My Bayonet Collection

Although I do not consider myself a bayonet collector, it appears that that is a lie. Since my last bayonet collection video, I have gained quite a bit more bayonets for my collection.

I don't know if you will see this, but you can get the rust off with a brass scraper and WD40 (or oil) with 0000 steel wool. Since brass is softer then steel you can get the larger spots off without damaging the item and the rest you can do with WD40 and 0000 steel wool (nothing coarser or you will damage it)

I would agree with earlier comments, that you need to stop the live red rust before pits and eats away your nice collection.

Hi there, nice collection mate. I've got a little bit of info on that Austro-Hungarian bayonet for you. It is model M95 for Steyr-Mannlicher M95 rifle and it was originally with no finish on it but it has cut off muzzle ring. It was manufactured by BFM, Bittner, Fükert und Morgenstern in Vejprty, todays Czech Republic. That scabbard is not for it, it is some kind of German WW1 scabbard and so is the frog. According to markings it was issued to the 3. Chevaulegers-Regiment Herzog Karl Theodor (Third light cavalry regiment, duke Karl Theodor) dislocated in Dieuze, Germany.

Your Belgian bayonet frog is sadly suffering from Red Rot, it's a condition where leather if not treated will eventually crumble to dust. If possible you really should get it treated as it would be a shame if it where to fall apart. Your Yugoslavian M48 frog is actually a Austro Hungarian or bulgarian ww1 frog. The M48 is german like in style with a strap to keep the bayonet in.

Nice video! Better buy some steel wool to clean some of them before they starting to get worse. Red rust must been taking care of asap. If you see red rust it is still active on the metal. Use some oil and steel wool to scrub it off.
