Yes, had a Frigidaire last nearly 28 yrs, and a friend still has a working 1958 GE fridge... it isn't frost-free, but it has only needed service twice. Aahh, the good old days!
LG is dead to me if they don't stand behind their product. Fortunately, my refrigerator is GE.
We bought an LG and it lasted less than a year, They refused to honor the warranty. We bought a new one different brand. Never will buy any LG product ever again.
Protest in front of Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowes until they remove all LG refrigerators
just dont buy them. That way LG spends money shipping it to stores that wont sell any
@@thepotatoofheaven The best way to get them not to sell bad refrigerators is to place pressure on the retailers. Not by boycotting yourself. LG already has baked in the negative PR into the profitability estimates. These retailers have not. All you have to do is protest Lowes and Best Buy and you'll be able to make an impact. You don't even have to protest Home Depot because all you want them to do is feel the negative foot traffic and sales revenues. At that point they'd put pressure on LG to fix the product lines or they'd just fill the space with other brands. Then when Lowes stops carrying LG you protest Home Depot to place pressure on them to follow suit. At that point LG would be hurt enough to change their products or just stop selling refrigerators altogether.
I bet it’s made in China.
I have been considering protesting Lowes. Or just hanging out in the appliance dept, loudly discussing my experience when anyone looks at appliances….
@@robiny.4395 Have 2 that failed. One made in Korea the other one made in China. Just a bad design. Nothing to do with manufacturing.
i won't buy any lg products, nothing, also i can't believe kenmore wanted in on this mess ruining their name brand also
I’m an appliance tech and what I have found is government keeps pressuring appliance makers to keep making their products more efficient.
Then these manufacturers rush out these technological advanced products without thoroughly testing their long term viability without issues.
Do not buy linear cooling fridges or you may have constant problems with the compressors.
The new compressor is certainly quieter--especially when they are broken.
Ever person who has bought a LG refrigerator product should get compensation for there faulty products and the lies told to us when we purchased their junk products.
Was just looking at this story in the Bay Area. It’s a massive problem and LG has done absolutely nothing to fix the issues they know about yet refuse to resolve.
This is what happens when manufacturers prioritize Energy Star over reliability.
That fact that almost all manufacturers are now foreign and ship fridges from developing countries does not help.
On the flip side, various places abroad put a stop to these reliability and shoddy construction issues by legislating and mandating solid x year warranties from manufacturers; who then face fines for breaches - per offense.
@00x Not all fridges are made overseas. GE makes fridges in the US despite being owned by Haier.

Was going to buy an LG SMART fridge, but after watching this, I found a vintage fridge no rust that never breaks down, way better than an LG

I repair appliances and I see more LG issues that any other appliance brand. Please shop the “old school” Brands!
I work on them too, and other than fridges LG appliances aren’t as bad as people think
I'm going threw the same thing right now! Bad compressor after 8 months n also almost burnt my house down!!
I, like many of you, have had issues with my LG fridge. It just stopped working after 4 years; it seems to have lasted longer than many others. Fortunately, my wife registered the product with LG so they had proof of when we purchased it. We found a local repair company, and after much back and forth, they were able to replace the linear compressor under warranty. We did have to produce a copy of the receipt, and remembered we bought it at Home Depot. They did actually send us an invoice before the warranty work was approved, and the repair cost was about $1,000 more than we paid for the refrigerator. I bought some digital thermometers that display temperature history; after the repair, the freezer temperature will fluctuate from 18 degrees to -11, and the fridge goes from 42 degrees to 22 degrees.
The only saving grace has been our old GE fridge we bought 30 years ago for $199. It has never failed, and never been repaired.
You should join in on the lawsuit they currently have going on. It's a website to submit your info .

I am very upset to hear this. My LG refrigerator failed after 11 months and I was lucky that it was under warranty. LG was here about 6 times troubleshooting. My whole house has LG appliances and televisions. I hope they get with the program.

Purchased LG fridge in 2012 (with 3yr warranty). 2-months out of warranty, the 'defrost sensor' failed, therefore causing the fridge & freezer to ICE up SOLID.
LG would not come to the party, and local New Zealand appliance maintainers expensive, i opted to fix-myself and purchased the 'sensor' from Australia (took 2-months to arrive), and fixed myself.
Same thing as above happened with LG Plasma Television (Power fault), LG not interested. Had to trash the TV, because the part (along with installation), cost more than the TV was worth.
Will never purchase LG again. LG Rubbish, Junk.
We bought 2 back-to-back 3000 something $, and neither one of them lasted 2 years 3 years at the most.
Lucky Goldstar has never been a quality brand. Their success is down to a huge marketing budget.
Off gridders have it easier; we just use either YETI coolers or build underground root cellars

We bought LG the fridge looked great we had a funeral for that fridge between the 5th and 6 year had a repair guy tell us of there problems need to get in on 🎉the suit 😢
Do not buy LG, we had a horrible experience with them on brand new 2800 dollar fridge that were the compressor went out after a year and a half of ownership, repair bill out of our pocket was a thousand dollars, absolutely will not buy LG again period, it's purely junk with horrible customer service, never again 😮😮😮
I just found out about this because our LG fridge died at about two years old. That seriously sucks because I still out there.

Linear compressor suck might as well flush your money down the toilet I bought from JCPenney They claim they don't deal with the warranty anymore because they don't deal with appliances what a joke linear compressor doesn't work doesn't matter how pretty it is or what features it has
We bought an LG Refrigerator from Lowe's, it is only about a year old. Still working for now, but we don't know how long it will continue working based on this report. How would we know if our refrigerator has this defective compressor. Is it on some LG Models, or is it on every LG Refrigerator after 2018?
Which model is the fridge?
If your serial number starts with 8 it was built in 2018 which is when they started having major failures with these compressors.

Our 4.75 year old LG had nearly 20 service call visits (9 in its first 4 months). New compress August 2023. It's failed.
Mine just died a few days ago. LG tells me the compressor is still warrantied, but I can’t find anyone in my area to do the work. LG sent me a few names- which are either not in business or don’t work on LGs. Told me find my own repair person and they can authorize the person to get the compressor. I called over a dozen appliance repair centers in my area. None will work on LGs. I had a couple companies put right in their phone greeting- we don’t work on LG refrigerators. So I am stuck with an expensive paper weight. Of all the appliances to die- refrigerators have to be one of the most inconvenient and expensive. Not just repairs or replacement. But jeopardizing expensive food any time you put it into one of these ticking time bombs.

There's a problem in this country. People keep paying the high prices and items keep going higher and higher. Items breakdown and people keep buying them. It's not the epitome of insanity.It's the epitome of stupid.
I’ve only had ours 6 months, it would cycle on and off and it shouldn’t. Our freezer would go up in temp 20 degrees!
My LG fridge, built in 2018 and with this compressor, also has a different issue. Mine randomly dispenses water when the ice machine calls for water. Replaced the inlet valve at 2.5 yrs, and less than 2yrs later it started again. LG said replace the main board - didn't work. Now the compressor went out. Pi$$ed.
I wish I had knows then what I know now. I recently purchased an LG 1 week after receiving it the thing started making noise, they sent 4 repair persons out. Finally the last guy said it's the compressor he did some tweaking and said it's fixed. The following day NOISE. So I asked for a new unit. They are refusing to change it, so I am expected to just live with this noise. I want to take them to court for my money back. it's defective and i don't want it! but they are refusing !
We can be added to the faulty list, as well. Bought the LG French Door model in May of 2023. It's March of 2024 and it is not repairable (per the servicer). Now LG wants to send the technicians back out here to tear it apart and "try something different." Nothing but a run around from LG. Nothing but failed promises, inaccurate information, and poor communication from LG.
The technology is not the issue. The real issue: refrigeration systems assembly requires clean-room standards. LG doesn’t adhere to those standards. This from the service tech who literally replaced the entire refrigeration system in our LG reefer. Couple years later - so far, so good. I keep thermometers in each compartment and drawer to verify vs. the set temperatures.
That is why you do not buy kitchen appliances from a company that specializes in making electronics. I have been saying this for years and nobody listens. Samsung and LG are the worst for washer dryers and fridges. Whirlpool all the way or Frigidaire if you are on a budget. We have a whirlpool washer and dryer set that is from 2015 and still have it. Never had any issues with it. everything in my house is whirlpool except for my hot water heater, which is from company that specializes in water heaters (RHEEM).
How is it people only think its just Friges? TV's, Stoves, Washing machines, Driers, A/C's. These are common failing items because they build them to fail, repairs are justa bandaid and they are looking/buying time to pass warranty and then get you to buy another failing unit. Simple models will last a lot longer than these smart over rated and over priced units.
We have a 1 year old LG. The ice maker doesn't work or the water dispenser. We just bought the house and the POS came with it. I'm having it removed and buying another brand.
Wow, you would think a brand woould fix the problem, this will make LG really suffer far more than just fixing the compressors. I cant understand some companies.
We have the kenmore Elite, bought it for $2500. Repair man fixed this 6 months ago only for it to go out again. Just wondering how to add my name to the lawsuit?

Remember when your uncle would advise you to never buy an American-made car that was manufactured on a Monday or Friday?

A knowledgeable technician can figure this problem out.
And a knowledgeable technician configure a workaround by using a properly sized old-school piston type compressor in place of LG’s compressor .
A little simple, soft copper, bending piping skills .

This is what happens when we don’t have real skilled tradesmen that went to trade school that started in sixth grade and we’re mentored and went through apprenticeship program .

I bought it one year ago and started making noise.
They also need to look into the hisense fridges . Dont last at all then you cant find out the problem. The techs just starts guessing the issues and then youre paying for service and parts you dont need.
I have one of these expensive junkers in my house. I haven't had the problem yet but it makes horrible noises. Stay away from this junk.
Add my name to the lawsuit. Just paid $590 in labor to replace a compressor on a 4 year old LG.

An appliance repair guy told me to “never buy an appliance from an electronics company” LG and Samsung make good TV’s and horrible refrigerators. Stick with Frigidaire, Whirlpool, KitchenAid or Maytag.
The only good company is GE. Whirlpool corp uses these compressors too on some models and they’re not all that great.
Go with GE. While they are owned by Haier (a chinese company), they are still superior in quality. Whirlpool is another good one....their KitchenAid line is top notch and Whirlpool and GE both stand behind their products
Yikes… kitchenaid and whirlpool fridges use these faulty compressors on some models too.
