Unboxing a Lifan 125cc engine

- A lot of the bikes we see or ride here at Small Bike Stuff have a Lifan engine. There are tonnes of reasons why people choose these engines over genuine Honda for their Small Bikes.
In New Zealand the main reason is due to the ease of availability combined with the price for a complete engine only around $380 NZD. A Honda rebuild with a big bore kit in New Zealand can set you back around 3 times the price of a Lifan engine.
Of course, there are tonnes of different horizontal Honda clone engines on the market, however in this Video we're dealing with a 125cc Semi automatic 4 speed - Lifan IP54FMI.
Watch as we swap one Lifan for another in Andrew's Yamaha YG Trailmaster. This bike was destined for the scrap heap before Andrew rescued and re-powered it.

That Lifan is black like Andrew's heart. Beautiful. 🖤
Nice video. Love these yamahas. Worth $8 I have one
1968 Ygs-t trailmaster 80 i have one, very rare complete sell for 3500-4000 usd restored
Ive been thinking about lifan swapping a old brock house corgi frame ive got, always wanted to see what one of these is like. Great video.
Glad it helped! This was filmed a while ago and could probably be redone better but I'm glad it's still useful.
hey im from auckland and bought a moped because of watching your videos, i have a 1995 honda giorno and ive been slowy customizing it bit by bit , thanks for creating these videos for people like me to watch and enjoy , also is there any groups in auckland that do ride outs?
Hey dude. Cheers for reaching out. That’s awesome, Giorno’s are great wee scoots! Check out Moped NZ M.C - it’s a group on Facebook.
You shoulda done a ax100 swap
That would be fun!
Good video 🤙
Thanks for watching!
What is the real word performance increase with the Lifan engine over the OEM.
OEM was 50cc and a bit slow. 50-60kph max. This can do that speed with 2 or 3 people on the bike or take one person upto 80-90kph comfortably.
Awesome video man.
I'm in Chch and just doing the Lifan 125 swap on my Cub50. Using the new motor with 50cc stamped on the side 😁
Anyway, I'm wondering who sells the HONDA 3D printed side covers.
Chur
That was a random person on Moped NZ, can't remember who - Sorry!
Hey man not sure if you've found but mbike sell the Honda side covers
@@kel-jamesdevon8190thanks man and yeah I knew that but sadly they didn't have any in. In the end I got some used original Honda ones for $5 😁
how's the engine now?
Still going great! Been in about 3 different bikes. Thrashed and ridden hard but always seems to take it well.
i mean the 125 used to be trash compared to the 110 or the 140's , nothing against you or your choice but when i used to run em a couple of years back they were renowned for bad crankshafts , dont really know if they've step up the game but YEAH
Άγγελος Κούμαρης there is a whole country of people here using 125’s in builds and they’re pretty resilient. For $350 NZD - 10,000 + KM from an engine is well worth it.
@@SmallBikeStuff i wont argue with the value for money jazz , obviously they are cheap they support every honda part since they are a copy ...not the point tho. did you have any problems with the crank in your case? used to runthe 125 on a c100 and after a 1000 kms and big launches the crank snapped..replaced it with a +6mm one and it was still running when i sold it (no oil burning whatsoever)
@@SmallBikeStuff at the end of the day it all comes down to the personal use , normal people can get at least 20.000 km out of it , was just curious if they've step up the game and fixed them ..thanks for your time, cheers !
@@johnsonmalakamalia6681 New Zealand is not Greece. We don't have any Small Honda's with the same engines that came to market in New Zealand. Lifans are really the only option, unless like me you fly to South East Asia; buy a Honda and take the engine out and send it home. Lifans are considerably cheaper. No issues with them so far. Been using them for about 5 years now. We'd take genuine Honda if we could and if you're interested in sponsoring the channel some genuine Honda motors we'd be ever so grateful!
@@SmallBikeStuff not a bad idea cause i have a couple laying around ... could you include your p.o box in the next video so when i got time and spare money for sending them over i wont be looking for it...cheers !
What chain size is it ?
Depends, can use 420 or 428 pitch sprockets.
Do you have to wear them in
yes
Do you have old one of honda i want it
No sorry!
@@SmallBikeStuff I need it where can I find it Honda japanese engine like your old one any idea
@@najeebullahkhan9597 I recommend trying countries in South East Asia, like Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. They have many Hondas.
