  • My wife and I were camping in Idaho Falls and having a great time checking out the walking paths around the falls. Sadly we had to cut our trip short due to our Thetford Electra Magic recirculating toilet started to smell something horrible. I couldn't see any leaks but I new there had to be a leak somewhere because the smell was coming from inside the bathroom and kitchen cabinets. The toilet had some cracks in the top surface and the bowl surface was flaking off to the point that it was hard to clean. After checking for replacement parts and rebuild kits I decided on a full replacement. This video will show how I removed and replaced the toilet.

My husband always does these nasty jobs but the space is so tight, I will have to do this. He is a giant. Thanks for the video.

It's stinky but not horrible. Good luck and glad my video can help.

Man you saved me with this video! Thanks! I would have never figured out those slides that hold the bolts. It would have been 3 foot crow bar and sawzall. I can't imagine why you would go back with the recirculating toilet, but I hope it works out for you.

Loved the tailer, hated that toilet. I would have changed it if there was any way to add a black tank. Fixed it so I could sell it.

Loctite on the hold down nuts yikes the two slide adjustments that hold the toilet to the the toilet seal once you adjust that and push the slides forward that locks the nuts in place so when you have to replace the toilet seal again which is normal maintenance you can finger loosen the nuts if you locked item you're going to be chiseling them off LOL the wax ring or toilet seal was probably never replaced and that was probably the original from the new installation that's what happens when no maintenance is performed it's just like a house trailer if you don't replace the wax ring once in awhile it leaks in your floor under the toilet rots out isn't it easier to replace the wax ring or is it easier to cut the floor out and replace that good video though

Wow wow wow I've had three of these I have three of these model 80 never had a problem with any of them you have to use recirculating toilet paper and you have to use the Thetford chemical had one in a slide in truck camper had one in a boat had one in each of my motorhomes I wouldn't have any other toilet and it don't take 3 gallons to charge it it takes 5 gallons of water and chemical to charge this it's got a 10 gallon capacity never had an odor problem evidently the people that own these don't know how to service them or use them the one I have presently in my 40 ft motorhome has a hundred gallon black water tank underneath it if it would smell all you have to do is dump it into the holding tank and recharge it no problem so many bad reviews on this toilet because the owners don't know how to use them I've seen these used in boats with no holding tank and they worked good the discoloration in the bowl is when you don't mix water with the chemical it will stain the bowl as far as the broken seat top you must be eating too much I'm 200 lb never broke mine

Always used correct paper and chemicals and used it per the manual, I hated this toilet from day one. Having a holding tank to dump into would have been great. I don't understand why this one didn't have a tank.

Great info! I have one of these in a houseboat that I recently bought but someone took the valve completely out and rendered it useless. I don't know what they were thinking but the only thing I can figure out is they didn't know how a recirculating toilet worked. I can find the slide valve but the hardware to attach it to the drain is missing and I can't find replacements anywhere. The toilet looks in good shape and I would like to rebuild it. Do you know of any source for the mounting brackets and the slides? Thanks!

That's too bad you don't have those parts. I did a quick search and I couldn't locate those parts either. Good luck and I hope you don't have to buy all new.

So I don't understand why you would replace it with the exact same toilet. Do you boondock a lot and water savings is the paramount consideration?

I don't like this style toilet but changing to a different toilet with a black water tank was just way to much work and expense.

Hello! We have a 2019, 2720 Trailmanor. I have attached a couple photos of the Theatford toilet that comes with the unit. We have avoided using the toilet, opting to use the campground facilities because we're not sure if the object shown in the photo is supposed to be there.(not sure how to attached photos, please let me know how to send them) What's shown in the photo is a plastic bag with a metal bar. It would be greatly appreciated if someone knows what the plastic piece is and if it should be there.

I also wondered about that plastic bag looking thing. Both my toilets had the same thing so I took the new one apart to investigate, and yes, it is supposed to be there. I would call it a flap to assist in closing off the smell of the toilet. When new, it somewhat works like that, but that plastic in my old toilet turned stiff and actually got in the way of simply rinsing things down to the point that I, um, used a stick to push stuff past that plastic flap. Yep, very yucky stopper, not a flexible flap as intended. That was also part of why I replaced the old toilet and we also avoided using it if there was another option.

@@riderescue Thank you! Very helpful. We're most likely going to replace it.

Nicely done. Did you look into changing to a traditional rv toilet?

    • @riderescue
      @riderescue  2 роки тому

Yes I did. The underside fo the trailer is insulated and finished from the factory. I thought about hanging the tank exposed but the trailer was too low to the ground. We diced to sell the trailer and upgrade. We enjoyed this Trailmanor for many years but we like our new one more.

Good job. I have a 2012 model 2720. Looks to be the same toilet. Where did you buy your parts?

    • @riderescue

Mine is also a 2720 (2008). I purchased the toilet from eBay for just over $700.00 with shipping. I also bought the bottom valve and seals not knowing that those came with the toilet.

Why does everybody use these stupid scotch locks on wiring even the manufacturers use these the worst connector you could possibly put on I've worked on boats campers I've cut so many of these stupid things out it's unreal always a problem there Holiday Rambler was a good one for those they used them all over the place and usually when you have an electrical problem that's the problem the trailer manufacturers need some people that know how to wire things sloppiest wiring job I've ever seen some of the cheap boat manufacturers aren't much better
