After visiting over 46 countries around the world, including 44 States in the USA, 4 Provinces in Canada, and being in Rio like 10 times, I do not find RIO to be any worse than most countries I have been to. However I came to the realization that both Europeans and Anglo Americans, were very keen on trashing Brazil, especially the French, the English and the USA. I was assaulted in Frankfurt at gun point by TWO EUROPEANS, after arriving from INDIA, where nobody threatened me at all, acosted in San Francisco TWICE, and New York as well. NOT ONCE IN RIO. Traveled to over 20 States in Brazil and no problems anywhere, at all. All of this for over 5 decades.

Where do u stay in Rio? Im traveling first time with my friend im from arizona. I want to know that i’ll be safe. Can you lmk safe hotels/areas in rio that u stayed.
As a Brazilian myself I can guarantee that you are safe, in the SOUTH ZONE. But the thing is, everything is in the South Zone. The Christ, the Sugar Loaf, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Maracanã, you name it. The tourist area is a single massive oasis of peace and beauty, even with the favelas on top of it. These favelas, merged into rich areas, are "gourmet" if you will. You can go up there and enjoy the view, they have music, they have sport, leisure, they have a huge community spirit. And while you will indeed find people struggling, they are the workers that maintain the prosperous areas lit, so they have a better condition anyway. Now, outside of the South Zone, then you have War Zone. Literally. Some places are not controlled by the state, there are paramilitary groups, dirty cops and drug lords fighting to death. This will be true for the big cities in Brazil: safe heaven large clusters of prosperity, with poverty in the center (less) and misery in the periphery (a lot). The countryside however is gigantic and calmer. You can do all the nature trips you want and your worst problem will be probably a wild animal or the damn mosquitoes.

Myself and my partner are going on Paddy's Day, I'm Irish, she's Brazillian and this video really put our minds at ease, how do you navigate the language barrier or are you both fluent in Portuguese?
Hi! That’s great to hear 😊 We don’t speak a word of Portuguese. You can download the Portuguese language on Google Translate and use it offline if you are stuck. But, to be honest, we never really find language as a barrier anywhere we go so I wouldn’t worry much about it 😅 Hope you have an amazing time! 🇧🇷💛
Hey! Awesome video! Thanks for the nice words about the city! Rio is the second biggest city in Brazil and the rates include all other areas the tourists don't get near when staying in the south zone (Copacabana, Ipanema). So, you are right in saying that it's not as bad as people make it, but it's because you get only a glimpse of the city.
I agree with you guys. I was so pleasantly surprised how normal and safe it is there. Just don’t be flashy with your Cartier on the beaches lol. But I disagree about the Christ Corcovado, the train ride up is one of the most beautiful experiences in my life. Just make sure it’s a clear day, so you can have the best view from up there.
Crime rate here is NOT as far as Chicago, Paris or L.A. ... But there's an international net amplifying bad news about Rio in past 30 years... ( By the way São Paulo crime rate is waaay worst than Rio nowadays) . Rio is wonderfull and Its people also ! 😉😉👍👍
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I'm 'carioca', I love my city! I had already been in NYC, Paris, London, Buenos Aires, Montevideo... And I don't change it for any other citiy in the world. One more time, I say THANK YOU for this video. ❤
If you've been to all thos cities you saw how much safer vthey are in comparison to Rio! Even here in Brazil São Paulo and the whole South are much safer than Rio! Much safer indded than dangerous and violent Rio!
I’m looking at going mid April in 2025. I’m glad I came across this video because all I’ve ever heard is horror stories/scaremongering. Thank you for the advice on this video it’s been invaluable.
When I was in Rio as a young man in 77, I walked from Botafogo all the way up to the Christ Statue, I walked the last bit because the funicular railway was broken down at the time and I chose not to take a taxi. Even then the city was not particularly safe, but personally I had no troubles.
Amazing footage. Some channels don't use good cameras while in Brazil (due to safety reasons) and the videos here gets kinda low quality. But yours is really good
For anyone considering going to Christ the Redeemer, I found the Cog Train up/down pretty easy. Great views!Make sure you sit on the right side going up, and the left side going down
I traveled to Rio many times as a woman by myself even, and my safety was never ever compromised, I would even stay out to early mornings on the beach and nothing bad ever happened in fact people where Extremely friendly and warm and helpful
I visited Rio about a month ago and spent five days there. I also spent time in San Pedro Atacama (Chile), Salar de Uyuni and La Paz (Bolivia). I am American and was greeted and met some of the nicest people ever, it was tons of fun. People there were super helpful and friendly, and I felt safer in Rio than in my hometown NY. There was also lots of security and police in measure so I didn't feel an ounce of danger during my Brazilian visit. Sometimes I was extra careful because many people told me horror stories. But then again, I walked by myself at night and never had any problems. The only difficulty I encountered was after the Carnival, asking for directions to return to my hostel, almost no one, besides tourists of course, but practically none of the locals speak any English. Google translate and interacting with tourists helped me a lot. Also, there are many beautiful areas worth exploring in Brazil besides Rio. I hope to visit Brazil again, I've heard that Bahia, the Amazonicas, Pantanal, Florianopolis are gorgeous. Maybe I will learn some Portuguese before making another trip to Brazil 😊. I've heard that Peru is also very beautiful, but I haven't been to Peru yet.
Absolutely loved the fact that you decided not to show the everyday struggle of the not so well do. I hate vloggers who decide to do that in my own country India. ❤
Next time, try going to the Lakes Region. Bye!!
What was your experience of walking the streets after sunset? And did you get to Lapa or Leblon? I'm heading to Rio in April and your insights were great. thanks.
Thanks a lot! Around touristy areas (Copacabana/Ipanema) even after the sunset there is nothing to worry about, but we would recommend to be cautious about your belongings, especially if you will go partying in crowded places. Leblon is the safest place, but your accommodation there and at Ipanema will be more pricy. Lapa is a bit more dodgy to be honest and we haven’t been there at night, but we’ve meet some people who stayed there and they said it was alright, but they were walking with company, so we wouldn’t really recommend walking there on your own after the sunset… but we might be wrong! Enjoy your trip😍
I would be very careful in Lapa if you go at all. I went with a local girl, but otherwise I wouldn't have gone at all. Many foreigners (particularly white men I believe) have been drugged and then robbed after going there. Just watch Swedish Gringo's video on Lapa if you want the real story.
Actually there's another hike at the sugar loaf mountain that's one of the esiest in Rio, where you don't need any gear and no tourist guide. The hike is basically steps and it's the free way to get to the top and the option I always choose as a local
That would be the trail to Morro da Urca from the Pista Claudio Coutinho at the northern end of Praia Vermelha. Very rewarding way to get to the mountain.
I think she's Brazilian... hahah Great job guys ! You guys really shows what Brazil has to offer and as Brazilian I am I can assure Rio can be just as dangerous as Paris, New York or many others main number 1 cities around the world.
I went to Rio de Janeiro at the beginning of last year. Everything was very good, I didn't see anything happening, I enjoyed the beaches, I hiked the Morro da Urca trail, among many other things. I HIGHLY recommend the trip, but you need to be aware that you are not at your home. You must be very careful with your belongings and watch where you go, just like any other place in the world that I've been.
Every city has its good and bad ..I live in Miami ... there are a lot of sketchy areas that I would never put my foot into ... nevertheless it's a beautiful city ...just need to avoid the sketchy places but if someone snatches your phone or camera that is a bit scary though
I’ve been traveling a lot and visited many countries, I just came back from Rio and found it very safe, clean and wonderful. They talk bad about Rio cause they’re envious. I was robbed in Dublin, I was in the middle of a gun shot in New Orleans and I felt very unsafe in Canada with a lot of drugged people and homeless bothering you in the streets. I love Rio ❤
Brazil/Rio are well known by Christ the Redeemer. But Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar) is a much more interesting and enjoyable visit. Less crowded, more space and stunning views. Especially during sunset. The transition from a sunny city to a lit city at night, with the city lights gradually turning on, with the sunset in the background, is unreal.
Great video. Thank you! I know you talked about using your phone. I'm assuming you also used an actual camera. I'm headed to RIO in about a month and was wondering about using a Sony camera. Any recommendations?
Hi Dave! We were apprehensive about whipping out our Canon camera at first, but after a couple of days we realized that as long as you are vigilant in busy public areas then you are just fine. A good tip is to use a neck-strap and keep it around your neck - that way it’s easily accessible for you and also makes it hard for anyone to swipe it! Enjoy your time in Rio - we loved it! 😊
Hi guys, thanks for the cool video. Since you have a lot of drone footage in the video I have to ask: any recommendations on where to launch and where not to launch?
If you're coming to Rio, you must understand that this is a NORMAL city, just like any other in the civilized world. Almost 100% of the tourist attractions are in the south zone of the city, which is totally safe. And that is the same with NY ou Paris. The tourist parts of those cities aren't in the poorest zones, so relax and just enjoy one of the most beaultiful places on earth!
I am from the Southside of chicago and I am use to the struggles you guys named even worse murders on the regular and seeing dead bodies and poverty so I am not to worried I know how to use sense we have 50 shootings per day here sadly it's the norm unfortunately

Im flying for the first time from Amsterdam to Rio for 8 days, will be on my own. Pretty exited but can’t wait to do it😊
Enjoy your trip ☺️
How was it?
high quality video, well done my friends
Thanks a lot, really appreciate it🥰
Thanks for sharing and really enjoyed the video.
Thank you for your comment☺️❤️
Thank you for the video and all the amazing information
Thank you for your comment☺️❤️
Amazing video guys 👏👏👏👏
Thank you☺️❤️
Leaving in November for Rio. Ty for this video.
I am Carioca and born in Rio de Janeiro. You are welcome.
I loved you vídeo.
Thank you ☺️
Myself and my partner are going on Paddy's Day, I'm Irish, she's Brazillian and this video really put our minds at ease, how do you navigate the language barrier or are you both fluent in Portuguese?
Great content! You're such likeable people
Thank you 💚
Great vídeo! Abraço from Manaus -Amazonas, North of Brazil! 🇧🇷
Thank you! We will go there one day for sure!
Very beautiful and informative video for our plans to visit in 2025. Thank you.
Thanks, enjoy your travels ☺️🙌🏻
Thanks for your insights!
Thanks for commenting & sharing your perspective! We’ll have to take the train next time! 😅
Crime rate here is NOT as far as Chicago, Paris or L.A. ... But there's an international net amplifying bad news about Rio in past 30 years... ( By the way São Paulo crime rate is waaay worst than Rio nowadays) . Rio is wonderfull and Its people also ! 😉😉👍👍
Yes, our idea was to show how misleading the information online is! Love Rio!
Enjoy Rio... 😌✌🏻 It's a wonderful place and you won't find a "carioca" ( Brazilian from Rio) who is not carying or helpfull...😌😌✌🏻
That’s sooo true! Thanks a lot!
I'm curious about that RJ versus SP thing, where did you get numbers to back that up? Because I did a quick search here and found quite the opposite.
Rio de Janeiro é bem mais perigoso que São Paulo
That is so beautiful and awesome. Love it!
Thank you☺️
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I'm 'carioca', I love my city! I had already been in NYC, Paris, London, Buenos Aires, Montevideo... And I don't change it for any other citiy in the world.
One more time, I say THANK YOU for this video. ❤
Thank you very much for your comment😍☺️❤️
If you've been to all thos cities you saw how much safer vthey are in comparison to Rio! Even here in Brazil São Paulo and the whole South are much safer than Rio! Much safer indded than dangerous and violent Rio!
Very nice video btw, thanks!
Thank you😊
Welcome in my City and enjoy!
Thanks a lot, we loved it😍
I’m looking at going mid April in 2025. I’m glad I came across this video because all I’ve ever heard is horror stories/scaremongering. Thank you for the advice on this video it’s been invaluable.
Thank you for your comment, enjoy your travels ☺️💚
Great camera work!
Thanks a lot😍
Amazing video. 🇧🇷🥰💛
Thanks a lot☺️❤️
When I was in Rio as a young man in 77, I walked from Botafogo all the way up to the Christ Statue, I walked the last bit because the funicular railway was broken down at the time and I chose not to take a taxi. Even then the city was not particularly safe, but personally I had no troubles.
Feel always welcome to visit this amazing city I proudly call hometown.
Thank you 😊
Amazing footage. Some channels don't use good cameras while in Brazil (due to safety reasons) and the videos here gets kinda low quality. But yours is really good
Thank you very much! We were scared to use ours at the beginning as well😅
@@SomethingToRemember I understand. Also, this transition here is flawless 04:03
Thanks☺️
For anyone considering going to Christ the Redeemer, I found the Cog Train up/down pretty easy. Great views!Make sure you sit on the right side going up, and the left side going down
Thanks for the info!
so beautiful
Rio is indeed an amazing city😻
14k views.. 加油. Fair play! As always a class video.
Thanks a lot, Paul🥰❤️
I traveled to Rio many times as a woman by myself even, and my safety was never ever compromised, I would even stay out to early mornings on the beach and nothing bad ever happened in fact people where Extremely friendly and warm and helpful
Thanks for sharing! ☺️🇧🇷
Cool guys. Looks amazing.
Thanks a lot❤️😍
Planning to visit Rio next year and tips help a lot. How many days would you recommend spending in Rio?
Great to hear 😊 We spent a week there & thought it was the perfect amount of time to do/see everything! You will love Rio, amazing city 🇧🇷
Thanks for sharing. Loved your insights. Would you recommend a tour company?
Thank you for your comment☺️what tour company? I shared the company we did hang gliding with in the description box😊
Absolutely loved the fact that you decided not to show the everyday struggle of the not so well do. I hate vloggers who decide to do that in my own country India. ❤
Ah thank you for your comment ☺️
Rio is an indescribable City💖
❤️
Couldn't agree more
Muito lindo o Rio de janeiro show
Obrigada🥰
Love this video
Thank you☺️
I’ve been to rio lots. I love it. My mum is from there. I never had any problems. I just don’t wear rich stuff walking around. I try to blend in.
Thanks for the insight 😊
@@SomethingToRemember also. The locals don’t stop at red traffic lights at night. That’s the done thing. So that you can’t get car-jacked.
Next time, try going to the Lakes Region.
Bye!!
Great video!!!! I am going to Rio in August! Which company did you use for hang gliding?
Thanks a lot! There is their phone number in the description box☺️ Enjoy your travels😍
@@SomethingToRemember sorry I overlooked that! Thank you and safe travels to you too!
Awesome video Asya! Big up! Cheers from Nanning :)
Thanks a lot😍🥰
Great video thank 😊
Thank you for your comment 😊
Most places on earth are safe to travel to, IF you travel for the right reasons. Thanks for the video.
She’s not😅 thank you very much☺️
Fantastic video! May I ask, did you have to get a permit to fly your drone?
Thank you! We didn’t register it in Brazil😊
Awesome video!👍
Thanks☺️
O Brasil é lindo! Vale conhecer!
Sure is! 🇧🇷💚
We agree! We loved Sugar Loaf 😊
Gonna be visiting here for the first time in April, from Colorado 😁
Hi guys, thanks for the cool video. Since you have a lot of drone footage in the video I have to ask: any recommendations on where to launch and where not to launch?
Thank you ☺️ avoid flying above favelas and at night 😊
Great video. ❤🔥
Thanks, appreciate your comment🥰
THANKS A LOT!
Cheers☺️
Madness😅 we are from Europe, we are not as used to it😂
@@SomethingToRemember it's all about learning from people who are from that background see when you grow up in that kind of environment like myself is how I know how to move when I travel see in the hood you got to know what to do to not to be seen when we carry cash we put it in our socks so we don't be a target and dress like we don't have weath
Well, that’s what we talked about, no?😅
When I heard Chicago had it worse than São Paulo I scoffed but apparently it's true!
@@Rasfa it is true even rio softer than chicago we had 600 murders in chicago this year
Thanks for your recommandation :)
Did you stay in a hotel or airbnb ? 😅
Thank you! An airbnb☺️
Crime can happen anywhere. Even a trip to your own mailbox could be dangerous. Live more, worry less. Just stay alert. I look forward to this trip.
Enjoy 💚
When you do the hang gliding, do they provide you the footage after or it was your own selfie stick? If it’s already there, is it extra to have it?
They give you footage from one GoPro and can buy extra from Insta 360 😊
@@SomethingToRemember Wow thank you so much for the quick response!! Flying to Rio tomorrow and planning to do the hanglide during my trip!! Great video thank you again!! ☀️ 😁
Oh that’s great you’ll love it 😊 Just make sure when you are booking it that you are paying for a package that includes receiving the GoPro footage.. There might be cheaper options that you don’t get the video so make sure 👍🏻
as anywhere in the world you have to go and see with your own eyes, instead of staying in your comfortable bubble learning from the television.
Indeed!
Sorry if I missed this in the video but what’s the best way to exchange cash?
I’m sure there are exchange places, but we didn’t use any.. it could be a good idea as cash withdrawals are quite pricy
Thank you!
I find these videos interesting especially living in the US have you seen our news and yet folks still come here non stop ijs We literally have a shooting every month
Yes, I think everyone is aware of the gun-problem in the US… People still choose to go but it’s definitely not as appealing as it used to be in my opinion! Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
can you say something about night hang out in rio?
Hi! To be honest, we didn’t go out late at night in Rio just because we didn’t feel like partying… We wanted to be up early every day exploring 😅
amazing view
It is❤️
