    I appreciate your geekiness (if that's a word) over all of the old architectural items.

    Thanks Tony, we’re staying in Tweeddale Court in a couple of weeks and your videos have really helped us plan our trip. Much appreciated! Maybe we’ll bump into you along the way. Cheers

    Tony, I am in happy tears of gratitude! The first time I went to Scotland we stayed in Edinburgh for a few lovely days. We popped into the Forsythe tea room for a cuppa one afternoon. The sweet lady who owned the shop got us our tea and cakes, then asked us (3 american girls) to "mind the shop for a minute" while she finished painting the shutters. She had crocheted all the tea cozies herself. Such friendly people we always meet in Edinburgh. I truly appreciate your videos bringing back such happy memories.

      My daughter and I stayed at Jury’s Inn. We walked up Chalmer close every morning and called into Forsyth’s Tea Room. That little lady was so friendly. We even had a Tea cosy on the Teapot!

    Yay you got to my close. We stayed at jury’s inn and if you gone a little further you would have see what’s was left of Trinity College Kirk, founded 1460.

    Can’t thank you enough for all your awesome informative videos. Thanks to you I was able to see so much & understand what I was seeing. I travel solo & felt very safe & comfortable the whole trip. Getting around was SO easy !!!! I want to see other cities in Scotland in the future. But Edinburgh had so much to see & do. Seeing the Military Tatoo & Fringe festival really added a LOT to enjoying my stay there, plus it was fun!!! You have a beautiful city & country❤️

    I just love this series so much Tony! For those of us who have spent time in Edinburgh your videos provide such a nice memory and for those who’ve never it helps to give them a feel for the place before they arrive. On our next visit we most definitely will stop for a cuppa and cakes at the tea room....but probably not on a Sunday morning :) I’m so looking forward to the next videos in the series because you’re getting down toward the area of closes we explored. There’s some beauties down there at the Holyrood end. Enjoy all your videos so much so thank you.

    This is a terrific video series Tony, enjoying seeing the closes I didn’t get to see. At Chalmer’s, are those Luna’s trainers up top? The “Gone to Church” sign is just precious, those are the things that make the best quirky memories. Will have to try next visit.
    Welcome home & many congratulations!

    South Gray's Close was my Close when I was there back in June. I was staying at the Holiday Inn Express there on Cowgate. I had walk it up and down several times a day while there. Also the walk way you like so much over the Close connects the two buildings, are for the Museum of Childhood, when I walk through it I realized it was my close right off. it was one of the steep closes there and was a bit of a workout to climb it. Guess I got my cardio everyday and did not realize it.

    I bought my clan scarf from the Kilt Maker in Paisley Close. The Gentleman was so helpful with regard to clan names and colours.

    Another nice stroll down the Closes, how many more videos will it take to reach the bottom?
    Also, when you got into Market Street, that reminded me of discovering the Scotsmans Steps earlier this year, any chance you could possibly do a video about them? Pretty please? 🙏👍👏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Tony you're not far off when you said Forsyth's tea room could be run by your gran, Christina the owner is like everyones gran. It's a tiny place , with a very Victorian feel to it, great food, fantastic cakes and deserts and all day breakfast.Probably one of the best tea rooms in Edinburgh

    This was awesome because we will be staying at Jury's Inn and now I know about using Chalmer's Close to get directly on to the Royal Mile. Thanks Tony!

    Excellent tour of the Closes, Lad. A friend and I travelled to Scotland in September 2015, my first time Home. I automatically picked up on Carrubber's Close, which came out by St. Paul's Kirk, Paisley Close and Chalmers Close. My friend and I used Chalmers' Close to go from our hotel (Jury Inn) to the Mile. Such grand memories. Sadly, as many times we went up and down Chalmers', we did not stop in at the cafe or the tea room. My friend and I are already in the talking phases of planning our next trip, and your videos of auld Edinburgh are giving me ideas of where to explore on the next trip. Slàinte.

    North Greys close has the ruins of Bishops Syneds house on the left hand side most of the stone spiral stairway steps lye in the collapsed ruins you could go in through the doorway until the Junkies took over and the council fenced it off .

    This is a weird question, but I've been admiring the material of your jackets. Can you please show off the jackets, their brand and where I can find them when we come to Edinburgh in March. Why? I want to copy your style. Thanks.

      @ClanBroonford  5 років тому

      To be honest, i have no ides. Had the jacket for a few years, and i can't remember where i got it. Sorry.

    Hi Tony! I app reactivate how respectful you are of people’s homes and space. I’m sure it is not always pleasant to have tourists randomly showing up on one’s doorsteps. Especially in such a tourist heavy city. Question, I notice some of the closes have quite a bit of tagging/graffiti. Is this teenage boredom? Gang activity? Are there some areas we should steer clear of? Thanks again for these videos. I’m looking forward to arriving in your beautiful country November 23. I’ll also be traveling out to the Uphall/Broxburn/Linlithgow areas where my gg grandmother and her family were from. Do you know anything about the Shale Mining Museum? Would you consider doing a video there? That’s the work my family was in before immigrating to the US in 1882.

    • @ClanBroonford
      @ClanBroonford  6 років тому

      Hi, no there is not gang activity. It’s mostly just bored teenagers. If you are mostly in the centre and tourist areas you should be fine. I have not been to that museum, or really know anything about it. Does sound like something I would enjoy, as my grandfather was a miner all his working life.

      Hi Chris, We visited Edinburgh last summer, walked all over the city at all times of day and even a few nights, and never felt there was anything to worry about.

    • @jeffporterfield4401

      Hi Chris, I was there back in June on holiday and like Amy I found the city to be very safe, was there alone and never felt unsafe either day or night. It was very relaxing to totally enjoy the sights of that beautiful city with no worries.

    Are any of the Closes considered historical and protected from development that closes them to the public?

    Love these it bothers me to see the graffiti. I guess they just don’t see the beauty. Shoes over a wire means drug and gang activity in the USA. Hopefully not there. Can’t wait for the next one.
