Gender and politics has nothing to do with whether or not someone is capable of empathy or of nurturing the person you love. Stop injecting your politics into every goddamn thing.
Stay strong Marine. It gets better...trust me. Im 22 yrs from my war and with help Ive come a long way. You will be a father. And a damn good one. Stay at it. And if you need to vent reach out. There are millions like us out there. Just take it easy on yourself. Eventually the guilt will give way to rationale. And you will begin to heal the loss of your brothers. Take care.
I'm a Army Ranger vet did 11 years in the Army did serveral combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan I also suffer from P.T.S.D and like yourself was medically discharged from the Army and felt the same way you do about being let go from the military stay strong Marine you will be a awesome father God has blessed you with a great woman to be there with you and help you threw your struggles I found comfort in helping are brothers In arms and being there for them and also sharing my experience with P.T.S.D with them it's helped me more than I can put into words to express what good it's done for me and them keep your head up high Marine time and opening up to someone helped me tremendously I hope and pray it helps you to may God bless you brother and all of are brothers that have been down range or is heading down range
You are one of the strongest people I have ever known. You have come SO far, and have a woman at your side who is incredibly intelligent - with a heart of gold. You will be an awesome father someday, don't you worry about that. You WANT to be there - that makes all difference in the world. You have healed and grown and achieved so much in the last 10 years Ian...don't stop now. You can do whatever you set your mind to.
I’ve been dealing with Traumatic Brain Injury since February due to a 50 Cal explosion. It’s given me horrible migraines depression and insomnia. It’s the risk we take I feel your pain brother. You are a hero
MrSapper21 I could deal with my ex boyfriends ptsd I knew him before his first tour and I was concerned how soon they sent his unit back soon just weeks after getting back and knew he wasn't the same that was heart breaking but I was still so determined to stay with him we just lost touch for many reasons off and on over the years but he's now married etc there are people who have patience and sometimes we all fall for the wrong people too
Ian, You are a SURVIVOR. You must carry on and live your life!! You are a Hero to me and millions of other Americans. Never forget that!! Never. You are going to be a GREAT DAD. Lots of Love and Bunches of Hugs coming at you from South Carolina.❤️😉❤️😉❤️😉❤️
Holy crap this made my cry....my boyfriend is about to go into the marines but he has had military experience already and he reminds me exactly of Mr. Welch...from the late nights to the smoking to dark images he draws to the way he needs to sometimes be physically reminded he's in a safe place to how he has so many triggers that can set him off...ECT God, all I want to do is hold him and take away all his pain but I can't and that kills me....but despite that I couldn't be prouder of him :')
Praying for you. I too have suffered with PTSD since 1993 and it is a terrible thing to live with. It's a battle in ones own head that won't stop. I must say that it is my faith in God and reading his word regularly that helps me through the tough days. He says he will never leave us or forsake us, where that is all the real world does.
Ian you give voice to so many of us that feel the same as you. Thank you for taking a public voice for us. Though not of your service (I'm Army), I feel the same pain as you. This dude is a hero! Thank you to all the heroes on this July 4th weekend.my two baby boys sleep in peaceTonight under their blanket of sacrifice. God bless them and our country.
You are a hero in my heart. I was medically discharged as well and it broke my heart as well. God bless you brotha and remember that you are a hero in my eyes! Thankyou for your service!
Please let war be a LAST solution, for the experiences that Ian has to go through every day and for so many others like him. Thank you for your service, Ian.

Thoughts and prayers to you Vinnie. Hang in there brother. Do the best that you can do, and measure yourself to no one. Go easy on yourself and I thank you, for what its worth.
I am a Marine, and I will like to make a humble suggestion, use you thoughts to command your subconscious mind to bring to you healing, trust in this and continue with pure faith and I promise you it will help you 100 percent...
Wow...to this Marine and others like him, of all branches, thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do for our country!! You are always in my prayers!!! And just a word to Katie, thank you for your service as well. Military SOs are a special kind and you are a wonderful woman!!!
Yeah muammar fucktard, support us. I absolutely LOVED dumping mags into hajis. Baqubah was my bitch and I busted nuts all over diyala on a daily basis. Fuckem all in the neck!
+Derrek Cassel this isn't what were about. your giving us a bad name brother to all of you your giving us all a bad name. the only time we should be hostile ruthless and violent is when innocent lives are at danger and even then we should operate precisely to the code of conduct. only engage when engaged. or any military age male with a firearm, rpg, ect.
I appreciate your video. I knew the two young men on that track. Chanowongse was my mech for about a year. I lost several very good friends during that push. Anyway, I think this video is great. I came across it while doing a presentation on Contemporary Health Issues. I chose PTSD because of my own ordeals. Man, you're not alone. Not at all. You'll get through it. I personally began working on motorcycles in the garage and talking with my wife. Semper Fi and God Bless.
As a combat veteran and 20 years of service myself. I can feel this guys pain. In fact I made the mistake of watching this video and my anxiety shot up through the roof. Semper Fi brother. Hang in there. Having an understanding woman is half the battle. I wondered how I'd be a good father too but Im killing it! No pun...BWAHAHAHAHAHA.
To Katie,You have our prayers from my family to yours, also thank for taking care of this man he deserves you and your kindness and will make it through hard times with you by his side. From the Americans that appreciate all you have done and what you have lost, Thank you.
One step at a time, one day at a time, the great thing is, you have someone to share that step, each day. Make a conscious effort to make the most of it. Lots of Love for the both of you. Enjoy life.
To whoever needs to hear it: A soldier with missing limbs, brusies, trauma, but who has a mission, is a force to be reckoned with. But a soldier without a mission is lost. Make recovery your next mission, you deserve it 💪
Wow. His girl has to be one of the bravest people I've seen. Enthusiastically volunteering for that post. To stand beside him in honor, scrifice, love and joy. Plus, the filmakers did a fine job makeing it. Loved the still images, they spoke thousands of words. So where do I post where only those who sacrifice themselves get to respond?
I tried to explain what I went through in Iraq to my parents, but they don't understand and they tell me to let it go. I can't, its impossible. Thank you for telling your story. Hoooorah.
Lots of us died on deployment and then came home. You are a hero. You are actually making more progress than your an see. You are fighting. Push through, as you always have. We support you Marine.
God bless you both. I know it might not seem like it sometimes, but there are a lot of people out there who care about you and are grateful for all you have done. We don't always have the loudest voice on television or in the papers, but we are here. To us, you ARE our heroes. Stay strong and keep fighting. You are not alone. For Katie: 1 Corinthians 13
It's sad for a person to go away in a wrong war, how many innocents have gone becuase of them, for "Searching chemical weapons" when they found non. It's all about money, killing innocents and spearing real heros is just sad.
Dude you are a hero. Thank you for your service. I have anxiety from no reason other than a chemical imbalance in my brain and its hell. I can only imagine how PTSD is on top of Panic, etc. I really hope the best for you and your mate is a special lady for hanging in there, some sorry ass women leave when a man is down. Let Prayer in your life it will change things for the best. Thank you again my fellow American brother.
I would personally like to thank you for your service. I am 16 years old and to me it seems that not enough respect and graditiude is paid to our vetrans. God bless you and I hope the best for you.
You have to let it go. You can't let it eat you up to death. I know people who fought in wars and then came back to their little children and wives. This was my grandfather. Another was my cousins grandfather, both in Europe. Yes it's hard, but you have to let it go.
It is not something you can just let go off. There are voices inside of your head when it's quiet. You wake up in cold sweat thinking about it. You will stop thinking about it. I still sometimes catch myself driving in the middle of the road avoiding cardboard boxes on the side of the roads because I'm afraid of IEDs. It's not possible to let go, the things that traumatized you just kept coming and you were so scared so many months of your life that you can't stop thinking about it afterwards. A lot of my friends tell me to just let it go and move on, but it's not something you can just move on from.
WOW your exactly right I'm not a vet myself,I never had to fight or kill for my way of life.other people already did that for me.its a shame that some people that make comments on here don't understand or appreciate that.they should forget about the politics or the right and wrong and just thank god it wasn't them that had to make this sacrifice.my father said when he got home from Vietnam he was messed up for years, but he had a family to support so he had to shake it off and get to work.and just deal with it .but he only did one tour,I've often said it's not right to send these guys more than once.its no wonder their screwed up.i say if you do one tour of duty in combat, and you're lucky enough to come home in one piece you shouldn't have to go again.it should be someone else's turn, nobody likes the idea of a draft, but it's not fair to make someone go numerous times.
Thanks for doing what you could to help out America & Iraq. You're a great Marine. Your girl is amazing! My husband was born in Iraq & I was born in US. He was a Soldier as well. He has PTSD things happen in his sleep. I used to be very anti-war, I still am but since I heard my husband's story, I have compassion for my family, friends, strangers, & war heros in both countries. War is so ugly. I feel like I even see a war in these comments. Words are what start all confrontation and start wars.
Your comments and readings Ian - your experience - they should be published. You are very well spoken. You are a HERO. Your story should be out there, more than on UA-cam or WSJ. You are not alone, and yet so many of us who have not been there need to know and understand. You are they guy we went to high school with, the guy at the grocery, or the guy who is a friend of a friend that we see post stuff on Facebook. Please send this video to every publishing house.
Got to stop feeling sorry for yourselves. Pain is good. It makes you know your still alive. People that have a chip on there shoulder, always striving, are the ones that are most successful. Just laying around, playing video games, and taking antidepressants is not going to get you out of your personal hell. Get up and do something anything!
STFU. How do you know he isn't doing anything? He's an artist...introspective and he will deal with it in his own way. Rehash when you had three combat tours. Fucking moron.,
Don't act tough on the on the internet. I don't take kindly to disrespect. I said it more in a general sense. People need to stop feeling sorry for themselves and move ahead. I respect his service but back in the day there was no PTSD. He signed up, he knew what he was getting himself into, and you got to live with the decisions you make. If you need help get help.
an idea I do know is you cant go through life feeling sorry for yourself. You can't go through life thinking somebody owes your something. We are all subjects of free wills. You can be moping around all day no matter if you were in war or wherever your from. You got to get up and do something with your life. Everybody has been through hard time you have to pick yourself up by your boot straps and do something positive in your life. Get a job, join a gym, join a club. You can't be sitting at home, taking antidepressants, watching tv, and feeling sorry for yourself!!! What don't you understand! I understand soldiers have to do things in war that I may not comprehend but I supports them 100% and they should have no guilt on what they need to do. I'm not protesting soldiers. I support them.
Vet healing from back spinal herniations l5 s1 stenosis and ddd to the point I could not sleep at all. Pain brings intense desire to heal and try anything out. I was not able to do or want surgery because my service caused anxiety and my housing stability was not good. Long story short I got a Teeter Inversion Upside Down Hanging Fold Up Table and near daily use for the last 3 years plus other things I have done along the same lines of intense stretching breaking down scar tissue breaking down and repairing has allowed me to heal those nerves where I can now sleep and surgery will not be needed. My service in different tthen yours Navy. But service members risiking all regardless now with intense desire to heal. One problem I really noticed that scared me to death was never having a girlfriend again and being able to have sex. So that really motivated me to attempt intense daily therapy. ANd like I said the Teeter was the major starting point and now I can say that I will be a better lover to my next girlfriend. A female is great healing for a guy and I have really attempted to heal myself so I can do just that and be as healthy and available as possible, so that a girl will be in my future. There is nothing worse then thinking you will not have a mate, when you are far to young and brave and aware to know that you have so much to offer, yet physically you are not there healthy enough, risking all for your own country and orders. But again I fight for the day of peace and healing. And in the fight I find light even in the dark. And it is dark and sadness is not great but at least we are still thinking and we have our ability to fight and get better with that amazing ability to heal if we attempt to heal. The other part I forgot to mention is I basically became a very simple guy with food organic vegetables fruits spirulina raw honey ginger cinnamon meat in the form of turkey and olive bread make up my daily food intake. Simple clean diet allows the body to have the nutrition to rebuild when you are doing the things to break it down and rebuild the temple of you. Be that warrior. We are already not feeling well. I was already over the edge and so I had this only 1 way point of view nothing to loose and did what it took. I share my path. I hope it helps a bit.
Listen, Some people in this world have a future, a destiny, some are born to be doctors, some Bankers and Police officers. And some are born to be warriors, those people are different to others, For instance me, i don't know why but all i want in life is to be in the Army, to face combat, to have a brotherhood with the men i serve with. There are people like that, We are not war junkies or Psychopath's. Like i said every one has a destiny.
this is what comes out of pointless war...i feel for this guy...he is a hero...and hopefully he will get better...ive lost a few members to the war..thank you for your service marine sir
stop going to war without knowing why. It always amazes me why US soldiers just go to places to kill without knowing why. Half the people in the Korean war, Vietnam war nor war with Japan knew where Korea, Japan, Vietnam was! You've only made some evil people very , very rich. The men on the other side , though, I would understand because they're defending their country. What's more amazing is..the very people that were lied to in Vietnam send their children whom they claim to love to fight for another lie!
They know why. It's because the Middle East is full of fucking lunatic Islamic Extremist who terorrize the rest of the world all because we don't agree with therpir religious beliefs.
Truthseeker Its like chess ok?The soldiers are the Pawns who are controlled by the king and queen otherwise known as the Government. There just do what there told.
I don't see how killing in Afghanistan is making anyone rich, how is the government making money off this can you tell me that, a lot of money in ammunition and artillery is spend.
The Messiah will Pray to the Father for us to have the Spirit of God, For a Teacher, and Comforter, Forever, in the bible book of John, chapter 14, verse 26. Praying for others has helped the P.T.S.D. from viet-nam, in a major way...Hang in there brothers, and sisters... The Messiah will help...
Its very hard dealing with someone you love who has PTSD just because its hard to know what to do to help them. I give this women ALOT of respect. My boyfriend has PTSD, it disables him from getting/keeping a job, staying in touch with ANYONE from before he was in the service, and most of all though ANYTHING that has to do w/ the service brings him to tears.I love him sooo much and am so proud of him for serving our country and this video really hit home for me. PTSD is an everyday struggle = (
I got nothing but respect for this guy. He even said that he wanted to go back, to keep fighting, and that the medical discharge broke his heart. This is a Marine. This is the mind of a good soldier. This is the commitment and conviction that makes a Marine a Marine. Semper Fidelis to the Corps.
hey man i just want to thank you without you guys we would all be dead you saved america im very sorry about your losses but your friends are in a better place now just remember that their war is over i hope you get better and again thank you soooo much!
Could never find a way to express all the gratitude I have for you all. So I'll just say thank you and I'm glad you made it back safely. Hope you can find peace and start a new life again here.
i dont care what people say or what they think. i thank you and fellow military personal like you for doing what you do everyday. you are the ones who make this country great and i support yall 100%. agin thank you.
God bless you Ian, and God bless you Katie! thank you for your service to our country, Katie thank you for your service to Ian. you are a beautiful soul.
I wish I could personally write to them and tell them. Thank you for being my hero. Thank you for protecting our country. Thank you for doing things you didnt want to do but all bad things come with great jobs sometimes. Im glad you made it home. Im sorry home isn't home anymore, but i have hopes and prayers that it will be home one day again. In your mind, body, and home in texas. God Bless you and Katie.
Ian, you are a hero! My respect to you. Saying thank you for you service just isn't enough. I wish there were words I could say to comfort you. Maybe you should join a support group with other vets because those that haven't been through it can't understand or help you the way other vets would.
Rah, brother. Make the best of life while your living it, and never forget how many people love you and care about you. Thats what keeps me going day after day...
i know what its like to deal with friends that have ptsd i sat up for months on end running on little sleep talking to a best friend in afgan wen he was at war and to this day i am one of the only few ppl that can calm him down no matter what i kno what katie is going through she is a brave soul i give her props... i support our men and women that fight for our country and come back with these problems thank you to all that give your life and all to our country to keep us free.. thank you
this soldier is a hero. he is my hero, our hero. we need more people like him. Men like him are the reason we have freedom. i thank him. my heart goes out to him and those who paid the ultimate price, their lives.
Welch, I served in 3/4 as well, back in the OIF 2, 3, and 4 days. I was in India Company, WPNS, and I think I remember serving with you. It's good that you're out there for us select few, and having your's and our stories be heard.
OH, and a ton of respect to Ian and Katie Welch, you two are more heros than any of us just for what you have to deal with on a daily basis. I wish you both luck till the end of your days.
Your not lost Marine, I feel exactly the same way everyday since my medical discharge this last October. I wish I knew how to find direction or had someone as strong as your Katie to help me stand up some times!!
I'm forever grateful I found my soulmate that helps me every single day.. I find ways to help her as much as I can to show her where a team and shes not a care taker of me and my PTSD/physical injuries.
wow man,,, Got me crying bro,, dont worry i know with the way you feel about the rest of your men and your girl youll be a execellent father and your daughter will love you either way man, keep your chin up!
My man shouldn't have to live like this. He deserves a better life as in everyone suffering from war. Please for god sake be the voice to stop these wars.
very touching. I was with you Welch with 3/4 OIFI, II, and III and trust, I feel your pain and still going through it, mentally. If you wasnt there, you wouldnt understand. SGT Reed, 3/4 HHS till I rest.
I too am a Veteran and feel deeply for my comrade. The reason I posted the below information is because it will take individuals like us to stand up and be heard in order to address issues which impact Ian and many of our brothers and sisters in arms. The VA needs fixed, Veterans benefits restored, and much more.
Now that's a woman right there. Much respect.
It's in a womans nature to nurture but it takes a strong woman to stay. Love, loyalty and strength is what is needed.
In a way they're are a different type of soldier on the home front.
I admire them all.

Hopeful Agnostic oh sorry, we didn't think Liberals had hearts or acceptance in them. We're just going of what we see.
THANK U JESUS CHRIST for bringing her into his life
"Show me a hero and I'll show you a tragedy"

So it is okay to kill the Iraqis? Why, they're muslims?
Brandon Harvey - You’re a strong man! That was well stated. I served 12 years in the USMC. One combat tour. You’re a brother! Take good care.
WOW. What a special young woman. Not many of those around. Thank you for your service Ian.

I appreciate your video. I knew the two young men on that track. Chanowongse was my mech for about a year. I lost several very good friends during that push. Anyway, I think this video is great. Hang in there. Having an understanding woman is half the battle. I wondered how I'd be a good father too but Im killing it! No pun...BWAHAHAHAHAHA.
Semper Fi Marine! 12 years in the
Corps myself.
To Katie,You have our prayers from my family to yours, also thank for taking care of this man he deserves you and your kindness and will make it through hard times with you by his side. From the Americans that appreciate all you have done and what you have lost, Thank you.
this hits hard my dad was Army EOD and my uncle was EOD and they both have PTSD
One step at a time, one day at a time, the great thing is, you have someone to share
that step, each day. Make a conscious effort to make the most of it. Lots of Love for the both of you. Enjoy life.
Perhaps a service dog would help....blessings to you both!
watergirl881 Excellent idea
Yes!
To whoever needs to hear it:
A soldier with missing limbs, brusies, trauma, but who has a mission, is a force to be reckoned with. But a soldier without a mission is lost.
Make recovery your next mission, you deserve it 💪
8th Marines... You're video put me in tears. I know exactly what you mean. Thank you.
Stay strong brother. I hope the best for y'all. Semper Fi!
My mom married a war hero. unfortunately not the best husband. but i love my mom
He'll always be a hero to me.
It's sad for a person to go away in a wrong war, how many innocents have gone becuase of them, for "Searching chemical weapons" when they found non. It's all about money, killing innocents and spearing real heros is just sad.
She is an Angel!!!!!!
Soldiers dont go to war for the politics, they go to wat for there boys beside them.
Their*
Actually they go to war cuz that’s what theyre told/needed to do 😂
@@GLAMOURSK1LLS I want to go to war to fight alongside those who have the same mindset.
True that.
Money and brainwashing
you're a hero for putting ur life on the line for us
Dude you are a hero.
This video means so much to me. I have so many friends who suffer from P TSD from the war. It is hard to find a man who can deal with my Pts D.
I'll deal with, text me if you're still single
Best wishes Ian and Katie.
always remember brother that i will be on that field for you i will do it i will not be afriad for i will know that God is with me and you bro.
steven foss -Steve?
I would personally like to thank you for your service. I am 16 years old and to me it seems that not enough respect and graditiude is paid to our vetrans. God bless you and I hope the best for you.
All I can say is thankyou, Ian. Your sacrafices mean the world to all of us.
I need me a girl like that
You have to let it go. You can't let it eat you up to death. I know people who fought in wars and then came back to their little children and wives. This was my grandfather. Another was my cousins grandfather, both in Europe. Yes it's hard, but you have to let it go.
I know you want to try and help this man and tell him to "Let it go", although you have no idea what he went through.
A lot of my friends tell me to just let it go and move on, but it's not something you can just move on from.
george phillips
People don't get it unless they have done it. You can't just let it go! Lol
Ur a hero because u served the USA
+Ryan Belsha So what about British vets? Danish, norwegian ect ect..
+TheTabztar They are all heroes too my friend.
+Cameron Pate yeah that Was My point.
If you need help get help.
kd47730 PTSD has always been around it just had different names. Unless you have been throught it you have no idea.
an idea I do know is you cant go through life feeling sorry for yourself.
Dusty Connelly those who go to war never stop seeing it former Australian soldier and im homeless basically living in my car.
Sam Mariner thanks for serving and great job on your progress! ;D
Sam Mariner thank you for sharing. Respect
Are you still healing?
Perhaps he should have stayed home.
Such an open, honest and heartfelt story. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!
stop going to war without knowing why.
It's because the Middle East is full of fucking lunatic Islamic Extremist who terorrize the rest of the world all because we don't agree with therpir religious beliefs.
thanks for your input truthseeker
Truthseeker Its like chess ok?The soldiers are the Pawns who are controlled by the king and queen otherwise known as the Government.
There just do what there told.
Nicholas Ogden There were no terrorist from Afghanistan neither Iraq...
I don't see how killing in Afghanistan is making anyone rich, how is the government making money off this can you tell me that, a lot of money in ammunition and artillery is spend.
Jesus can do it.
Give it to Jesus.
We must never forget the hero warriors such as this young man. Semper Fi!
She is a great woman for staying with him and taking care of him!! Great Video!!
#SemperFidelis #USMC
It means ‘Always Faithful.’
Wow! Powerful & very insightful. Helps me understand vets around me a lot better.
Miss brickman. You are a saint. God bless you. And you as well Ian. Cant thank you enough for your service.
It gets better Bud; just takes a long time. Bless you Sweety for your care.
You are a hero ! You and your loved ones are in my prayers. Thank you for your loyal service 🙏.
Keep striving Ian...All combat vets know where you are... Wishing you much peace and many blessings!
What a wonderful woman. What a brave man. These are the stories we need to tell.
Welch,
I served in 3/4 as well, back in the OIF 2, 3, and 4 days.
What a wonderful women, his angel his protector, his advocate...God bless u both.
wow man,,, Got me crying bro,, dont worry i know with the way you feel about the rest of your men and your girl youll be a execellent father and your daughter will love you either way man, keep your chin up!
My man shouldn't have to live like this. He deserves a better life as in everyone suffering from war. Please for god sake be the voice to stop these wars.

Immense gratitude for the service and the courage of these men!
i cried knowing i only recieved mild ptsd but i realize my brothers get killed and torn up im here for all my family
I too am a Veteran and feel deeply for my comrade. The reason I posted the below information is because it will take individuals like us to stand up and be heard in order to address issues which impact Ian and many of our brothers and sisters in arms. The VA needs fixed, Veterans benefits restored, and much more.
