I see a lot of comments about high crime rates. I have lived in Germantown since 2008 and I never felt like crime was so high I needed to move. I had 2 children here and it has been perfectly safe. Like most cities there's going to be crime, they generally happen in certain pockets of the city. Stay away from them, be mindful and vigilant.when you're out and you should be fine. For those moving to Germantown do your research on the community/neighborhood you chose. @Kevin Grolig Thanks for the great video!
I moved to Germantown from Melbourne, Florida when I was a kid and it was a culture change. Good O Kemp Mill Records, Lakeforest Mall and Chuck Levins Music Store where my hot spots. One thing about Germantown is you can always get some really good seafood there as in many parts of Maryland. So from age 14 to 21 I grew up there - such great memories. I still miss that lil town even after moving to Ohio 30yrs ago. To walk Clopper Road or Game Preserve Road at night was special LoL! Almost died on Game Preserve Road in a terrible car crash. There used to be a rope swing by the stream there? My wife and our kids are from Ohio but every year we make our trip to OC and make a pit stop in Germantown on our way back because thats the story of my life right now Lol! :)
The Chuck Levins store is the best my parents bought me a trumpet during elementary school. It's also crazy you mention Ohio because today I learned today on Instagram Maps that there's also a Germantown in Ohio that's ALSO IN Montgomery County 😂😂😂, this one fascinated me, which led me to this video
I'm guessing this accident of yours happened underneath that spooky bridge where you have to wait for the car to pass through!? I hope you're doing okay now and that the accident hasn't put any major scars on you
This video was awesome, thanks so much! We just returned from a trip to Germantown which confirmed for us that it's where we want to move to. This video was very helpful, especially regarding the hospital, which we were wondering about. The soccer plex has an archery course!!!?? That is FANTASTIC!!
The Cloppers Mill West Community in Germantown is a hidden gem! The amount of house you get for what you pay is amazing and Northwest Highschool is rated pretty well.
My wife and I moved here to Germantown September 2020 and we are loving it here. Everything is so close and the schools are great. I work at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville so the commute is not bad at all, considering I used to commute from essentially BWI airport every single day! Thanks for the info! We still have plenty of places to check out!
Welcome! I'm a few years late to your comment but I hope you have settled in nicely. I settled here in 2008 from Columbia MD and raised my beautiful family here. It was hard leaving my utopia of Columbia but I have to say going back now I am happy I did. It is so congested there, Germantown is very reminiscent of what Columbia was when I grew up there. Definitely check out Butlers Orchard and Waters Orchard. They Doc Waters cidery is a great outdoor space to enjoy cider and the outdoors.
@@sirintornstantripop173I was there a couple of Summers ago and I was so shocked to see so many white women with mixed babies😂, never seen anything like it even here in Philly.
Good information. Thank you. I've seen some condos pop up for sale that I'm interested in. Nice to know some of the area perks before I head down from NY to check the place out. My cousin is a firefighter in Bethesda and he has been begging me to move to MontCo for years lol
@@KevinGrolig Thanks! You too! One thing that does concern me is safety. It's probably tops on my list, along with commute. I've seen some people recently say online that the crime rates and public nuisances in both Germantown and Gaithersburg are getting uncomfortable and there are certain parts you shouldn't be near at night. I know every major town has their own issues and such and I'm sure it's NOTHING like NYC, but part of the reason I'm bailing on NY is the crime rates and high cost of living (you have no idea how high taxes and real estate costs are up here on Long Island! Lol). Just how safe are those two towns?

Yeah I grew up in Germantown and it's shit now compared to when I was a kid, they built up on all the places where we used to play in fields and hills.
@@mariahhumphrey8438 That will be true of all metropolitan areas. I had the same childhood growing up in Columbia MD with strawberry fields across the street from peach orchards. and now it's just difficult to breathe there.
That's funny you say that, I just watched a video before this one (Paths #86 - History of Germantown MD) and it dates back to the Native American Indians.

Great video! You left out the Walmart Supercenter (Which I believe is the only one in MoCo) and the Top Golf that also just opened last year.
