To hear Moa and Momoko play a bigger vocal role, check out "Moabanger" and "Momobanger." They are versions of their hit "Headbangerrr!" but with Moa and Momo each taking the lead vocals for the last half of the song. They were performances done for each of their birthdays. You'll also get to hear more of Momoko's ability to scream/growl in the Momobanger version. In the Moabanger version, Moa doesn't growl, but she does unleash a pretty awesome metal scream!

Great reaction.🤘Su-metal is lead vocalist, she does the bulk of the vocals (always live and she always sounds better than in the studio recordings), Moametal and Momometal do their share, but (apart from certain songs) they will be doing backing vocals and harmonies and sometimes (depends on the concert and how hard they're dancing) it may be track, it may be live. They may not be doing all the singing, but make no mistake - their role is absolutely crucial for what sets BABYMETAL apart and makes them special. The treadmill thing is entirely unsubstantiated. It came from a youtube comment where somebody said about another singer who did that and then people got confused and thought they meant Su did it too. I think the closest she has come to saying anything like that is that she moves and does the choreo for the songs in the studio so she can get her breathing right for the live shows. This is the only song with any Kabuki Theatre in it - the most Japanese style of song other than 'Metali' is 'Megitsune' which also has a shamisen or possibly another traditional Japanese instrument in the intro and incorporates the melody of a very well known Japanese folk song (Sakura Sakura) within the song. The official video is a really good one, that is from 2013 - so 10 years on the live at PIA Arena 2023 is a great live performance you can use afterwards.

The audience did sit down or get loa at every venue in the world, because no one can resist following our Queen's direction. 😄 (Then they jump up from crouching posture like spring ejectors after Momometals growl.) The repetitive わっしょい "Wasshoi" is a call or yell used in Japanese festival to stoke people's exhilaration and especially to encourage the power of guys who are carrying a heavy Mikoshi (神輿) on their shoulders that is a kind of a float in Western style festivals. Momometal's extravagant elocution and moves in Kabuki style gives an amazing accent in the exciting repetitiveness. 😍

What is special, to me at least, about the official music video for Megitsune is that there are a couple elements that you won't hear or see (at least not anymore) when they perform it live. With that said, the girls do something fun that many people may not be aware of when they perform it live.... at one point in the middle of the performance when they are all looking at each other as the music builds up, Moa will always do something cute or funny to try to make Su laugh. The third girl is called MOA. She is not leading "Kabuki" but "Hengao". Fans can see MOA's hengao during many Megitsune live performances when the lead singer covers her face with a fox mask. Next up I hope you'll check out one of their legendary performances. Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonosphere 2014 would be a great place to start. It was their international breakout moment and they were all still teenagers at the time. Road of Resistance live in Japan 2015 is another mind blowing classic. Live versions of Headbanger are always amazing. As a vocalist you'd also enjoy the piano version of Monochrome the did on The First Take.
_Wasshoi!_ 🦊🤘🏮 I'm so late for this and there's already a lot of comments so I won't bother with so much details about this but like I said before you won't have blocked with official live versions and MV of songs from latest album and after, that's why you got the live at NEX_FEST 2023 which is pretty safe but live versions such this one at Summer Sonic Festival are risky, is not a bad choice but you'll get troubles (and probably a strike) when you don't need to do that. The Reactor Resource is a great help for early era live versions mainly and you can use watermarked logo whenever you need it, don't worry about us, we already know all those clips, just remember you can find in the description where to get the clean to enjoy in your own time. The girls help with the harmonics but this was the first song with MomoMetal as the new official member and it was the perfect moment to let her shine with her own skills, MoaMetal got her own spotlight in many live performance solos and songs along with YuiMetal when performing Black Babymetal songs, as a dúo or subgroup, as well SuMetal got her own solo songs. Eventually you'll get there don't worry, also it's absolutely correct to call them cute because that's the translation of kawaii, and remember the genre they created is called "kawaii metal", it doesn't matter if they got 20+ now.😉 I don't know so much about Kabuki performances and suggestions but if you want another song with Japanese style and sound like in this one then you definitely need to check it out Megitsune official MV, that it'll be the perfect choice to go back and see what the girls were doing since they were teenagers and it also fits with the thumbnail you're using here when YuiMetal was part of the group.😅 Hope you can recover from your coughing soon and keep enjoying BM songs with all your might. Yeah, the threadmill story is not based on any public information available. I think it probably started when people for whom their first language isn't the same and for example tried to communicate in written English on a message board or youtube comment. For example 1 tried to write: "she most be singing while on a treadmill as a training" and wrote in broken English and others picked it up and it spread.
Su-Metal is the lead singer thus she sings the most. The other two, Moametal and Momometal are dancers 1st before backing vocalist. Thus, it's harder to see them "shine" with the singing because they always shining with the dancing. In term of singing, they mostly do chants vocal part and harmonies to Su-Metal. Though there are some songs where they have some lines. This is a little more specific in their history but, the two dancers have more vocal parts in their older songs with the original trio (2010 - 2017). One of the dancer, Yuimetal, left the group in late 2018 due to an undisclosed health issue. After that, Babymetal continued as a duo which lessens the backing vocal parts a bit. They would perform with a rotating cast of backup dancers, filling the 3rd spot in choreography. One of the backup dancers was Momo. After 5 years, in 2023, Babymetal finally decided to add Momometal as a new 3rd member. Thus far, they've only released 3 songs as the new trio. 2 of them are a collaboration song. So, I'm pretty sure we will get more of them singing in the future. It is a good idea to react to music video 1st then live shows. But Babymetal don't have much music videos, especially in recent years. And since you said you want to go backwards, eventually you will have a sudden jump back to their early days. Which I'm pretty sure gonna surprise you. So, if you going backwards, the next Music Video that's just Babymetal, I think should be: Babymetal - "BxMxC" (Pronounced B.M.C) (This is during the duo era so there's only two of them in the video) Then there's a live performance of the song from the "Legend MM" concert that they just released. I'm sure others will likely mention, if you want the other girls, it's a bit trickier. Their roles are more for audience interaction, choreo and back up vocals (role is "scream & dance" - scream more like chant I think), but they can all sing well. It is especially hard nowadays since the most recent album really focused on Su's singing. Moa has many more performances as she has been around since the beginning (particularly performing "Black Babymetal" songs with Yui back in the day). You can also find a couple of her solo singing from the 2021 Budokan performances of Onedari Daisakusen and GJ!. She also has a special performance of Headbanger! for her 20th Birthday celebration. She also performed a solo cover of Morning Musume's Love Machine back in 2013 (Legend 1999 concert). Momo is brand new, only officially a member as of April 2023 so she hasn't had much time to shine. Although, she did perform a special Headbanger for her (late) 20th birthday celebration ("Momobanger") as well as a performance of Meta Taro where she adds her growls. Though before checking out the special versions of headbanger, it may be best to check out the original, most fans recommend the performance at "The Legend 1997 Apocalypse" - it was actually a concert in 2013 celebrating Su-Metal's 16th birthday (1997 was her birth-year). As far as Kabuki style, there isn't really one that comes to mind. One that has a Shamisen sound is Megitsune (I think), but the sound is very different. You will find as you go along that there generally aren't too many Babymetal songs that sound the same.
I must say, this is a particularly cool performance of the song. Moa and Momoko are primarily leading the audience through the chanting parts, so they are getting a little drowned out by the crowd. Personally, I think the treadmill story is just a myth. Never heard anything official that supports it.
Megitsune has shamisen (or koto, always confused). And this song (Megitsune) is a would say Babymetal's creed (don't forget to check lyrics, official video has no subtitles). Usually I would always recommend check live, but official video is immensely good. Plus they are 15/13 there, so I would recommend check official video first (from their official channel) and then one of the lives.
Yes you DID get to hear Momometal scream. She's the only one that can scream. If you want to hear more, then I'd recommend watching Momobanger. Before you do that though, it's recommended to watch Headbanger. If you so choose to check out Headbanger, then you have a few different choices available to you. You can watch a more current version of it with Momo in the group, or you can go way back to Headbanger Live Legend 1997 (the year refers to Su-Metal's birthday, not the year of the concert. The concert was done a day after her birthday so they presented it as a celebration to Su). The other special thing about this rendition of Headbanger is it has all 3 of the ORIGINAL members of Babymetal (Momometal is a new member as Yuimetal left the band due to health reasons, so if you take a look at this older version you get to meet Yuimetal. She's also considered the better dancer between her and Moa. Moa always brought the smiles and the love whereas Yui brought the cuteness and the chubby baby cheeks lol. A lot of people have a hard time telling the two apart, so if you ever watch an older Babymetal song, Yui has the baby cheeks, Moa has the dimples. The dancers always have pigtails, and Su always has a ponytail. If you ever see any dancer with neither pigtails, nor ponytail, but buns where there WOULD be pigtails then that is what is called an avenger. Pretty much a fill-in as they were put in place after Yui left and Babymetal discovered that things just didn't mesh as well with just the two of them. If you choose to watch a later version of headbanger, then you can watch one of the newer versions which has Momo in it. That being said, you stated you wanted to hear the other two sing more. Headbanger is a good opportunity for that as Momobanger will have Momo take over the singing about half way through the song, and you can also react to Moabanger, which will have Moa take over about half way through the song. This song has been used as a birthday celebration song where the girls take turns singing it when they hit certain age milestones. In your last video you ALSO were wondering if Su lip-sync'd and I told you there was ONE song where she does and she doesn't really hide it. It is ALSO a headbanger rendition. But its Headbanger Ave Maria. This is a REALLY cool version to watch as well. It REALLY showcases how good the ladies are at dancing.
Thanks for another enjoyable reaction. You also heard a bit of a scream from Momometal in the Ratatata performance. It is kind of hard to notice and separate it out out with everything going on in that video, but I've seen some reactors separate out the tracks and analyze them and the song has a lot of mixing between here and Kevin from EC. So, not all of the screams were coming from Electric Callboy there.
THe growl wasn't live, as the Kabuki part wasn't For this song, it was the first time she did harsh vocals, so she probably isn't confident enough to do it live, or she can't consistently pull it off, who knows.

Using a Live version of something you already have heard, is a good choice, since you can get an impression on how "different" it is, and how true to the original material they are. BabyMetal is a band that is worth watching live. They are never off key, and never misses a high or low not, Never run out of breath, holding the notes when they are needed, and the crowd control, and crowd interaction shows you that they are singing, and the few parts they use bacjup tracks, (like the intermstion talking) they use the opportunity to interact, and don't hide it. Momometal is showing her fang, and she is the one during the "interesting choreography". Momo has proved that she has earned her place in the group.

What are you interested in? Besides Babymetal and Electric Callboy. They have enough videos to react to for the next three months... If Babymetal, I would recommend "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" Live at Sonisphere 2014". It was one of BM's first european concerts. A metal festival, where the audience is - let's say, not very kind, if they don't like your music (they throw bottles filled with pee)! 😅 Not enough pressure already, BM had to move from a smaller stage to the main stage, right before their show, cause another act wasn't able to perform. So these 15 and 16 year old girls had to go on stage and had to perform in front of a crowd of british metalheads, who mostly haven't heard of BM before. The song is the last one of their set... and the outcome, you have to see for yourself. These girls are badass! And their band is absolutely awesome. Really great musicians. I'm a big fan of psychology and work in our health care system, dealing mostly with people who have mental problems. He nailed it in his song, but he forgot to mention one thing. I think he hasn't reached the point yet, but from my experience I can say, it does not have to be an up and down forever. You can get to the point, when days are only good. Nowadays I don't watch him anymore. Youtiube is my only source of media, so at the time the song came out, it was everywhere and got too much real quick. He has some other great songs and he worked his ass off, to get to this point. I have respect for his work.

Leave it all Behind is a great collab and features some harmonisation with Momo and Moa. Typically they provide some back up vocals and are more focused on choreo but there are some songs that Moa has performed by herself. Which no doubt you'll discover down the line. About hearing the other girls' voices. Su is the main vocalist. The other band members are designated as “scream and dance”. So they do backing vocals and dance, and with Momo-Metal joining the band the Scream part has become very real 🙂. In addition there are a few songs that were performed by Yui and Moa as a duo called BlackBabyMetal. Since Yui left, Moa has performed a few of these alone, but it has been a few years I believe. With the band again having three members, there is speculation on the return of BlackBabyMetal. Some of Yui’s fans (Yes, Japanese Idols do have personal fans that follow them, not the band.) considers even the suggestion of this to be sacrilege. As to vocal ability, all the members were Idols (think child stars, but so much more) and members of the school themed Idol band Sakura Gakuin (not a real school). You will find SG further down the Fox Hole. So, they all can sing, not only well, but very well. It is just that Susuka is a world class mezzo soprano (not my words, I have no idea how to judge that), so it is a bit like being a star next to the sun. Anytime Moa/Yui/Momo is referred to as backup dancers or backup vocals i think they are missing out on half the performance and the importance of the scream and dance positions to what BabyMetal is.

But also producer Kobametal, he did not have much experience in the idol culture, but he knows about band culture for a long long time and his main hobby is: watching audiences and audience interaction. Kind of like some people like people watching. He traveled to festivals around the world to see certain bands perform and watch audiences react to it.
The "running on a treadmill" is a complete myth. Babymetal have never said how they prepare for a very physical show. Taylor Swift runs on a treadmill, but Su has never talked about it. Momometal had her birthday show “Legend MM” in Mar 2024 for her 21st. Momo and Moa both sings backing vocals to varying degrees depending on the song and would also harmonize with Su. I'm late with my comment here, sorry for that, but let me just clear up some of the fog around what you called 'kabuki style', which you asked for more of. So, first let me say that 'Metali' is the most Japanese style song Babymetal has ever done, and the only other song that uses Japanese instrumentation (mostly Shamisen, you got that right, which actually sounds more like a banjo than an Indian Sitar, but I agree that both instruments give that oriental vibe) would be the highly requested 'MEGITSUNE' ('Vixen') from their debut album. Please react to the official music video of that song first, you will understand why later. ;-) Anyway, Megitsune is a completely different beast of a song, but neither it nor Metali have much in common with actual kabuki music apart from those instruments. I don't want to spoil too much about the former, as you haven't reacted to it, yet, but it has a clear metalcore / pop hybrid structure and features a traditional Japanese folk melody at some point ('Sakura, Sakura', one of the most famous Japanese traditionals), whereas Metali is essentially a metalized MINYO song, so the whole song structure is minyo. Minyo are folk songs that are usually chanted at traditional festivals, like Obon matsuri, and the WASHOI! and SOHRE! chants are basically what shrine bearers and so on are yelling during their parades, so you could translate them as HEAVE-HO, or similar. So, Metali being essentially a modernized folk song is what makes the singing style so different from any other Babymetal song. The one part that actually IS kabuki here is the 'grandma' recital and and the poses Momometal strikes during that (the one at the end with her head bobbing is called a 'Mie Pose', often used in kabuki for dramatic effect, you can search for examples on UA-cam). A propos grandma: it is highly likely that it is actually Momo doing the recital on the studio version. Live, they probably use a track.

She does this with every performance of Metali!, I already experienced it last year at a concert of them😄 You heard Momometal growling, after doing the Kabuki-style ("Grandma" 🤣) part. The ladies confirmed, that she did this part herself, too! I don´t know if she did the growling live at the Summer Sonic Festival, on their world tour in 2023 it was most likely backtrack. That´s not a bad thing at all, she has to take care of her voice, therefore should train the growl before doing it 100% live. That´s the thing I mentioned in my comment to the Metali! MV: she (Momometal) did some surprising stuff with this. The speaking part, growling... she surprised us. At the Summer Sonic it wasn´t a surprise anymore, though, did you hear the crowd roar as they anticipated Momometal´s growl? 😄
Metali was the first new Babymetal song released after Momometal officially joined the group, so it features her pretty heavily since they obviously wanted to showcase what she was going to bring to the group. The "grandma" voice is actually Momo. That's why she does the dance part during it. And the growl at the end is Momo as well. The new element that Momo has added to Babymetal is guttural vocals. They have referred to Momo's harsh vocals as her "fangs" called it their "new weapon". The other song that features the shamisen is Megitsune. The Metali music video is kind of a callback to the original Megitsune music video from 2013. Generally, Su-metal does about 80-90% of the actual singing, with Moa and Momo mostly doing harmonies and call and response parts. A lot of the time, Moa and Momo function as cheerleaders, leading the fans in the chants and sing along parts they are supposed to do. In Japanese music culture, it's considered rude to sing along because it's disrespectful to the artist and the other audience members, so songs are written with sing along parts written into them for the audience to participate in, and so Moa and Momo's role in Babymetal is to lead the audience in their part of the songs while Su-metal does the lead vocals. The story about the treadmill is a apocryphal. I don't believe there is any actual confirmation of it; I think it's just fan speculation about how she is able to dance so intensely and yet sing perfectly as well.

Requests can certainly be overwhelming, especially with everyone having their favorite performance and song. There isn't really anything 'kabuki style', but the Japanese flare to it is probably closest to their song Megitsune. I would suggest the PIA Arena 2023 performance of it. The genre of music is kawaii metal, literally means cute metal. Kawaii is a whole culture in Japan, with a dozen subcultures in it that focuses on all things cute. This was the second time they performed Metali live, first being at a small concert shortly before this. It also comes with a Kami band intro, but was cut from this live when it was released. The Legend MM concerts are the first proshot live performance of it, but it's not currently on YT. The performance of the song has gotten better since the song's debut as well.
Yeah Momo did a growl there. Moa and Momo both do chorus BVs and crowd hype. Your cough was hardly noticeable, if you hadn't brought it up it might have been missed entirely. Great reaction. If you want a Party vibe song you might try Pa Pa Ya or BxMxC, If you want heavy metal maybe try Road of Resistance, Headbanger or Rondo of Nightmares. If you want to be wowed go for Monochrome.
Great reaction! Not sure if there are any other Kabuki -style songs, but the other song with a prominent shamisen sound (the instrument you were looking for) is Megitsune. That also happens to be my favorite song! I suggest the music video or the PIA 2023 version. P.S. If you're looking for an actual Indian-style song, try Shanti Shanti Shanti (Legend Metal Galaxy Live). There are of course tons of other great songs to hear, and there will be plenty of chances to hear Momo, Moa and Yui sing. Specifically their versions of the song Headbanger where they each take lead. All in due time ;)

One thing you'll learn is that each song is different and they do many styles of metal (and other) music. One other thing you'll learn is that Su's voice is MUCH better live, but I like the idea of watching the music video first when there is one. If I were you, I'd do "Iine", "Headbanger" or "Megitsune" next (they all have music videos). If you can't decide which, just do Megitsune (you'll see the similarity to Metali in the video, which is intentional, but the music is very different). And no, the cough was not distracting at all. 🙂
Do Megitsune next - not only has it been their anthem for more than 10 years and a great female empowerment song, it's a great way to compare them in the MV 10 years ago to a live version from the modern day (the pia arena version is probably best). Oh, plus it has a shamisen in it too.

Ok, next stop is a no brainer, since you mentioned more shamisen and... are the girls teenagers. No, not anymore. Su is 26, Moa just turned 25 and Momoko is 21. Next you might wanna checkout the Megitsune music video, where the shamisen is used and the girls were at the start of their career! Then checkout a live performance of Megitsune. I highly recommend the one posted by gans tomas. Live at legend 1997, where you'll get to see former member Yui for the first time. At this point, the band was growing so quickly, so fast and the audience was so into it, you can notice the girls, especially Moa, getting a bit overwelmed. Even more so on the next song of that performance, ijime, dame, zettai. Yet still they're absolutely nailing it!

But they don't sing often. There IS a "subsection" of Babymetal called Black Babymetal. In this subsection Su gets to take a much earned break for a few minutes and Moa and Yui take center stage. This is where you'd get to hear them sing more. There are also some songs where Su solo's and the 2 dancers get to take a much deserved rest. Just be careful because a couple of THESE songs can be very emotional. Su has a talent for being able to evoke emotions through her voice and many a male Babymetal fan have admitted to shedding tears with some of these songs lol

Since Yui left BABYMETAL in 2018 (her last performance was in 2017 😭), any performance following 2017 will not include her therefore the thumbnails shouldn't, either. 7:05 "I don't listen to this kind of music" which is why you made the mistake, no worries about it. 7:53 "is that live ?" well, I've seen a bunch of discussions for different performances as well, but I think not, 1 reason might be: she only has the unidirectional head-mounted microphone, which is less than ideal for recording any singing really. And it takes a lot of effort by a good sound engineer to have the sound from that come out clearly at a metal concert. Having vocals with low tones and instruments with low tones together in the same sound source, not great. Probably why they did this part while the instruments are quiet. I suspect Momometal isn't ready or doesn't feel ready to perform this live every singly day on a tour though.
Oh I forgot to mention, if/when you finally get around to watching the Sakura Gakuin stuff (the stuff BEFORE the girls become Babymetal, when they were still training to become JPop singers), take special care to watch Su dance when she's performing. It's SUPER adorable as she's very awkward and isn't comfortable AT ALL in her body still as she was tall and gangly. It's really cute and she sticks out SO MUCH lol You'll enjoy these moments I think as you get to see a bit of their personality outside of Babymetal. You'll see Su is a COMPLETELY different person outside of her Su-Metal persona. It's really neat to see. It's almost like she has multiple personality disorder, but in a good way lol

The growl was from Momo-the new member of the group though she's been singing with Babymetal pretty much exclusively since 2019. Momo has brought legit growls and screams to Babymetal for the first time. Momo has been such a great addition to the group. Again nice job and I wasn't bothered by the cough but I've got one myself so I may be de-sensitized.

To hear Moa and Momoko play a bigger vocal role, check out "Moabanger" and "Momobanger." They are versions of their hit "Headbangerrr!" but with Moa and Momo each taking the lead vocals for the last half of the song. They were performances done for each of their birthdays. You'll also get to hear more of Momoko's ability to scream/growl in the Momobanger version. In the Moabanger version, Moa doesn't growl, but she does unleash a pretty awesome metal scream!

Great reaction.🤘Su-metal is lead vocalist, she does the bulk of the vocals (always live and she always sounds better than in the studio recordings), Moametal and Momometal do their share, but (apart from certain songs) they will be doing backing vocals and harmonies and sometimes (depends on the concert and how hard they're dancing) it may be track, it may be live.
They may not be doing all the singing, but make no mistake - their role is absolutely crucial for what sets BABYMETAL apart and makes them special.
The treadmill thing is entirely unsubstantiated. It came from a youtube comment where somebody said about another singer who did that and then people got confused and thought they meant Su did it too. I think the closest she has come to saying anything like that is that she moves and does the choreo for the songs in the studio so she can get her breathing right for the live shows.
This is the only song with any Kabuki Theatre in it - the most Japanese style of song other than 'Metali' is 'Megitsune' which also has a shamisen or possibly another traditional Japanese instrument in the intro and incorporates the melody of a very well known Japanese folk song (Sakura Sakura) within the song.
The official video is a really good one, that is from 2013 - so 10 years on the live at PIA Arena 2023 is a great live performance you can use afterwards.

The repetitive わっしょい "Wasshoi" is a call or yell used in Japanese festival to stoke people's exhilaration and especially to encourage the power of guys who are carrying a heavy Mikoshi (神輿) on their shoulders that is a kind of a float in Western style festivals.

What is special, to me at least, about the official music video for Megitsune is that there are a couple elements that you won't hear or see (at least not anymore) when they perform it live. With that said, the girls do something fun that many people may not be aware of when they perform it live.... at one point in the middle of the performance when they are all looking at each other as the music builds up, Moa will always do something cute or funny to try to make Su laugh. Now that Momo has joined, Momo will usually copy Moa too. Megitsune is the most performed song in their catalogue and is a fan favorite.🤘🦊🤘

Next up I hope you'll check out one of their legendary performances. Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonosphere 2014 would be a great place to start. It was their international breakout moment and they were all still teenagers at the time. Road of Resistance live in Japan 2015 is another mind blowing classic. Live versions of Headbanger are always amazing. As a vocalist you'd also enjoy the piano version of Monochrome the did on The First Take.

I'm so late for this and there's already a lot of comments so I won't bother with so much details about this but like I said before you won't have blocked with official live versions and MV of songs from latest album and after, that's why you got the live at NEX_FEST 2023 which is pretty safe but live versions such this one at Summer Sonic Festival are risky, is not a bad choice but you'll get troubles (and probably a strike) when you don't need to do that.
The Reactor Resource is a great help for early era live versions mainly and you can use watermarked logo whenever you need it, don't worry about us, we already know all those clips, just remember you can find in the description where to get the clean to enjoy in your own time.
The girls help with the harmonics but this was the first song with MomoMetal as the new official member and it was the perfect moment to let her shine with her own skills, MoaMetal got her own spotlight in many live performance solos and songs along with YuiMetal when performing Black Babymetal songs, as a dúo or subgroup, as well SuMetal got her own solo songs. Eventually you'll get there don't worry, also it's absolutely correct to call them cute because that's the translation of kawaii, and remember the genre they created is called "kawaii metal", it doesn't matter if they got 20+ now.😉
I don't know so much about Kabuki performances and suggestions but if you want another song with Japanese style and sound like in this one then you definitely need to check it out Megitsune official MV, that it'll be the perfect choice to go back and see what the girls were doing since they were teenagers and it also fits with the thumbnail you're using here when YuiMetal was part of the group.😅

Yeah, the threadmill story is not based on any public information available. I think it probably started when people for whom their first language isn't the same and for example tried to communicate in written English on a message board or youtube comment. For example 1 tried to write: "she most be singing while on a treadmill as a training" and wrote in broken English and others picked it up and it spread.
Su loves too dance. Even in SG she was their most energetic performer
Su-Metal is the lead singer thus she sings the most. The other two, Moametal and Momometal are dancers 1st before backing vocalist. Thus, it's harder to see them "shine" with the singing because they always shining with the dancing. In term of singing, they mostly do chants vocal part and harmonies to Su-Metal. Though there are some songs where they have some lines.
This is a little more specific in their history but, the two dancers have more vocal parts in their older songs with the original trio (2010 - 2017). One of the dancer, Yuimetal, left the group in late 2018 due to an undisclosed health issue. After that, Babymetal continued as a duo which lessens the backing vocal parts a bit. They would perform with a rotating cast of backup dancers, filling the 3rd spot in choreography. One of the backup dancers was Momo.
After 5 years, in 2023, Babymetal finally decided to add Momometal as a new 3rd member. Thus far, they've only released 3 songs as the new trio. 2 of them are a collaboration song. So, I'm pretty sure we will get more of them singing in the future.
It is a good idea to react to music video 1st then live shows. But Babymetal don't have much music videos, especially in recent years. And since you said you want to go backwards, eventually you will have a sudden jump back to their early days. Which I'm pretty sure gonna surprise you.
So, if you going backwards, the next Music Video that's just Babymetal, I think should be:
Babymetal - "BxMxC" (Pronounced B.M.C) (This is during the duo era so there's only two of them in the video)
Then there's a live performance of the song from the "Legend MM" concert that they just released. The concert was held in March 2024 to celebrate Momometal's birthday.

I'm sure others will likely mention, if you want the other girls, it's a bit trickier. Their roles are more for audience interaction, choreo and back up vocals (role is "scream & dance" - scream more like chant I think), but they can all sing well. It is especially hard nowadays since the most recent album really focused on Su's singing.
Moa has many more performances as she has been around since the beginning (particularly performing "Black Babymetal" songs with Yui back in the day). You can also find a couple of her solo singing from the 2021 Budokan performances of Onedari Daisakusen and GJ!. She also has a special performance of Headbanger! for her 20th Birthday celebration. She also performed a solo cover of Morning Musume's Love Machine back in 2013 (Legend 1999 concert).
Momo is brand new, only officially a member as of April 2023 so she hasn't had much time to shine. Although, she did perform a special Headbanger for her (late) 20th birthday celebration ("Momobanger") as well as a performance of Meta Taro where she adds her growls.
Though before checking out the special versions of headbanger, it may be best to check out the original, most fans recommend the performance at "The Legend 1997 Apocalypse" - it was actually a concert in 2013 celebrating Su-Metal's 16th birthday (1997 was her birth-year).
As far as Kabuki style, there isn't really one that comes to mind. One that has a Shamisen sound is Megitsune (I think), but the sound is very different. You will find as you go along that there generally aren't too many Babymetal songs that sound the same.

Megitsune has shamisen (or koto, always confused). And this song (Megitsune) is a would say Babymetal's creed (don't forget to check lyrics, official video has no subtitles).

Yes you DID get to hear Momometal scream. She's the only one that can scream. If you want to hear more, then I'd recommend watching Momobanger. Before you do that though, it's recommended to watch Headbanger. If you so choose to check out Headbanger, then you have a few different choices available to you. You can watch a more current version of it with Momo in the group, or you can go way back to Headbanger Live Legend 1997 (the year refers to Su-Metal's birthday, not the year of the concert. The concert was done a day after her birthday so they presented it as a celebration to Su). The other special thing about this rendition of Headbanger is it has all 3 of the ORIGINAL members of Babymetal (Momometal is a new member as Yuimetal left the band due to health reasons, so if you take a look at this older version you get to meet Yuimetal. She's also considered the better dancer between her and Moa. Moa always brought the smiles and the love whereas Yui brought the cuteness and the chubby baby cheeks lol. A lot of people have a hard time telling the two apart, so if you ever watch an older Babymetal song, Yui has the baby cheeks, Moa has the dimples. The dancers always have pigtails, and Su always has a ponytail.
If you ever see any dancer with neither pigtails, nor ponytail, but buns where there WOULD be pigtails then that is what is called an avenger. Pretty much a fill-in as they were put in place after Yui left and Babymetal discovered that things just didn't mesh as well with just the two of them. If you choose to watch a later version of headbanger, then you can watch one of the newer versions which has Momo in it. That being said, you stated you wanted to hear the other two sing more. Headbanger is a good opportunity for that as Momobanger will have Momo take over the singing about half way through the song, and you can also react to Moabanger, which will have Moa take over about half way through the song. This song has been used as a birthday celebration song where the girls take turns singing it when they hit certain age milestones. In your last video you ALSO were wondering if Su lip-sync'd and I told you there was ONE song where she does and she doesn't really hide it. It is ALSO a headbanger rendition. But its Headbanger Ave Maria. This is a REALLY cool version to watch as well. It REALLY showcases how good the ladies are at dancing.

Thanks for another enjoyable reaction. You also heard a bit of a scream from Momometal in the Ratatata performance. It is kind of hard to notice and separate it out out with everything going on in that video, but I've seen some reactors separate out the tracks and analyze them and the song has a lot of mixing between here and Kevin from EC. So, not all of the screams were coming from Electric Callboy there.

Using a Live version of something you already have heard, is a good choice, since you can get an impression on how "different" it is, and how true to the original material they are.
BabyMetal is a band that is worth watching live. They are never off key, and never misses a high or low not, Never run out of breath, holding the notes when they are needed, and the crowd control, and crowd interaction shows you that they are singing, and the few parts they use bacjup tracks, (like the intermstion talking) they use the opportunity to interact, and don't hide it.
Momometal is showing her fang, and she is the one during the "interesting choreography". Momo has proved that she has earned her place in the group.

If Babymetal, I would recommend "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" Live at Sonisphere 2014".
It was one of BM's first european concerts. A metal festival, where the audience is - let's say, not very kind, if they don't like your music (they throw bottles filled with pee)! 😅
Not enough pressure already, BM had to move from a smaller stage to the main stage, right before their show, cause another act wasn't able to perform.
So these 15 and 16 year old girls had to go on stage and had to perform in front of a crowd of british metalheads, who mostly haven't heard of BM before.
The song is the last one of their set... and the outcome, you have to see for yourself.
These girls are badass! And their band is absolutely awesome. Really great musicians.
For EC I would recommend my fav serious song "Hate/Love" or "Arrow of love" as a fun one. Ofc the original music videos for EC.

I'm a big fan of psychology and work in our health care system, dealing mostly with people who have mental problems.
He nailed it in his song, but he forgot to mention one thing. I think he hasn't reached the point yet, but from my experience I can say, it does not have to be an up and down forever. You can get to the point, when days are only good.
Nowadays I don't watch him anymore. Youtiube is my only source of media, so at the time the song came out, it was everywhere and got too much real quick. He has some other great songs and he worked his ass off, to get to this point. I have respect for his work.

Leave it all Behind is a great collab and features some harmonisation with Momo and Moa. Typically they provide some back up vocals and are more focused on choreo but there are some songs that Moa has performed by herself. Which no doubt you'll discover down the line. About hearing the other girls' voices. Su is the main vocalist. The other band members are designated as “scream and dance”. So they do backing vocals and dance, and with Momo-Metal joining the band the Scream part has become very real 🙂. In addition there are a few songs that were performed by Yui and Moa as a duo called BlackBabyMetal. Since Yui left, Moa has performed a few of these alone, but it has been a few years I believe. With the band again having three members, there is speculation on the return of BlackBabyMetal. Some of Yui’s fans (Yes, Japanese Idols do have personal fans that follow them, not the band.) considers even the suggestion of this to be sacrilege.
As to vocal ability, all the members were Idols (think child stars, but so much more) and members of the school themed Idol band Sakura Gakuin (not a real school). You will find SG further down the Fox Hole. So, they all can sing, not only well, but very well. It is just that Susuka is a world class mezzo soprano (not my words, I have no idea how to judge that), so it is a bit like being a star next to the sun.

Anytime Moa/Yui/Momo is referred to as backup dancers or backup vocals i think they are missing out on half the performance and the importance of the scream and dance positions to what BabyMetal is.

But also producer Kobametal, he did not have much experience in the idol culture, but he knows about band culture for a long long time and his main hobby is: watching audiences and audience interaction. The "running on a treadmill" is a complete myth. Babymetal have never said how they prepare for a very physical show. Taylor Swift runs on a treadmill, but Su has never talked about it. Momometal had her birthday show “Legend MM” in Mar 2024 for her 21st.
Momo and Moa both sings backing vocals to varying degrees depending on the song and would also harmonize with Su.

I'm late with my comment here, sorry for that, but let me just clear up some of the fog around what you called 'kabuki style', which you asked for more of. So, first let me say that 'Metali' is the most Japanese style song Babymetal has ever done, and the only other song that uses Japanese instrumentation (mostly Shamisen, you got that right, which actually sounds more like a banjo than an Indian Sitar, but I agree that both instruments give that oriental vibe) would be the highly requested 'MEGITSUNE' ('Vixen') from their debut album. Please react to the official music video of that song first, you will understand why later. ;-)
Anyway, Megitsune is a completely different beast of a song, but neither it nor Metali have much in common with actual kabuki music apart from those instruments. I don't want to spoil too much about the former, as you haven't reacted to it, yet, but it has a clear metalcore / pop hybrid structure and features a traditional Japanese folk melody at some point ('Sakura, Sakura', one of the most famous Japanese traditionals), whereas Metali is essentially a metalized MINYO song, so the whole song structure is minyo. Minyo are folk songs that are usually chanted at traditional festivals, like Obon matsuri, and the WASHOI! and SOHRE! chants are basically what shrine bearers and so on are yelling during their parades, so you could translate them as HEAVE-HO, or similar. So, Metali being essentially a modernized folk song is what makes the singing style so different from any other Babymetal song. The one part that actually IS kabuki here is the 'grandma' recital and and the poses Momometal strikes during that (the one at the end with her head bobbing is called a 'Mie Pose', often used in kabuki for dramatic effect, you can search for examples on UA-cam). A propos grandma: it is highly likely that it is actually Momo doing the recital on the studio version. Live, they probably use a track.

Great reaction! Su-Metal is such a great LIVE vocalist/performer, right? 😄You could even hear that she loves to sing the song, she sings much more playful than usual. She does this with every performance of Metali!, I already experienced it last year at a concert of them😄 You heard Momometal growling, after doing the Kabuki-style ("Grandma" 🤣) part. The ladies confirmed, that she did this part herself, too!
I don´t know if she did the growling live at the Summer Sonic Festival, on their world tour in 2023 it was most likely backtrack. That´s not a bad thing at all, she has to take care of her voice, therefore should train the growl before doing it 100% live.
That´s the thing I mentioned in my comment to the Metali! MV: she (Momometal) did some surprising stuff with this. The speaking part, growling... she surprised us. At the Summer Sonic it wasn´t a surprise anymore, though, did you hear the crowd roar as they anticipated Momometal´s growl? 😄

Metali was the first new Babymetal song released after Momometal officially joined the group, so it features her pretty heavily since they obviously wanted to showcase what she was going to bring to the group.
The "grandma" voice is actually Momo. That's why she does the dance part during it. And the growl at the end is Momo as well. The new element that Momo has added to Babymetal is guttural vocals. They have referred to Momo's harsh vocals as her "fangs" called it their "new weapon".
The other song that features the shamisen is Megitsune. The Metali music video is kind of a callback to the original Megitsune music video from 2013.
Generally, Su-metal does about 80-90% of the actual singing, with Moa and Momo mostly doing harmonies and call and response parts. A lot of the time, Moa and Momo function as cheerleaders, leading the fans in the chants and sing along parts they are supposed to do. In Japanese music culture, it's considered rude to sing along because it's disrespectful to the artist and the other audience members, so songs are written with sing along parts written into them for the audience to participate in, and so Moa and Momo's role in Babymetal is to lead the audience in their part of the songs while Su-metal does the lead vocals.
The story about the treadmill is a apocryphal. I don't believe there is any actual confirmation of it; I think it's just fan speculation about how she is able to dance so intensely and yet sing perfectly as well.

Requests can certainly be overwhelming, especially with everyone having their favorite performance and song. There isn't really anything 'kabuki style', but the Japanese flare to it is probably closest to their song Megitsune. I would suggest the PIA Arena 2023 performance of it.
The genre of music is kawaii metal, literally means cute metal. Kawaii is a whole culture in Japan, with a dozen subcultures in it that focuses on all things cute.
This was the second time they performed Metali live, first being at a small concert shortly before this. It also comes with a Kami band intro, but was cut from this live when it was released. The Legend MM concerts are the first proshot live performance of it, but it's not currently on YT. The performance of the song has gotten better since the song's debut as well.

One thing you'll learn is that each song is different and they do many styles of metal (and other) music. One other thing you'll learn is that Su's voice is MUCH better live, but I like the idea of watching the music video first when there is one.
If I were you, I'd do "Iine", "Headbanger" or "Megitsune" next (they all have music videos). If you can't decide which, just do Megitsune (you'll see the similarity to Metali in the video, which is intentional, but the music is very different).

Ok, next stop is a no brainer, since you mentioned more shamisen and... are the girls teenagers. No, not anymore. Su is 26, Moa just turned 25 and Momoko is 21. Next you might wanna checkout the Megitsune music video, where the shamisen is used and the girls were at the start of their career! Then checkout a live performance of Megitsune. I highly recommend the one posted by gans tomas. Live at legend 1997, where you'll get to see former member Yui for the first time. At this point, the band was growing so quickly, so fast and the audience was so into it, you can notice the girls, especially Moa, getting a bit overwelmed. Even more so on the next song of that performance, ijime, dame, zettai. Yet still they're absolutely nailing it!

Damn, sorry, I'm listening to you talk and then you say something and I want to respond lol You mentioned Su hitting that note at the end that gave you chills. You HAVE to watch From Dusk Till Dawn Live at Budokan. You'll get to hear her hit REALLY high notes and she sounds AMAZING. You'll also get to hear Moa sing in that one a bit too. Momo doesn't sing in that one as she is still what I was referring to as an avenger. The avengers don't sing, they just help with the choreo and with crowd control.
I gotta remember that, I'm used to hearing all girls in a girl band sing at least harmonies and such! 🤟🦊🤘
@@Abigirl_Reacts yea. Well, like I said, if their hair is in pigtails, then the girls have a mic (face mic) and DO sing sometimes. Often as a call and response type of thing. But they don't sing often. There IS a "subsection" of Babymetal called Black Babymetal. In this subsection Su gets to take a much earned break for a few minutes and Moa and Yui take center stage. This is where you'd get to hear them sing more. There are also some songs where Su solo's and the 2 dancers get to take a much deserved rest. Just be careful because a couple of THESE songs can be very emotional. Su has a talent for being able to evoke emotions through her voice and many a male Babymetal fan have admitted to shedding tears with some of these songs lol
it *is* Momo but it's tracked. a lot of Moa/Momo/Yui's stuff (not all) is tracked due to the demands of dancing, and for this I don't know if Momo isn't confident enough to do it live yet or if it's a decision above their heads, but yeah, it's tracked.

@@Abigirl_Reacts In this case (and the other), yes. My point (and I suppose it's splitting hairs) is that your thumbnails should reflect who's doing the performance. Since Yui left BABYMETAL in 2018 (her last performance was in 2017 😭), any performance following 2017 will not include her therefore the thumbnails shouldn't, either.

7:53 "is that live ?" well, I've seen a bunch of discussions for different performances as well, but I think not, 1 reason might be: she only has the unidirectional head-mounted microphone, which is less than ideal for recording any singing really. And it takes a lot of effort by a good sound engineer to have the sound from that come out clearly at a metal concert. Having vocals with low tones and instruments with low tones together in the same sound source, not great. Probably why they did this part while the instruments are quiet. I suspect Momometal isn't ready or doesn't feel ready to perform this live every singly day on a tour though.

Oh I forgot to mention, if/when you finally get around to watching the Sakura Gakuin stuff (the stuff BEFORE the girls become Babymetal, when they were still training to become JPop singers), take special care to watch Su dance when she's performing. It's SUPER adorable as she's very awkward and isn't comfortable AT ALL in her body still as she was tall and gangly. It's really cute and she sticks out SO MUCH lol You'll enjoy these moments I think as you get to see a bit of their personality outside of Babymetal. You'll see Su is a COMPLETELY different person outside of her Su-Metal persona. It's really neat to see. It's almost like she has multiple personality disorder, but in a good way lol
