a test and add yet another radio to the completed restorations list!

Another very enjoyable video. And as usual I found it really interesting. Would it be possible for you to make a video on that very elegant looking antenna you have. I would love to build one. Once again thank you.

I tried to find the website I used to build it, but it apparently has been taken down. It's a shame because it gave step by step instructions. I'll try to do a video on how to make one but I'm behind on other projects right now. Litz wire isn't cheap but it's the main ingredient and requires about 100 feet. But basically it's two loops, an inner and outer loop. The inner loop can be switched through a tunable capacitor or fixed capacitor. The outer loop is what's connected to the radio and it's just the outer two loops of wire. I posted 3 files with the plans I used from the site when it was up and a written description. I always understood patina to mean the patterns of wear that develop from regular use and maintenance. Seeing people complain that the corrosion left over from neglect or damage is patina is asinine.

That is a great-looking antenna. Did you build that one? I am looking to build one for myself and I would like to get ahold of the build plans for that one.

I tried to find the web site I used to build it, but it's gone. I will have to put together a video with plans to do another one for the channel. I'll post the plans I worked from on the Antique Radio Archeology page. I deviated a little from the plans, but it gives you a decent start. There are 3 files.
