We do a house a week. We straighten every house with the cordless planer. Been using the same planer for 3 years... never had an issue with power or run time. 1 battery per house at most and no bloody cords having to walk back throigh doors where you can just skip through the frame when done to check the other side of the wall if needed.
Another great review guys but just one comment that dust port cover twists to come off you don't pull it off with your fingernails I didn't realise it at first either.
I've been waiting on this one gents. I have the Milwaukee. It's ok, but it's brushed and frankly not up to what I expected from them. Seems Makita tools are always smoother running machines, too. Taper that extraction detent lug or the latching piece and it'll be like butter. Yet another tool added to the gotta-have-it list. The wife will be so happy for me................ Ha! Super review, men. Keep up the great work.
Another great review guys. I took your advice on the battery powered chainsaw, after watching your review and ended up buying the EGO 56v beast. What an awesome little machine, i absolutely love it and will hopefully be happily using it for many years to come.
Had mine a week, the chip ejector cap is a bit fiddly but got a knack to it now - I just twist the moveable edge bit of the cap up towards me and pull out. Reattach straight in line with the plastic catch thing and slap it over the catch to click shut (don’t know if that made any sense whatsoever!) Awesome planer though.
When building a house, before plaster is sick to wall studs, they must be checked for straightness. Some will need to be buzzed down, others packed up. Dwain
Thanks for this review. Not being a professional I would settle for the "old" model. However being a "lefty" the new model is quite interesting for having the dust port on both sides!
As a Milwaukee lover but user of Milwaukee and Makita I have to say it's really frustrating that Milwaukee doesn't have a good planer. They have all these great framing and fit of tools literally everything you need drops saws framing gun finishing gun etc but they don't have a powerful planer which I'm sure they could make. And I can't go Makita only either because they really lack all the guns. Come on Milwaukee show us your king and give us a crazy powerful compact fuel planer. Great review guys love all your videos. I'll probably end up getting this
Good review as always.. Is it me or does it piss you off also because you have a good makita 18/36v tool (or anything else) and then outcomes the new BL model.. Very tempting.. But, expensive upgrade.. Such is life.
Solid review as always guys. Have the original brushed model myself and am very happy with it. Trouble will be is nobody in their right mind will be upgrading. Going slower on a pass is no big drama in the game of when you do need to plane something down. However if someone doesn't own a planer and is in the Makita platform then if the price difference isn't too juicy the Brushless will be the way to go. Thumbs up and keep the content coming! Still waiting for a battery nailer from Makita - They filed for patents in Feb 2020 for a framing nailer, fingers crossed!
Great reviews guys, thanks. Looking forward to using this, picked one up but havent used it yet. Here in Ontario Canada, its extremely rare for carpenters to use one of these on site, its time to up the quality!!! Also, seeing those shavings come out....Im going to be hesitant to hook this sucker up to my festool lol.
I've had my Makita 18v planer six years. Apart from a new switch two years ago, never let me down. No way I'd use a mains powered one now - got fed up of the cord snagging at the end of a pass, when planing door edges.
What is the dope on the new range of Makita? The new Battery platform XGT. I have always stuck with Makita as they didn't mess around with it to much. The last change was the Star but the new batteries were mostly backwards compatible.
after just purchasing the dewalt battery planer the chip ejection has now become the first and most important feature on these planers man what a heap of $h!t the dwealt is nearly every swipe i have to un clog it i am going to sell it and get this!!!.... hopefully one those battery converters will work on it for the dewalt battery haha thanks for this review
I put an eBay battery converter on it to use my dewalt 18-20v batteries on it works flawlessly love this thing and it’s cheaper then the dewalt and rebates deeper and goes to 3mm dewalts 2mm--if it doesn’t clog up first...it will!!
The only reason I have the Dewalt planer, is because I got it for free. Lol. I love it though. Never thought I'd use it as often as I do now. But if it was my choice I'd have the Makita since that's what my main battery platform is.
The littlest chamber groove might be in the middle as it might make it easier to control, off to the side might make it harder to use than it is at the moment.
Love the review fellas. I always use solid blades in my makita planners. I have never used my nails to remove the clip deflector on the corded version. I have always twisted the piece to jump the raised section and the remove.
I have the Dewalt my only complaint is when planning the wood chips always seem to get clogged inside ..not sure if its just me but I've used other planners and that doesn't seem to happen and would be good if they had chip extraction left and right

You twist the dust port, then pull to take it off 👍
Thanks Andrew

Thanks Sean. Some tools just sell themselves huh!? Enjoy
You guys are so relaxed together. Great work...
😊 thank you

Cordless for straightening walls. All the way and battery runtime is never an issue.
Excellent! Just don't tell Mike 😂

thanks Laz. Yep Makita have the planer market almost wrapped up. Milwaukee need an update for sure!
twist the dust port thingy to remove no need to pull that piece back
I have the corded version, it's the same way, twist and it comes right off.

Cordless is so convenient right?! Cheers John
I have both and the new one is a nice step up and worth the premium

I’ve got this plane and had it wound all the way to max depth and it buzzed old dry Oregon at the full 82mm wide and it didn’t break a sweat.
I had the old planner, never i thought they needed to make a brushless
hard to disagree :D
Just the run time needed improving for me
I agree but occasionally I have to rip 20mm off a 6m length of 70x35 and thats when a brushless one would go better.
Have one got it week before lock down has sat unused for 3month it better start earning me some money soon.
@@kizzjd9578 why don't you take 18 off with a saw and then dress it with the plane 20mm seems unnecessary
Looks like I'll be adding Makita to the Yellow and green , would be nice if Hikoki released a new model.

Aws- auto start wireless system
ADT- automatic torque drive technology
I am on my third corded makita planer ,the bearings are rubbish, I hope these new planers have improved.
Hi guys with the chip cover when it's on to take it off first turn it up it comes off the ltab and to put it on below the tab and turn upwards
yep yep thanks

@@OZToolTalk You bet. Can't beat it. I still do like the Makita and if I ever found someone that wanted to do a straight trade, I probably would lol.
@@evictioncarpentry2628 hardly a straight trade.. makita owner be downgrading 😂
Im a chippy and i know alot of chippies and no one uses a corded planer for frame straighting always cordless these days

Best planer

Yeah that's happens a bit on mine too, but I don't think it's much-needed worse than other brands. (Dwain)
mine is always clogging up, it didn't seem to do it half as much when i 1st got it, but now it's getting unbearable
I've always liked Makita planers because you can still use the heavy duty sharpenable blades ,is this still possible with this planer ?
Yep
Guys is this planner worth buying for 120€ used for three years in home use and in good condition?
Is this planer for Hardwood or only Softwood?
Either, but obviously it will go faster/deeper in softwood.
good review, but would like to see more footage used on different types of timber guys , soft and hard wood alike ... not enough of in use footage
fair !
Great video once again. Love your channel. Never stop doing what you doing . Great stuff 👍👍
Thanks man. Bourne forever! (Dwain)
Just get ths brushed one ,seems less bulky than the brushless one as well.
the brushed one is a kickass tool still.
Can you please state the country of manufacture in future reviews?
Watch carefully, and you can see it says on it made in china
I am comparing the corded version to the LXT version. Is there any reason to get the corded over the cordless? Thanks
unlimited runtime. might have more power, not sure. cheaper probably. others might have a better answer.
Now I’m confused 🤷♂️ I was going to straighten my walls at school
haha
Price
Compare it with the rigid octane
do my laundry
I've not used an electric planer for the last 8 year.
wow nice
Stick abit of duck tape under the plastic chip ejector. To pull it up easier
nice
The chip ejector is a twist to remove design
* you don't pull the ejection cover, you twist it.
Is Makita made in China?
Depends on the model.
They make tools in China, Romania, UK, Japan and the US.
Too much talking and chatting , just review the tool please .
