    In this video I replace the transmission belt on the machine and revisit the carb to hopefully get the surging and sputtering to stop. Thankfully I was able to do so!

      They are great engines but when they start having carb issues they can be a bear to sort out!

    That is a great free mower glad you are going to fix it for some one to have the hood is probably not cheap

    Have a LX178. Blades engage for about 30 seconds. Then do not turn or cut. New belts? Belts haven't been changed in the 15 years I've owned the mower. Small yard for last 12 years. Mower has other issues. How much to have someone change out belts...rough estimate? Thx

      Probably need belts. Same issue on a Craftsman a few years back. Someone will probably charge $150 to $200 to change them out as there are two.

      What are both of the deck belt sizes for the lx178?

    What are the two pullys in Front of the hydro for? One is for tension and the other for the Brake? I thought there is a lever for the Break on the hydro transmission itself? Maybe the pully is just for the Parkbrake? I was just wondering why the setup is so complicated designed. Wouldn‘t it be possible to just run the belt straight to the hydro? If the hydro has a lever for forward and Reverse and another lever for the brake it should work?! Thank you

      The main reason would likely be to keep tension on the belt and make it easier to change the belt by simply releasing spring tension. If you ran it straight to the hydro from the crankshaft it would be difficult to find a belt that would be tight enough after you had to slip it over the pulleys since there isn't spring tension and the belts don't stretch enough to slide it over and still be tight enough to operate correctly. It also may need to be rerouted because of the steering shaft since the hydro pulley is not directly in the middle of the transmission on this model.

      @@EllisMowersandmore that makes sense! Thank you so much for the explanation. The question might seem a little bit strange but I want to build a homemade tractor and I want to use the Hydro transmission of an lx188. That’s why I was wondering if I could do a direct belt to the transmission to keep the construction simple. I guess a tensioner pulley is easy enough to do. 1 should be enough though and I am glad I don’t need to figure out some type of clutch system ;) wich is the main reason I am going for this hydro transmission. Thanks again ;) I am happy to hear your thought on this :)

      @@vinataba22 Sounds like what you are going to do will work, if you can find a way to do a tensioner pulley setup that would be all you need to do. Best of luck on the build!

    I used to think the belts stretch, but not the case, the outside diameter stays the same, the inside diameter wears down, and the belt is not as thick as a new one.

      That part is true as well, rubber does stretch over time especially if it gets heated up.

    Next time you replace a belt, measure the outside diameter of both belts, and you will find they are exactly the same length.😎

    Have you done a video on leveling the deck

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  Рік тому

      Don't think I did but you have the two mounts in the front with what I believe is a 3/4" or 15/16" nuts to adjust, and the side and rear adjusters you'll see on the rear deck mounts and those usually are 9/16" or 5/8" nuts to adjust them. Park on level ground and make sure your tire pressures are where you want them to be. I use oil filter boxes for reference for level on both sides.

    That is a strong sounding mower just a shame that there was no hood I wonder why I see a lot of them missing the hood and what are you going to do with the lx279 if it still gives you trouble? And I almost forgot spring is almost here can't wait!

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  Рік тому +1

      I know, it was in really nice shape other than no hood. The LX279 is long gone, I just have bad memories of how long it took me to get it running right and didn't want to repeat that with this mower. Sales have already picked up around here!

      Hoods are missing due to being made of plastic. Gets brittle & breaks.
