  • In today's video, I discuss how to trouble shoot / fix a thetford recirculating toilet.
    Hello All,
Our UA-cam channel is going to document all of our family camping, family travels, family adventures, and all of the work that goes into making those happen. Right now, we are adventuring around Nashville, TN and Tennessee as a whole. We are also working on transforming our 2002 Trailmanor 3023 so we can camp more comfortably. We are all about the tiny home, van life, and Schoolie movement so we will also touch on those subjects as well.

The solution to blowing a fuse is never to put a higher amperage fuse in there. If the fuse is blowing that means too much current is being drawn. This means something is wrong. Replacing the fuse with a higher current fuse just means that you're making it more likely that something else is going to become the fuse...

Thetford has a service bulletin to increase the internal fuse size from 5A to 7.5A.

Thank you. It helped. I have a 1990 motorhome that has a similar unit and thetford has the manuals on line too.

Good instructions. Just bought a 2720 . I don’t have a problem with the toilet yet but I bet I will.

    Helpful hint,
Never increase fuse to correct any electricial problem. Their is a reason the fuse is blowing out, and their is a reason the manufacturer has it rated at a certain amps...

Its a shame that there is no help anywhere for this kind of toilet! REALLY appreciate your video...never knew there was a fuse in the toilet....I fill it with water but the needle wont move off E to charged...I will try the fuse. After that...?????

It takes a long time (couple of minutes) for the needle to start to move, especially if you're using the showerhead. Make sure you are having the patience needed to fill it. I used to think mine was broken, but then kept filling and voila, it moved.

Mine does not have a water line. I have to manually fill the head with water from the shower to get the initial water needed.

Anyone know a proper review of this toilet. I can't find a single video on this type of toilet anywhere.

I have only a month of using it. There is some obvious flaws however it was made to circumvent having a black tank

@@travelingbymap7420 cool. I just want to see more before making a purchase like this. And their site isn't very informative. Feels like your browsing a catalogue online from the 90s.

Yeah, I could find nothing online about this and had to do it from trial and error. I have owned a travel trailer and class a diesel pusher before and if I were buying a new one, I would personally go with a composting toilet rather than this model.

I have a 1971 14' shasta clone camper and it had one of these recirculating self-contained toilets. The camper only has a fresh water holding tank, no black or grey water holding tanks, and never has had them. The grey water just dumps out of the piping and no way to stop or plug it. The lack of black holding tank is why the recirculating toilet was used. It did function, but if how it was working was correctly or not I would think it didn't work right. It didn't leak, did flush, and did macerate... but instead of separating liquid from solid to "recirculate" it for flushing, it blended into a porta potty shit smoothie and then used the smoothie to try and flush like it was water.
It didn't matter what outhouse chemical deodorant was used it was like trying to wash the porta potty toilet with the contents of the toilet tank inside the porta potty and expecting it to smell better.
Needless to say using the toilet at all was forbidden. As soon as I could I ripped it out of the bathroom, plugged the hole in the floor and replaced it with a coleman flushing toilet that keeps the water separate from the sealed away deposits. 100% Worth it, it may have to have the holding tank dumped more often, but using it (unlike the shit smoothie toilet) isn't a poor life choice in a canned ham tin.
So my review is, anything is better than the self contained recirculating toilet and I would risk being attacked by wild animals in the middle of the night with my pants down before using it.... just saying.

@@rottnlove *shudder* That's what I was afraid of, and probably why I can't find any product details on it.
