Love Makita, love cordless, however it's easier to find your corded tools when you've put them down somewhere, they're always at the end of the wire.

Hello from Canada! I've been in commercial construction for over 30 years. Great video! I have almost all those tools. About the cordless "SDS" hammer drill, they just don't last and I'll tell you why. One of our company's main tools used is the corded sds hammer drill, lots of power all the time. I bought this hammer drill for myself on the jobsite. The freedom of no cord setup was the key to productivity, or so I thought. I was happly with the performance of the drill and have plenty of batteries to keep it going. The problem started when I lent it out to some trusted co-workers on site. They were working in an area where they would have to frequently setup over 200' electrical cords multipule times in the working shift. I lent them the drill for a few weeks, until that task was completed. When I looked for the drill afterwards, I couldn't find it. It was a large site, so when I called them inquiring about the drill, they started chuckling over the phone. They had been moved to another site and took the drill with them. So you see... on the jobsite, they just don't last! I did get the drill back no worse for wear, but that's what you have to be prepared for when you own tools other people envy.

Something I just found out about the Makita hard cases recently totally blew my mind. That is that a lot of the individual cordless tool hard cases have a hidden storage compartment in the upper lid of the case. You can pull up the skin of the upper case (the side with the Makita logo) and inside that half of the case there's a secret compartment for drill bits and whatnot. I've had my Makita drill for over 6 years now and just found this out the other day and my brain melted.

    Red LEGO’s over here.
I was looking to upgrade my tools, & team Red, had, & still has a tool rep on staff in my local store. (Shoutout to Tyler!) Honest & informative, so I walked down that path.
If Makita had their tool semi truck, in the parking lot that day I might have chosen a different path. I was told Makita has the largest tool platform.
Quality construction, a great work ethic, & the right tool for job, be it Blue, Red, Yellow, or Green, says a lot about who you are.

Thanks Scott another great episode. I have been a Makita fan since I think 1992 when I bought their first cordless drill, which is still working today. Glad to see you are trying out the rear handle skillsaw, it is a beast and likely on the heavy side for a lot of your finish work, but for framing it rocks. I actually just bought a 2nd one so I can keep one at my sheet goods cutting station plus have one with me while I am framing. One tool I have thought you should get is the drywall screwgun. Having the depth control is awesome for much more than drywall, any time you are sinking screws into a soft material. I recently built a set of 18 shutters for a house renovation and the screwgun let me sink perfect screws into the soft cedar I was using. Keep up the great work.

Only problem I've had with makita is the 6ah batteries.
I took them back 3 times and then gave up on them. Went back to the 5ah.
The problem is the contact springs, the 6ah has double the contact springs of the 5ah in the same space, they just bend/wear too easily.
Other than that, they are epic tool manufacturers. Cost/quality ratio is on point.

I had to knock some of them out to put in an extraction fan, but all the reciprocating saws were too big and would've gone through the wall on the other side. I have Makita brushless tools at work and the batteries are empty fast and they break down all the time! In my freetime i use brushless tools from Hitachi/Hikoki and they are a winner for me! They didn’t failed me after 6 years of hard labor.

Yes, I have a makita 18v concrete drill and it also chews through the batteries, mine isnt brushless though and people say the brushless ones are way better on batteries, got a 240v conc drill for bigger jobs. Yes get a 125mm makita grinder, i have one, highly recommended, find it really usefull, even use it to cut hardie board etc with diamond blade

My very first cordless tool was one of the legendary Makita 9.6V drills that I bought 20 some years ago. That thing was a beast. I still have it. My first cordless tools for pro-use were Makita. I bought a standard 18V drill/driver set maybe... 12 years ago? Something like that. I used them for mechanical and electrical work for years. Finally I burned out the driver by running dozens of monster tek screws through 1/4" steel (not the driver's fault, really), and I when I went to get a new set I ended up switching to Milwaukee because their range of tools was so much broader, which was important to me because I do electrical, plumbing, and all manner of stuff, and I wanted to stick to one platform. I still have that original Makita drill, though, and it still works just fine. I'm a fan of Makita, but I'm not really their target audience.

Scott Brown, "Like a kid showing his Lego off or something." Lol. So well put. There are so many good tools out there the problem is sticking to the battery and not much else. Once you get into a battery platform/brand, you kinda' need to dance with who brung ya'... I came from Makita corded stuff and then jumped to the 18v stuff --haven't been disappointed yet (actually this chit is pretty amazing) but to each his/her own. Thing I most like about Makita --I've never been able to break anything (and I'm rough on tools) including the old corded stuff that's going on decades old...

    Great video.
Love my makita gear. I have a couple yellow tools, but when I went to cordless it became evident that the battery platform was going to have to be settled on.
Many of my makita corded tools are 20+ and still going.
Recently getting into the box system led to my also kitting out my work vehicular to accommodate the sizes of the box. Brilliant.
I’m glad I saw this because using a box like this to house the smaller boxes of bits etc makes sense. I wish the boxes and nailers were more compatible but I guess unless I became a framer or roofer I suppose I will be fine. I don’t need nailers like I do drivers and drills. 😂

Most of my tools are Makita. I recently purchased their cordless circular saw. I got a great deal, 200.00 US with the 5 amp hr battery. I worked with a couple of riggers and they had both the 18 volt and the 36 volt and they said they both loved the 18 volt but thought the 36 volt was a disappointment. That was enough for me. I am loving my new saw.

The Makpac's are made by Tanos who also makes the Systainers for Festool. The T-Loc's are superior as far as ease of use, but you can file down the tabs on the old style lock tabs and use a little white lithium grease for a much smoother operation. Still a hassle dealing with 4 tabs vs. the T-Loc, but I use the old ones in my shop for storage and take the T-Locs out to the job. Nice video, thanks for sharing!

On the track saw makita or festool !!?? Honestly mate as an owner of both as a skilled carpenter your missing nothing the makita is just as good as the festool and like you said $400 cheaper!!!! No brainer!! Yes there are differences like you mentioned dust extraction ...I would say festool are always a leader on that for sure and adjustment better with the festool on most tools so of a doing furniture etc worth the extra $$$ just remember all tools can be great or rubish depending on who is wielding them !!!

    here's my method :
1/ corded tools and 18v makita line in makpaks/hitachi systainers, all stored in the van.
2/ Large handtools in bosch l'boxx (larger than systainers)
3/ t-lock systainers (more versatile than makpak) on the go for my 12v bosch line in the front of the van (I always bring my 12v tools with me) and festool sortainers, SYS SB, SYS TB for consumables ALWAYS WITH ME.
So when my 12v line is not enough, I check corded or 18v tools in the van.

I have the Makita multitool, good for basic use but I ended up getting the Ryobi version with adjustable head, tool free blade change & squeeze trigger & found it a much superior tool to the Makita. The Ryobi is the one I grab out of the truck every time even though they sit right next to each other.
I also have the extremely expensive Makita barrel grip jigsaw & used it for 1 month. It has since been removed from the truck & sits at home meanwhile being replaced with the Ryobi version. The Makita barrel jigsaw is easily the most dangerous & garbage tool I own because of that push button system. This is one tool that NEEDS to be recalled. Can't express how much I hate it. I do love the Makita impact driver, circular saw, router, impact drill & drywall gun.so not all of their tools are crap. But I am looking for my next brand after the two previously mentioned.
